Derrick Henry may be a free agent

Sassy Squatch 07-14-2020 10:47 AM

If I'm Henry I'm just going down at first contact from now on. That offense ran through him for the second half of the season and they ended up in the AFCCG game, and this is how they thank him.

Third Eye 07-14-2020 10:47 AM

“Derrick Henry may be a free agent next year” seems like a better thread title.

Sassy Squatch 07-14-2020 10:52 AM

Seriously. 67 touches for 405 yards and 2 TDs against the Patriots and Ravens in the playoffs. Poor bastard just ran out of steam by the time he got to Arrowhead and so did any chance the Titans had.

Mr_Tomahawk 07-14-2020 11:04 AM

It was a good story last year.

But ours was better.

Pass.

Hog's Gone Fishin 07-14-2020 11:05 AM

Henry wants to be a Chief so he don't ever have to face Dirty Dan Sorenson again.

My thoughts exactly.

I read the thread title and assumed I was going to read an article about how the Titans we rescinding the tag, and Henry would be signing with the Chiefs for league minimum. :D

You shouldn’t pay him for what he did, you should pay him for what he’s going to do. I don’t think his playing style translates to a long career.

The plus side is, he doesn’t have a lot of carries since he shared the load his first few years.

Tough spot for the Titans. Their offense revolves around him
And Tannehill isn’t the type who can carry you thru by himself.

Glad the Chiefs aren’t that type of team anymore.

Well they gave the big contract to Tannehill.

Exactly. I see him as a Larry Johnson type, where he will hit a wall and hit it quickly.

KC_Connection 07-14-2020 01:35 PM

He'll be broken down within a year or two with his playing style. I hope for his sake he gets his next year.

FloridaMan88 07-14-2020 02:08 PM

The problem with committing to a game manager QB like Tannehill is that they are forced to either pay Henry or somehow find an equally productive running game.

Earl Campbell agrees...

MatriculatingHank 07-14-2020 07:58 PM

I had the unfortunate experience of watching him slice and dice the Chiefs defense in Nashville last November.
That was a game we should not have lost!

He took a hit from Dirty Dan (on maybe his longest gain of the game) and never seemed quite the same after that.

suzzer99 07-14-2020 11:04 PM

I love how we kept Dirty Dan after he made the only stellar play on defense from the AFCCG against the Pats - and then he came through all over the place the next postseason.

I have a theory that smart teams know how to hold on to guys like that who step up their game in the postseason. We weren't always that smart team.

Guess we'll see what contract numbers are. If it's reasonable at all I would say Henry on the Titans is a very good match. They have a system built around his skill set and I think they would struggle to replace what he does with another RB.

Compared to Zeke and Gurley's deals, this is solid. Especially since Henry has shown to be the rare RB who can still take over a game in this era. We'll see how long he can continue to do that. Good deal for the Titans.

Not bad for either side, really. Henry recognizes the market and value of RBs but still gets paid. He's betting on himself to be able to get one more big payday in 3 or 4 years.

Red Dawg 07-15-2020 02:29 PM

Not a bad deal for TN. 25 mil guranteed compared to lazy Zeke and Dallas stupidy with his 50 and 15 mil per year.

ThaVirus 07-15-2020 02:30 PM

I'd be pissed if the Chiefs signed a RB to that kind of deal, but for the Titans and the way they're built this makes sense.

If Tannehill can stay hot then they were able to keep the band together and try for another deep playoff push. If Tannehill turns back into a pumpkin then it doesn't matter anyway and Henry can keep some butts in the stands and have his salary off the books by the time they look to bring in another QB.

The dude behind us screamed “that was a GROWN MAN tackle.” All of the Chiefs fans in our section cheered, the Titans fans in front of us were confused, as they were controlling the game at that time.

I remember thinking that football camp hits like that (it reminded me of my early practice Oklahoma drills to wake us all up) were the exact type of hits the Ravens did not seem interested in (watching Earl try to arm tackle Henry was hilarious). And if that Henry still managed to beat us, at least the Chiefs would make him earn it.

The Chiefs D shutting Henry down never got them the credit they deserved. The national consensus basically had it locked in that Henry had a 150+ game coming and that it would come down to the last possession. It was amazing how the Chiefs completely dominated on rushing defense but how quickly that was forgotten going into the SB.

BryanBusby 07-15-2020 05:16 PM

If I’m the Titans, I load manage the shit out of Henry. Do what you can without him toting the rock in the regular season, make the playoffs, and unleash fresh Henry on everybody.

Yeah, trading for a RB that will be 30 next season with that many miles on the tires would be a hard sell. But it would still be amusing if he ended up here, as long as we didn’t give up much to get him.

Did some research anx surprisingly enough that is correct. Just based on the eye test based on how he runs with such physicality one would assume it would be a strength but turns out hes just avg at it. The thought is his legs are just too long.

Either way until we start utilizing a Mahomes QB sneak a short yardage back is not as valuable to us as it could be.

I think it's more likely that we read a Chiefs message board and people only happen to post the rumors about players who are linked to the team that the message board is about.

henry is such a legend and a beast that you'd want to consider it, if for the right price. But still, we got Pacheco.

Hell, the way Pacheco runs he almost wants to be a Derick Henry type. If he put on 30 lbs of pure muscle maybe it would be possible that would probably take more than 1 offseason to accomplish.

Couple analysts since 2019 have addressed henry's lack of efficiency on short yardage. repeatedly. I paid attention, watched the tape. I don't like to blindly believe in the stats. I was born in Columbia Mo, so you gotta show me.
