B1G Could be playing football starting in October

Dan Patrick Show
@dpshow
“From source: If conference can pass updated safety measures and procedures, Big Ten targeting Oct. 10 to start football season.” - Dan Patrick

This came after the president met with B1G commish Kevin Warren. Warren's son plays for Mississippi St and they will be playing in September.

Also:

TV partners have already green-lighted any decision that B1G presidents and Kevin Warren decide on, but bigger networks Fox Sports and ESPN/ABC are also pushing for October start, per source.

Big Ten will only get partial TV revenue if they delay until Thanksgiving or later.

Sounds like maybe the parent groups and the pressure from the AD's actually made a difference. Good deal.

Yeah glad there could be college football during the fall but at the same time Frostys team is .500 at best.

Now had this season been delayed til next year his offense was going to have 10 projected starters on offense that were 4* guys and the defense would be average.

Gonna be alot of pressure when he goes 4-6 or 5-5 this year if they play.

mr. tegu 09-01-2020 10:42 PM

They must have had budget meetings today.

Perhaps, but it won't be anything meaningful. Schools aren't going to have buyout money for a long while unless boosters commit to it and extra to the school.

We'll see how committed they are to that.

The commissioner essentially made a unilateral decision. Several AD's objected but were ignored.

Then several groups of parents from Nebraska, Iowa, Ohio State, and Penn State started writing letters and the commissioner decided maybe he made a mistake.

I know the Nebraska players were considering litigation, too not sure if they filed it but they threatened it.

The commissioner should have known better.

If the University gets their way, and they go 40% capacity like little bro, it'll be about 30K. ;)

In all fairness, Iowa State benefits from the fact that their commissioner does whatever Tejas wants.

The B10 commissioner way overstepped his bounds. You know he screwed up when Ohio State signs on to a complaint.

The fact the Big 10 is already talking about an October or November return and with the ACC/SEC/Big 12 all about to start confirms the doomsday predictions... as is the case with most of the Corona-hype... were overblown.

They just let the media bully them into kicking the fans out.

The media was hyperventilating over positivity rates in Ames, where the college is testing every student who is returning to campus. The media doesn't care whether or not people are actually sick, just that positivity number to freak people out. Sad.

BREAKING: The Big Ten must disclose additional information related to its decision to postpone fall sports and in the next 10 days, the Lancaster County district court ruled.

FloridaMan88 09-02-2020 05:43 PM

It is no coincidence that the conferences with the two weakest commissioners have created a dumpster fire of fail with their panicked/rushed decisions to cancel fall football.

The Big 10’s new commissioner might be the shortest tenured commish in modern power conference history after this fiasco.

I just think Warren has the wrong background for the position he's in. He's clearly a smart individual, but I think you just have to have college experience in order to do the job. If Delany was still on the job I have no doubt the Big Ten would be playing football.

The way I understood it, they were supportive but the individual AD's were never consulted. He should have involved actual sports people before he decided to just call the whole thing off.

Kudos to the Huskers for spearheading this thing.

Ball is in the University Presidents court... they have access to the Abbott instant testing.

It's the final hurdle for player safety and initially they will the only conference that has it.

Kevin Warren is working to pull it together... this can happen and he can be the hero

Titty Meat 09-02-2020 10:25 PM

The timing of this is interesting not just the meeting with President Trump, but the court in Lancaster saying hey we want to see the information. I'm not a lawyer I guess them asking for that information would he standard but what happens if they were to rule against the B1G? Hopefully someone like DJ could chime in on this.

Apparently a discussed scenario is to play in indoor/domed stadiums that are in the Big 10 geographic footprint such as Indy, Minneapolis, Detroit, etc.

I guess taking part in indoor activities is no longer unsafe relative to playing outdoors.
