The Honey Badger, The Pass Rush, and The Rush D

Yes Patrick Mahomes and the offense are the driving force of this team, but holy shit, Tyrann Mathieu and the pass rushers on this team were huge in getting us this win today.

Mathieu is everybit as good as Eric Berry was in his prime. I was excited about the signing and he has exceeded my expectations. I never thought he'd be this good. He is such a huge role model for the young guys and is such a great leader of this D.

There was a huge difference between this year's AFCCG and last year's AFCCG. That difference was the pass rush. Last year we barely even touched Tom Brady and this year we sacked Tannehill 3 times (K. Pass 2 times and Frank Clark 1 time) and there were several times when Chris Jones was in his face. These guys got after Tannehill.

After being sucked off by the media for the last week Derrick Henry had his chance to do something I never thought possible and that was be a RB that led a team to a Super Bowl. The Chiefs D said eat my ass you over hyped piece of trash. The run D held the greatest player in the history of the world, a guy that some dipshit on national radio said he would take him in a draft over Patrick Mahomes (can't think of who the reerun was), to 69 yards on 19 carries for 3.6 ypc.

The Chiefs whipped that ass and finally brought the Lamar Hunt trophy to its home. Now we have one thing left to do this year and that is go to Miami and win the first of Patrick Mahomes' many Super Bowl's. I knew we were destined to go to the championship game this year, but it doesnt feel real. All these years of Super Bowl parties just to watch 2 teams I don't give a shit about and now I can finally watch my absolute favorite team in the world play in the biggest sporting event in the world.

I Love You All!!!

Basileus777 01-19-2020 06:11 PM

Veach ****ing did it. Most of his moves this offseason worked out. Clark, Mathieu, Thornhill, Pennel, and you can keep going.

Getting Spags has been so huge. With Sutton we were embarrassingly out-coached in the AFC championship. Now we actually have a defensive coaching staff that wins us games.

petegz28 01-19-2020 06:12 PM

Dude, this D balled out today. I know early it looked a bit timid and soft but whatever plans or adjustments Spags made worked. They took away Henry and made Tannehill beat us. And while he had a few good drives, he wasn't able to do so.

I'm so glad Clark either "Woke Up" or "Got it" Totally diff player from the beginning of the season. He deserves credit for turning it around.

smithandrew051 01-19-2020 06:14 PM

It’s crazy. Seems like everyone just conceded that Henry would go for 125+...and the Chiefs pretty much shut him down.

petegz28 01-19-2020 06:14 PM

Clark and Hb have played great but Dirty Dan has to be considered for playoff MVP on defense....

Wasn't he playing injured early in the season. A pinched nerve in the neck or something like iirc...

petegz28 01-19-2020 06:25 PM

When Sorenson leveled Tannehill you got the vibe that the message had been sent....it was over

I don't think Dirty Dan "The Mormon Missile" Sorenson has ever played better back to back games in his life. These two games could put him in the ROH.

Rausch 01-19-2020 06:27 PM

Matthew completely transformed this secondary. The entire defense looks different and he was ON FIRE this game. He was everywhere making plays...

That was solid.

I'm ok with the role he's playing now. As long as he isn't a deep safety after this year keep him...

Yes.

A few of us suspected that and nobody wanted to hear it. And now he's had something like 10 sacks in his last 8 games.

Mathieu and Clark brought the swagger this D had been missing.

Don't remember. Very possible. I just know he wasn't very good early on. Now his name comes up on D almost every 3rd play or so.

It's still a little weird to see the defense come out and play so much better after halftime. No defense in KC for the last twenty years has been able to do that.

(Yes. We've been that bad for that long.)

I was not a big fan of the Spags hire. I'm glad to have been wrong about that one. And they've probably got the best group of assistants in the NFL. I hope we don't lose too many of them this off-season.

DaFace 01-19-2020 06:34 PM

I may be buying a Mathieu jersey this week. He's my favorite defense player in a long time.

scho63 01-19-2020 06:34 PM

Dirty Dan has been tits three straight games.

I think Daly has had a huge impact as well. We've got 7 or 8 guys now playing out of their minds. It's not just KPass, it's the entire position group.

Honestly reminds me a lot of what the hoodie does...

We've had EVERYONE on our D line go down with injury at one point or another. Other than a rookie our line has been banged up all year and still playing solid.

We shut down Henry with two DE's on IR and two lineman playing injured...

jerryaldini 01-19-2020 06:44 PM

Sorenson also an impressive iso tackle on Henry with a full head of steam. Cut off at knees. HB and Clark came up big in the big games. Spags, love that guy

I've been considering doing the same. I had a DJ Johnson jersey (still hanging in my closet) that I got shortly after we drafted him.

