A little odd. Camp arm is what I would say...

if there was going to be a camp

Archie Bunker 05-03-2020 10:53 AM

More potential than Shurmur, but definitely a camp arm.

Sassy Squatch 05-03-2020 10:58 AM

Man, I hate this pickup. We had to get rid of Kyle Shurmur, who's pretty damn good at holding a clipboard and has starter upside if he ever develops any actual skill at being a Quarterback. He's also super young and helped us win a Super Bowl.

keg in kc 05-03-2020 10:59 AM

He probably couldn't have signed in a better spot. He's clearly not in competition to start, which I think he needs from an attitude standpoint, but the system here fits what he can do as a quarterback. No, he doesn't have anything close to Mahomes' arm strength, but neither did Matt Moore. If Patterson can get conditioned to the reality that he's a backup in the NFL, he could be valuable a few years down the road should there be another situation where we need somebody to step in for a game or two.

That's assuming this is more real than the story about the Giants signing him...

FloridaMan88 05-03-2020 11:53 AM

Didn’t Patterson transfer to Michigan to supposedly receive the benefits of playing under alleged “QB Guru” Jim Harbaugh?

So much for that plan... an UDFA with minimal interest from the NFL.

I know the chiefs like a vet back up but I’m really hoping Ta’amu shows something and could be the #2 in 2021.

DaneMcCloud 05-03-2020 01:13 PM

The Chiefs currently have 90 roster spots to fill, with four of them previously taken by Mahomes, Henne, Jordan Ta'amu and Kyle Schurmur.

I don't see anything odd about this signing, especially considering the Chiefs signed a 35 year old retired QB off the streets due to injuries to Henne and Mahomes.

With roster size increased from 53 to 55 and the Practice Squad increasing from 10 to 12, it's a good idea to have at least one, if not two extra QB's available and learning the system, especially after cutting Schurmer.

BWillie 05-03-2020 01:16 PM

I've watched this guy 5 or 6 times and he looked terrible. Like not even an NFL caliber QB.

I could give two shits.

That said, some year I wouldn't mind drafting a backup just so its cheap for four year.

I haven't read the entire thread (my bad, I know), but I'd just like to say, "Who?"

I'd also like to add that, if I were an undrafted QB (or any QB, for that matter), I would love to come to the Chiefs and learn from Whisperer Wally himself. It would look damn good on the CV.

He was saying that previously we had four roster spots held by quarterbacks. We still do and thus are consistent with previous roster ratios.

TwistedChief 05-04-2020 05:31 AM

I’m so done with this team signing unnecessary UDFAs who aren’t even going to make our Super Bowl champion roster. This really ruined my day.

Next thing you know, Andy Reid will order a ****ing salad and really put the dagger in our dreams of a repeat.

ChiTown 05-04-2020 06:20 AM

People are concerned by this? lol

I hate the offseason, but it’s even more intolerable without baseball.

Mecca 05-04-2020 06:26 AM

Uh yea who cares? Guys like Patterson even if they were blah in college tend to get team invites this time of year because he was a 5 star recruit once upon a time.

That's unbelievable.

I suspect he's out of runway at this point, though. I believe he's exhausted his practice squad eligibility so I can't imagine him actually sticking with an organization anymore.

But still - guy has been cashing paychecks from NFL teams for 7 years now and has been on a gameday roster twice in that whole period. He's taken a TOTAL of 4 NFL snaps.

I didn't realize that took effect immediately. I thought that happened when they added the regular season game to the schedule. So we actually get a 55 man roster this year?

Reminds me of his rookie year quote.

"Why did you choose to sign with the Chiefs?"

Bray: "Andy Reid gets QB's paid".

Yes, roster sizes increase from 53 to 55 this season while the Practice Squad increases from 10 to 12 players.

In 2020, the NFL expanded the playoffs from 6 teams to 7.

Only the Top Seed (#1) receives a Bye week, the rest have to play their way to the Super Bowl.

The 17 game season doesn't begin until 2021 at the earliest.

Practice Squad eligibility has changed with new CBA: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/n...alary-changes/

Practice squads expanded from 10 to 12 players in 2020-2021, then to 14 players starting in 2022 (including between two and four players with unlimited accrued seasons per team)

Tyler Bray has never known a single season of his entire NFL career in which Matt Nagy was not on the coaching staff.

I don't know if it's blackmail or a secret gay relationship. But it's clearly one of those two. That's the only logical explanation.

Worthless TC arm

Easy 6 05-04-2020 03:44 PM

Nothing not to like about this signing, this guy has credible career backup written all over him

10th rated QB this year according to my draft guide...

“Twitchy, athletic and creative, Patterson proved capable of making plays in and out of structure at the collegiate level. He has a bigger arm than you’d expect, with enough zip to test tight windows and the ability to connect over the top of a defense. Has a quick release and does a nice job of staying ready to throw when moving within the pocket. He’s enough of a running threat to make plays when he escapes the pocket and in the zone read game”

Sounds like perfect competition for Ta’amu if you ask me

Groves 05-04-2020 04:40 PM

It’s OUR turn to send Cassels throughout the league. Let the Chiefsification begin!

Ah, ok. I had the playoff restructuring right this year, but I wasn’t aware of the roster increase this year. That’s kinda cool. Side note, a local kid has a little better chance of making the Cincy PS with that increase.
