You've taken care of the DeBerg thing, right?

TrebMaxx 03-23-2020 06:25 PM

Today was my last day at the office. Will be working remotely for who knows how long.

Yup. I'm also one of those essential workers.

Abba-Dabba 03-23-2020 06:33 PM

Still working remotely. My company is unlikely to shut down since most of us are remote and the company was already headed towards closing down offices on a permanent basis.

Going into work a couple days a week still, but mostly working remotely from home. It sucks. I’m going stir crazy being at home so much. Just want to go back to the normal work routine.

Stryker 03-23-2020 06:56 PM

As an IT person working for a hospital we are hands on and boots on the ground. Our facility takes screening precautions so I feel confident in performing my duties each day with confidence.

SuperBowl4 03-23-2020 07:00 PM

I haven't worked at a job in years. Got sick of being in traffic and part of the rat race.

TLO 03-23-2020 07:02 PM

I'm also quite pleasantly surprised with the poll results.

Dunit35 03-23-2020 07:05 PM

Local police officer. I should be safe. Hopefully my side bank security job stays secure.

As far as my police gig. We’ve been told to arrest for domestics, DUI’s, felonies, and high bond felony warrants. Leave the misdemeanor drug and warrants alone. Don’t go into peoples houses unless needed. Basically limit interactions with civilians. I know my traffic stops have all but stopped.

I'm actually doing pretty good. Turns out I kind of enjoy cruising YouTube, while taking an online class, and punching out some code all in one sitting.

I'm either a great multitasker or have ADD.

That would suck to pull someone over and get sneezed on.

I'm currently working on a package for CBS Sports this Fall, but who knows if we'll even have sports this Fall?

I'm also working on music for TMZ but that's open-ended, meaning I can do that anytime.

Graystoke 03-23-2020 08:10 PM

Essential employee at work site. Busy as ever. Figuring out the logistics of keeping employees safe and mitigating our, and their risk by spreading them out into shift work. About 20% of staff were set up for remote work early last week.

PurpleRiders51 03-23-2020 08:12 PM

Yeah, it's stupid. The government doesn't want people traveling, but they keep hotels open. Like WTF, my wife & I are both essential employee & both of us have cancer which means our immune systems are shit. She's suppose to be getting a masectomy on the 30th, we both shouldn't be exposing ourselves to possible sick people. But if the mother****ers don't close the doors, we don't get paid if we don't show up.

Archie Bunker 03-23-2020 08:22 PM

I’m a service manager at a tractor dealership so we’re all hands on deck till told otherwise. Not really a job we can do from home and or shut down very easily since farming is pretty essential to keeping the country going.

We’ve implemented as many safety measures as we can so far around the dealership. Employees do have the option to stay home if they feel it’s in their best interest. Anyone who has left the state or shows any symptoms gets a paid 14 day leave.

That would be a nice option to have, we don't have to come without worry of punishment. But neither of us would be paid.

hometeam 03-23-2020 08:38 PM

Still selling cars. Usually March is gangbusters, its definitely down in business, but we are still making some car deals. We are putting up enough profit to keep the doors open, but not sure how long it will last unless something else breaks loose.

I have been working from home for the past 4 or 5 years. I love it. (I don't even have to put on pants most of the time)

Luckily, I only assign and revoke access, to Humana's various systems, and I am not too customer forward. I occasionally have to take a call, but the lions share of my work comes in via a ticketing system.

Dunerdr 03-24-2020 06:03 AM

Yes, im a sub contracted electrician for the largest search engine/ data storage company. They arent shutting this bitch down unless everyone has it. We have a plan to send 4-6 guys home to self quarantine, while the rest of our 14 guys keep at it. And if someone gets sick the guys on the bench step in. The client has a worst case scenario plan where the sight goes on lock down for 20-30 days, and a team stays on sight 24/7 no one in or out.

I create automated fraud analytics as a consultant. So hoping for an uptick as panicked people working from home watching their 401Ks crater make dumb decisions.

Dallas Chief 03-24-2020 06:22 AM

I’m in the laboratory business and we’ve been working to quickly add equipment to our fleet to support the testing efforts. Very challenging to find the proper instrumentation right now. It’s been extremely frustrating. What’s not being talked about, however, is a serology test for the virus that is about to become available that will provide a + or - result within 15 minutes. I’m talking about millions of these finger prick tests being available by the end of next week. Still working to see what we can do to help get that rolled out as well.

backinblack 03-24-2020 06:31 AM

Yep, work desktop support for Navy trouble tickets, so as long as they keeping ****ing shit up I’ll probably remain here. I have the capability to work from home but my boss doesn’t really want us to, unless we are sick in which case stay the hell home. I don’t work too close to other people, there’s a few other co workers around but they are well over 6 feet away. Going into the office isn’t so bad, it’s one thing that’s still normal in this weird world we are in now, plus the traffic is great.

