Damn. That's a shame.

Mecca 01-17-2020 03:34 PM

Guess that would explain that quick sell.

Yeah. I can imagine that his heirs didn't want to run the team collectively like the Hunt siblings. Instead, they probably wanted to cash out and split the $$$.

This was likely accomplished as a limited partnership, with the cash held there. With limited partnerships, when one partner dies it dissolves the partnership without creating a tax impact.

That's how sports teams get passed without triggering massive estate taxes.

RollChiefsRoll 01-17-2020 03:40 PM

Sad. Thanks for the memories, Mr. Glass. 2015 was amazing.

TLO 01-17-2020 03:41 PM

ChiTown 01-17-2020 03:45 PM

Sad. RIP Mr Glass. Your leadership was instrumental in 14 and 15. You will be missed.

Dartgod 01-17-2020 03:48 PM

He caught a lot of heat early in his ownership, deservedly so. But much respect for finally becoming an owner that gave a shit and allowed Moore to build a competitive team.

Thanks for 2014-2015 and RIP Mr. Glass.

Sure-Oz 01-17-2020 03:49 PM

Glad he sold the team and to make sure it stayed in Kansas City.

RIP

Eleazar 01-17-2020 03:52 PM

Oh hell I didn't think about that. If that's truly the case, well done, David.

No matter what anybody says, nobody can take away 14 and 15. Those truly special sports moments in my life, really can't be overstated.

58-4ever 01-17-2020 03:57 PM

RIP Mr Glass... thank you for 2015 for sure.

RIP. Old boy was cheap but had a good heart. Well, not that good but you get my drift.

BigRedChief 01-17-2020 04:09 PM

We went to the Royals game the day he officially took control of the team. Had the ceremony out on the mound. Dignataries everywhere.

My wife had surgery on her ankle. We were able to use the office elevators. While we are waiting on the elevator, David Glass and his family join us in waiting for the elevator.

My son, about 3? is all decked out in Royals gear. Has a ball glove on. Mr. Glass leans down and asked how your doing young man, you going to play for the Royals when you grow up? My son without missing a beat says, no, I want to play for a good team like the Cardinals or Rockies. We were aghast.... apoligized, Most of his family thought it was funny.

We got home and when we told him that was his special day and he might have insulted him. My son decided to draw him a picture of the day and tell him he was sorry. We put the drawing and letter in the mail.

About 2 weeks later we got a note from David Glass himself. He wasnt insulted, his son grew up a Cardinal fan, he hopes one day that he will chose to be a Royals fan.

Still got pics of the drawing and the orginal note from David Glass.

MahiMike 01-17-2020 05:13 PM

The Royals never said anything official but it was speculated that was why the Glass family sold the team so fast last year.

wazu 01-17-2020 07:33 PM

A Kansas City Icon and hero. Thank you, David Glass, for what you did for my city.

Well done.

Pretty much. RIP DG

tk13 01-17-2020 08:31 PM

Yeah even with winning a World Series the most important thing he might have done ignore any other bidders because he wanted to make sure he sold the team to a local guy and leave the team was in a good place. We don't have to repeat the 6-7 years of limbo we had through the 90s. Even though the start of his tenure was rough he learned and adapted and it paid off.

ChiefsCountry 01-17-2020 09:09 PM

I'm watching the World Series DVD tonight. Crazy we get to experience all of those crazy feelings again come Sunday afternoon once again.

84 and having pneumonia? I think about 1/2 die that get pneumonia over 80. Or use to 25 years ago.

My uncle is 83 and is still in rehab after getting pneumonia 4 weeks ago...he was in ICU on a medically induced coma for 2 weeks and already was on oxygen prior to that. He's doing great and almost ready to come home. I was really worried he wouldn't make it. I feel he is very lucky, Very scary ordeal.

Unsmooth-Moment 01-18-2020 09:34 AM

RIP. Brought a ship and what we hope to be a good new ownership team. Thank you for what you did for KC!

gblowfish 01-18-2020 12:50 PM

Mr. Glass passing away is a very big deal. Hope they do something for him tomorrow in pregame ceremonies. He did OK for the city, and won the big one. Something the Chiefs haven't figured out in a very long time. Hopefully knock on wood, this will be the year we can put that demon to rest.

RickObie 01-18-2020 12:54 PM

RIP Mr. Glass - thanks for everything you did for our city.
