Patio/Deck/Porch Mosquito Deterrent

So those bastards have been out with force this year. We have been in our house for almost 5 years and have NEVER seen mosquitos like this. Literally thousands on our sliding screen door and walls....we haven’t been out on the deck for the better part of 2 months.

Anyone have any tricks to keep these blood suckers away...?

Cum on every thing. Skeeters hate peters and everything that comes from them. I'd say piss, but cum will last longer.

Synthetic Pyrethrins (Talstar is an example) sprayed on the underside of bush and tree leaves around your home every 21 days. Even better when mixed with a larvacide such as Nyguard. You can spray this stuff everywhere including grass and mulch to get rid of chiggers too. I am a firm believer in better living through chemistry. Don’t even get me started about Ecstasy.

This is supposed to work well... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ANQVYU/

Thermacell® Radius™ Zone Mosquito Repeller. A guy I work with just recommended this to me the other day. He said this was the best he'd ever used and he lives next to Mosquito Lagoon in Florida.

In-laws gave me one of those for Christmas a couple of years ago. Jury is still out on whether it helps or not. Last summer, I don't think it worked very well.
This summer seems to be doing a better job of clearing mosquitoes. I couldn't go out in my garage without being attacked. Set the dynatrap up outside the garage and the problem has been reduced. Have no idea why it didn't work very well last year.
It certainly attracts moths and other flying bugs into the trap, but tough to tell the impact on mosquitoes. 1//2 acre is being generous. 30 ft radius might be more like it.

Put up a Purple Martin house next March. Those guys eat their body weight in bugs (mosquitos) a day.

We live in rural Oklahoma and I put up a couple houses each year and we get around 12-15 birds to come in an we have zero mosquitos around our house.

Birds show up in Mid-March and stay until the first of August. All it cost me was a couple of houses I have reused for about 5 years now.

Bat box, same idea, but to attract bats it must be fairly carefully placed so that it gets sun in the morning.

Neighbor had one at my old house and those ****ers absolutely terrorized my dog. If that ****er sees a bird on the ground he’s gone. ****ing hates birds on account of the martins.

I keep trying to find a place in China that will send me some Chlordane. That shit is where it’s at. Except for that pesky EPA.

Hello

cooper barrett 07-29-2020 11:37 PM

I have a quart I found in the crawl space of my parents house. Still sealed along with a commercial fogger.

I never saw a cockroach when young, now I now why.

Try ultrasonic repellers. They are relatively cheap and extremely effective. At least my neighbour managed to handle mouse infestation of his house with just a couple of such repellers. Another advantage of ultrasonic repellers besides their effectiveness is their versatility. Unlike other solutions, ultrasonic insect repellent works against all pests (roaches, bedbugs, insects, spiders, mice etc), are eco-friendly and silent. :thumb:

How do you get purple martins to move in as opposed to sparrows or crows or eagles?

displacedinMN 03-21-2021 03:25 PM

Bats and a bat house.

Clay hangs an old cum sock on each corner of his grill.

Cyonara under all tree leaves and hit all shrubs. This site has helped me with all sorts of pest issues including wasps and springtails.

Put the houses 50 feet in the air.

chiefforlife 03-21-2021 04:27 PM

We hired Mosquito Joe last year and it worked great. They come out and spray once a month for the spring and summer.

cooper barrett 03-21-2021 05:36 PM

Do the flies kill each other fighting for them?

Just how does it work? I hear there are thousands of those socks and at $5 a piece (wholesale). We could afford that home warranty they call me about 6 times a day.

They do stop calling, don't they?

Well plan to follow!

IA_Chiefs_fan 05-31-2021 06:48 PM

These are the best I've found. I placed them about 30' from each side of our deck and they made a huge difference. They worked so well that I even had them bore electric over to a couple of posts that I mounted these on. I empty them every few weeks and they are full of dead mosquitos.

If you want to go organic you could buy about 10 praying mantis egg cases.

After two years my mother's house went from impossible to damned near misquito free. This is not an overnight solution though and bug spray/poison kills them just like anything else.

On the positive side though they eat all other bugs including aphids, mosquitos, and dog dick flies...

lewdog 05-31-2021 07:26 PM

How about those tiki torches?