It might be time for a new jersey to wear for the next 10 years.

Chris Meck 01-19-2020 09:09 PM

Honey Badger is my second favorite Chief.

I LOVE HONEY BADGER.

dlphg9 01-19-2020 09:17 PM

I wonder if the scheme Spags runs is the reason Honey Badger has been so elite. Spags lets him go out and play the way he wants to and do what he is best at. The way he plays is just so insane and I can't remember the last time I've seen a player run around the field like he does and just continually makes plays. Hell EB was my favorite player for several years, but TM had a better and bigger impact than EB ever did.

Honey Badger was hands down the best safety in the league this year and may have been the best defensive player in football. If he can continue to play at this level, then he will go down as one of the best FA signings in league history. He was special this year.

Man you are one petty little reerun. The Chiefs are going to the SB and you decided to track me down to say that? Im not even gonna argue with you because you never actually back up anything you say and you probably should get to bed, since you have school tomorrow and your mom tells me you're hard to wake up in the morning if you don't get your 10 hours of sleep.

BWillie 01-19-2020 09:29 PM

Just wait until next year. We'll have Thornhill back who is another CB as safety basically. We move in and out run stuffing personal for passing personnel based on the situation very seamlessly.

Some people were stupid enough to suggest that he sucked. The fact that Chief Fan often has trouble seeing the big picture comes as no surprise to anyone.

Walt White 01-19-2020 10:09 PM

Badger was everywhere today. The only thing really killing us was the penalties. If we can clean that up, I feel confident in our defense.

I feel like we have the cornerstone pieces and building blocks to grow an elite defense over the next few years.

Megatron96 01-19-2020 10:41 PM

Our defense is elite. There I said it. I can't believe that I'm saying it, but there it is.

Are they perfect? No, but tyhey are playing at the very highest level right now.

Holy ****ing shit, they held Derrick Henry to under 70 yards today, and did it very convincing fashion. In the second half, our defense stoned that guy. ****ing stoned him. 3 yards. 4 yards. ZERO yards. Incredible.

On every level our defense played really well. And Sorenson. Holy shit, we need to re-sign that SOB. How many huge plays did that SOB make? Pay that ****ing man, JFC.

The whole defense balled right the **** out, people. I can't list all the guys that made big plays. Google the ****ing depth chart; all those guys rocked it today. What a great game.

You're ****ing crazy! They shut down Henry. The 3 and out after we made it 17 -14 was huge. Then the way they held them the entire 2nd half.

This defense played their ass off today.

Add Ogbah, Fenton, and Okafor to that list. Ogbah and Okafor were making an impact before they got hurt. Almost every off-season move Veach made ended up paying off - especially on defense.

You guys are talking defense but don’t forget that Hardman scored 6 TDS, was 2nd in the league in YPC, and made the pro bowl as a returner.

Veach did everything right pretty much.

Exactly. The defense got the ball back after the offense sputtered late in the 2nd quarter, which led to the long scoring drive before the half. Then the offense failed to score on their first possession of the 3rd quarter but the defense stuffed the short run and got the ball right back.

That’s twice the defense bailed out the offense not the other way around.

That stop on the Titans first possession in the second half was such a huge stop. Clutch as ****

If you want to even call it that. We gave up a 6th round pick for a solid special teamer who provides quality depth. But I get that you're just saying even our worst is pretty good.

chiefzilla1501 01-20-2020 05:00 AM

Said this on another thread... Scott Van Pelt said Derrick Henry only got 1.73 yards after contact. That is absurdly good for that RB. Granted, a huge reason for our success was our offense played tremendous defense. Derrick Henry is 10 times better a RB in the second half and we completely took the ball out of his hands. But you look at the Chiefs earlier this week. Hitchens made specific comments about how to tackle Henry. Talked about tackling low, finishing tackles. These guys were tremendously coached on tackling this week. So well that guys like Frank Clark were so confident that they could mouth off and get away with it. They knew they were going to stop Derrick Henry. And they did.

He's not even really a safety; he's a DB.

He plays slot. He plays box. He plays deep sometimes. He can be anywhere at any time.

He's like the 'falcon' of defensive backs. Only it works, that 'falcon' shit Gunther tried with DT didn't really work that well.

JohnnyHammersticks 01-20-2020 09:38 AM

Love the way HB (Frank Clark too) has bought into the history of the Chiefs franchise. Seemed to genuinely understand the historical implications of the game and want this win for the Hunt family and our fans.

In addition to absolutely plying his butt off the second half of the season, he seems like a likeable dude. Easy guy to root for, like Mahomes. Like a lot of guys on our team this season actually.

Dunerdr 01-20-2020 09:52 AM
