Chiefs All-Decade Team - Quarterbacks
 

With the end of the decade, it's time for us to select our all-decade team for the 2010s. Credit to Direckshun for the idea; I'm just implementing it.

Here are the rules:

1. I'll put up lists of position groups one at a time.

2. Each list will contain guys who had at least one notable stat line in their career. I'll generally put them in descending order of some key stat.

3. The stats will contain ONLY their body of work between 2010 and 2019 for the Chiefs. No pre-2010 stats and no stats for other teams.

4. The number of roster spots will be the same as the number of roster spots on the 2019 Super Bowl roster for the Chiefs.

5. You can use whatever criteria you want to select the team. It can be total stats for the decade, it can be dominance in a shorter period, it can be playmakers who didn't screw up badly, whatever. It's your call. Feel free to use any criteria not listed in your decision. For example, if you know that Terrance Copper was an amazing blocker, you can build that into your decision.

6. In a subsequent poll we will determine which players are the starters on the all-decade team. In the first round, you're just going to fill the 53-man roster.

Our next position group is quarterbacks. THREE quarterbacks.will make the all-decade team. So pick THREE quarterbacks.

Note: I'm only including quarterbacks who recorded yardage in an actual NFL game.

The only problem is, the poll stipulates from 2010 to Present. So...

How many people knew that Brady Quinn was our fourth-leading passer in the 2010s in terms of yardage? And Palko was fifth? I didn't remember those two guys getting 12 starts between them.

I forgot to check the three times for Mahomes option. Oversight on my part.

The race for #3 should be interesting. I had to go with Big Dick Nick, but admittedly that's driven largely by his post-Chiefs performance.

Only poll so far where I didn’t vote for the max. It’s in tribute to Mahomes that he receive the only vote.

If I did vote the traditional max, Alex Smith and Matt Moore are the next most deserving to round out the position.

But if I could vote for Mahomes all three times, I most certainly would have.

I voted for Mahomes and Smith. I wouldn't waste a roster spot for any of the others (based solely on their contributions to the Chiefs).

Just don't run any quarterback sneaks and you should be fine.

Except that got us a year of Crennel.

Though, taking the long view, Crennel got himself and Pioli fired, which got us Andy, which got us Mahomes who got a Super Bowl win. So it all worked out.

But still - **** Romeo. That was a brutal season.

I voted for him as the 3rd because while he wasn't very good, it was not his fault he was in that position. It's not his fault he was handed the job for that long without competition. He didnt try to be bad; he did the best he could. And there was nobody else but him that did anything more than hold a clipboard save for a spot start or two. So it's not like anyone else was worthy or overly deserving.

Although, to be fair, you could argue that 2010-2019 Len Dawson probably would’ve still been better than most of the QB’s eligible on this poll.

I don't see Tyler Bray name up there. He made Patrick Mahomes II beat the Broncos twice in one game.

Eh, that's not a bad thing. The Patriots wouldn't have anyone but Brady. Teams that have a lot of QBs to debate have gone through some major adversity.

Good point. He did get game action. But he didn't record any passing yards, which is what I used for eligibility.

If you wish to vote for Tyler Bray, who facilitated Patrick Mahomes' first comeback win, you'll need to do it as a write-in.

Maybe they feel that one Super Bowl win and one MVP in three seasons isn't enough.

Which is why they voted for someone like Brady Quinn or Tyler Palko instead. That makes sense.

He went 2-1 overall, and saved Romeo’s job by knocking off the undefeated Packers that year.

I went Orton over Moore but now I’m regretting it. My reason had been that at one point I had some small hope Kyle could just be our starter. But Moore got us through a tough Vikings game that we needed for the 2 seed. Sorry, Matt. Won’t happen again.

I put Alex because he pulled us out of the shit puddle we were in. But damn...it's amazing to think that he has 76 starts and 102 TD's...and Mahomes has only 31 with 76 TD's...one for every game Alex started...and basically one more season and a half for Mahomes and he'll eclipse Alex easily...in probably what, 55 starts...

...and Alex was good. This guy is other worldly!

Mahomes averaging 2.5 tds per game. Alex was at 1.3. He'll pass him in tds by game 10.