JohnnyHammersticks 03-24-2020 06:48 AM

I trade stocks for a living from my house. I'll be working until they unplug the stock market machines, which I estimate will happen next week.

I am on Spring Break. Hoping they close schools to face to face until the end of the year.

My wife and company has been deemed essential. They make plastics, chip trays, fluid and air filters. Have places around the world. But some factories are having issues getting people to come to work. The China factory is at 90%.

tatorhog 03-24-2020 08:04 AM

I'm IT at a mid sized bank. We've split our team up and half in one week while the others are remote, and vice versa the following week. All lobbies have been shuttered so there isn't any foot traffic aside from a few "by appointment" cases.

Not sure how long all of this will go on for, but I think our jobs should all be safe. Unless the markets totally crater and a bunch of worst case scenarios happen in succession.

My wife is a HS teacher, and the hoops she's expected to jump through until the end of the term is asinine. Students are told that no work done from this point on will hurt their grade, it can only improve it. So she has to do all of these lesson plans for a bunch of kids that wouldn't have put much effort in during a normal day. So a bunch of homework when it won't affect your grade? Yeah, those kids are going to buckle down and get serious instead of sitting on the couch in front of their Xstation or Playbox. They also have a lot of other duties they expect her to do. All while being promised that they will still get paid. That promise coming from this SI doesn't invoke a lot of warm fuzzies, so fingers crossed.

why the hell would any school district claim to do that???

I have done some online teaching for weather days and days I am absent. It works, but also is not the same as being there. No one can expect that. Admin should understand that.

If kids are not doing it at school, they will not do it at home. And I will not have to deal with their BS every day.

ChiefBlueCFC 03-24-2020 08:12 AM

Go into work everyday, but have the ability to work remotely. Boss won't let us because he doesn't think we will work lmao okay buddy...

ChiTown 03-24-2020 08:14 AM

Yep - still going to my office (office of 1). My building on my floor has emptied out. The floor above me is all OBGYN Docs, so they are still going strong.

My business is in flux. We are presently about 30% down, and I suspect we'll be 50% down within the next week or two. After that, my crystal ball is pretty fuzzy. We are prepared to go to zero, and have cash reserves to get us through Q1 '21. It would basically zap up all profits from 2019, but that's just life.

I wish everyone here all the best in keeping gainful employment, but most of all, I wish you all continued health during this shitty little period in our history.

I'm a paralegal in a law firm that doesn't do litigation. The phone is hardly ringing, and my boss is doing next to nothing. If they're going to pay me to do nothing here, they could pay me to do nothing at home. At least I could get some stuff done around there. However, the other attorney (the main partner) thinks that this whole thing is a hoax, so he will not shut down unless mandated to do so, and he'll gripe the whole time.

mililo4cpa 03-24-2020 08:45 AM

I'm working every day, but until today, it's been at the office....we are rotating in / out office days starting this week...why rotate? I have no idea, other than my boss is old school and doesn't believe in work from home....probably testing the concept of work from home because very likely we will have to shutter our office for a couple weeks eventually

He's the king of hypocrisy.

Last week, when Missouri's numbers were around 14, he kept telling people on the phone that, even if that were true, it's only "1 in 750,000" people (actually, uh, that's 1 in 440,714 people). Two days later, he's still saying the same BS to clients. I informed him when he got off the phone, that he may want to update his figures, since it was then 1 in 221,000. "oh, well, that means I'd need to come into contact with one person in Springfield." Yeah, if only one person around here had it. He then does the flu comparison.

This is the same man who bitches about everybody who acts like they know something about law.

CaliforniaChief 03-24-2020 08:59 AM

Yeah, my wife teaches first grade, and she has to provide lesson plans and materials and once a week a video explaining how to do it. She also has to call each student once a week. Apparently no recourse if the kid doesn't do a damn thing. The parents that were going to work with their kids and get things going are going to do it. The ones that aren't, still aren't.

Apparently the school is still providing sack lunches. I'm not sure how that's going work infection-wise, but apparently that's the plan.
