We know.

Sammy and Chris have it all.

Things will change. And we were never going to be big shoppers in free agency. We are still Super Bowl Champs!

ToxSocks 03-24-2020 10:55 AM

Well said. Doesn't matter, won Superbowl.

(Looks at Lombardi Trophy.) It was worth it.

Work the phones, Burt Veach.

InChiefsHeaven 03-24-2020 11:59 AM

God, how much would it suck for Veach if we hadn't won the Super Bowl...

See the Rams. It's all worth it since we won, but I hope we can do it again. I'm personally in favor of possibly taking a step back and reloading for more long term continuity, but it's clear that's not Veach's plan. So we'll see how it goes. Again, at least we won it all this year. Anything else is gravy for a while.

Rasputin 03-24-2020 12:26 PM

Yeah and we are also picking last in each round of the draft :cuss:

****ing Veach

Hog's Gone Fishin 03-24-2020 12:36 PM

As long as Mahomes is our QB we'll have legit shots at the trophy every year. We should have 2 in a row already.

I still hate Dee Ford!

What picking last in the draft every year sounds like fun to you? Veach has got to go we won't ever get the top pick in the draft again with him here!

Red Dawg 03-24-2020 12:56 PM

We have ruined our draft status and our cap for the moment but we got the damn Lombardi. Was it worth it?

HELL YES!

Red Dawg 03-24-2020 12:57 PM

With that being said. It does suck to have no money.

What more long term continuity do we need? We have the best young qb, a young stud widout, a stud but aging tight end, a stud pass rusher locked up, quality tackles for atleast a season or two. Besides maybe a top tier type corner, were pretty serviceable across the board for awhile save role player types.

MahiMike 03-24-2020 01:08 PM

And THAT folks is how you win championships...

I agree.

And we'll still have Mahomes who elevates the people around him just in case we need to deal with less talent.

I know it isn't my place to judge, but I cringe when I see team logos or sports related tattoos on non pro athletes. I know I shouldn't care.

And Mahomes is only getting better for the next decade! Then he plateaus for 5 years, then slowly falling off until he retires at 45.

Taking a step back and reloading? What does that even mean? You mean like last year when we replaced over half of our defensive starters and all of our defensive coaching staff and won the Super Bowl?

We have Patrick Mahomes. I don't think you know what this means. That means as long as we don't hire Bill O'Brien to make personnel decisions, this team is going to be in the hunt for the Super Bowl every ****ing season. We won't win it every year, but we will be making noise.

Hell, that's basically what we did when Alex Smtih was our QB for 5 seasons. Remember how we made the playoffs 4 out of 5 seasons and won two divisions with Alex Smith, even though we had to go through some unfortunate roster cuts and were kind of cash-strapped a couple of those years?

Take that average ho-hum Alex Smith playoffs year and multiply it by a factor of Patrick Mahomes. That's the new norm for our seasons. Also consider that we're moving from Old Man Werthers to Spags and his staff.

If you have ANY pessimism or worries whatsoever about the Chiefs chances for the next 10 years, you're a ****ing idiot. I mean ANY. I don't care what it's about. Cap, coaching departures, team unity, drafting... all of it. **** man... we even got the hard part out of the way-- we changed the culture of this team from being one that never gets over the hump to one that wins championships. Enjoy the ****ing ride or shut the **** up.

Heh, I just noticed how stoic Frank Clark's daughter (guessing it's his daughter) looks to be sitting on her Dad's shoulders in the middle of a Super Bowl winning evening celebration.

Must have been a long day.

FloridaMan88 03-24-2020 01:36 PM

The Faketriots have the second least amount of salary cap space and their current QB depth chart is Brian Hoyer, Jarrett Stidham, and Cody Kessler.

Just gotta draft well

scho63 03-24-2020 02:03 PM

Eric Berry, Justin Houston, Dee Ford still costing us

Concur. I even made some lame response to the guy about hopefully he won’t have to wait another 50 years to fill in the “sleeve.”

Berry is still costing us, but I don't think Houston is. Dee Ford surely can't because he was under the franchise tag when we traded him.

oldman 03-24-2020 04:07 PM

Just a thought. I see LDT is another cut candidate. If that happens, does he look for another team or does he just take the guaranteed cash and become a full time Dr.?

Mile High Mania 03-24-2020 04:12 PM

How does Watkins carry 21M in cap ... that's crazy.

$38M total between him and Watkins.

Because he was never gonna see the third year

TomBarndtsTwin 03-24-2020 04:23 PM

His salary (14 mil.) plus 1/3 of 21 mil. signing bonus. (7 mil.) There’s the cap hit.

Jones is franchised tagged at $16.5 mil. so there’s your $37.5 mil. right there.

Chiefs will either re-do Sammy’s deal with an extension or cut him.

Jones will get traded or a long term deal with a low first year base. Those two moves will free up a significant amount of cap space for KC. It’s just a matter of how long it takes those 2 things to get done. I can’t imagine they will let it linger past the draft.

Also, it’s pretty much a given at this point that nothing is being done with Mahomes contract until next season, which Veach and his agent originally put a 12-18 month timeline on it when discussing it before the Super Bowl. I mean, they could do something on it, but I would be surprised at this point . . . . .

Good summary.

I believe the Watkins situation is resolved first. If KC wants to make more free agent moves, including retention of their own players, I anticipate a Watkins extension or release, and relatively soon.

Wait until the draft with no cap room and we risk losing important depth pieces like Pennel and Breeland.

BoxWine_Stouffers_TubeSock 03-25-2020 01:42 AM

We almost made it to SB 53 with one of the worst defences ever. As long as Mahomes is leading us we are legendary.

Pennel is staying.

I wonder what Breeland is asking for. He is worth bringing back at the right price. 6-8m per or less for a 3 year deal.
