Ravens’ Matthew Judon hints at interest in joining Kansas City
by Matthew SchmidtJuly 14, 2020

The Baltimore Ravens slapped a franchise tag on linebacker Matthew Judon earlier this offseason, and it doesn’t look like the two sides are going to come to terms on a long-term agreement before the Wednesday deadline.

After Chris Jones—who was franchised by the Kansas City Chiefs back in March—agreed to a four-year, $85 million extension to remain with the Chiefs long term, Judon may be thinking about tagging along.

On Tuesday afternoon, Judon took to Twitter to ask Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu about potential homes in Kansas City:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/Mathieu_Era?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@Mathieu_Era</a> how’s the real estate in KC. Asking for a friend</p>&mdash; Matthew Judon (@man_dammn) <a href="https://twitter.com/man_dammn/status/1283110481692155906?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 14, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Of course, this could all be much ado about nothing. Even if the Ravens don’t extend Matthew Judon before the deadline, it’s entirely possible that the two sides can get something done next winter.

But clearly, Judon is not all that enthralled with his current situation.

Judon will make just over $16 million under the franchise tag this coming season and is coming off of a 2019-20 campaign in which he played every game and racked up 54 tackles, 9.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. He earned his first Pro Bowl selection as a result.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Grand Valley State, was originally selected by Baltimore in the fifth round (146th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Judon had a limited role during his rookie year, but in his second season, he broke out, appearing in every contest and registering 61 tackles, eight sacks, a couple of forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Since then, Judon has been a key contributor for the Ravens’ defense.

We could have around $45m in cap space next year, if a few things go our way.

Halfcan 07-14-2020 03:01 PM

He knows the Ravens will never win the SB as long as we have a healthy Mahomes.

candyman 07-14-2020 03:01 PM

It's so nice finally being a fan of a team that other good players want to play for. It's like being a former fat guy after getting serious and joining a gym.

wazu 07-14-2020 03:17 PM

I think it’s more him being a smart ass and pointing out Chiefs getting it done for their franchise tagged player whereas Ravens won’t.

You might be right but Judon would be a huge get for our linebacking group.

Judon is a 9 sack, 3 FF, 40 tackle type guy who is an all-around player. Good at rushing the passer, playing the run, being impact type guy. He isn't a dominating pass rusher but he versatile and tough.

Judon is the anti-Clowney

DaFace 07-14-2020 03:18 PM

I think we're gonna have to get used to lots of players expressing interest in playing for KC. Problem is we won't have the money to pay most of them.

Tribal Warfare 07-14-2020 03:19 PM

Judon may have been joking with Tyrann since his other nickname is The Landlord

This guy is a cheap shot artist. Suppose I would rather see him with KC instead of attempting cheap shots on Mahomes.

We are also going to start see older vets who have made their money want to sign here to get a ring especially if we can get back to the SB this year.

He can play either side. He has the toughness to tackle above his weight class.

I don't know how much money he wants but unless you think Speaks is going to finally step up we could use a guy like Judon.

Starting Clark and Judon with Okafor/Kpass/charlton as depth would be a significant upgrade for us.

Judon can also stay healthy.

I dunno. We probably don't want to do what it takes to create the cap space for him.

i didn't know this. Is it really cheap shots or is he just an enforcer type guy who keeps the other team from going after his guys?

candyman 07-14-2020 03:34 PM

Obviously this isn't happening, I dont think anyone here with more than a few brain cells think that. It's still hilarious knowing one of Raven fan's best/favorite players would rather be here.

Chiefspants 07-14-2020 03:38 PM

Having great players wanting to play for us is definitely in the High Quality category of problems 😎.

pugsnotdrugs19 07-14-2020 06:56 PM

Wishful thinking on his part.

DL is the last defensive area of need on this football team. And on top of that, he’s going to get $18-20m AAV.

No way.

Ratings will be through the roof if they play. The new tv contract $$$ will counterbalance anything in lost revenue due to decrease in stadium attendance.

Yeah....I think worst case is the cap stays flat.

TV revenue drives the bus...I do not get this sudden switch in thinking that it is stadium revenue...TV revenue outgains that by a significant margin.

Then the exasperated opposition's fans come back with " Chiefs Fans are stupid"

When you lay down Because Mahomes Bro, give him a good offensive line and an average defense He'll lead the Chiefs to Super Bowl wins.

No

siberian khatru 09-29-2020 07:02 PM

Did it come up in the game thread last night, Judon putting an elbow/forearm into Mahomes’ rib cage? Typically dirty play by him.

Chiefspants 09-29-2020 07:03 PM

Lamar's best chance is to get a Jeremy Maclin/Emmanuel Sanders upgrade that at least gives the Ravens O a fighting chance AND to pray the Chiefs will get upset by another team along the way.

Alex/Andy's problem was that the Steelers/Patriots (Andy/Alex's kryptonites) were always waiting. I'm going to be really interested to see how Lamar does against the Steelers, too (they were his toughest out in the division with a hs QB last year). If he finds one other kryptonite, that's going to be a hard hurdle to overcome in January.

I saw it; I thought he was aiming for the head but missed.

That confirmed to me that he's still a cheap-shot asshole. Many Ravens' fans are done with him now anyway, because he's produced NOTHING this year.

This definitely could be true, but if I'm Baltimore's FO I'd still want to upgrade their JUCO WR crew and see if how that shapes the team. If anything, it might give them the realization Andy had in 2016 that it didn't matter what weapons we had, but Alex was always going to be Alex no matter what weapons he had around him.
