The greatest play in the history of golf?

That was an unbelievably amazing shot

carlos3652 11-11-2020 08:54 AM

I still think Tigers shot takes the cake where the ball drops and the crowd roars.

RockChalk 11-11-2020 08:56 AM

This has been done before. Many times actually. It's something they do at the Masters each year.

TribalElder 11-11-2020 08:59 AM

technically it wasnt a hole in one since he wasn't on a teebox

this was super cool and very lucky but they do this every year

I think today the caddies might get a shot

love the masters

Dartgod 11-11-2020 09:06 AM

Impressive, but it was a practice round and like RockChalk said, they often try to skip the ball onto the green during those rounds.

Here are two of what are considered some of the greatest shots in golf history.

Larry Mize in a playoff with Greg Norman in the '82 Masters, chips in from 110 feet away.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/FJEqTmIFbB4" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

In the 1982 US Open, Tom Watson was tied with Jack Nicklaus (finished and in the clubhouse) going to the 17th hole. This nearly impossible chip shot gave him a birdie and ultimately the US Open title.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/DO6qIg7aInw" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Hog's Gone Fishin 11-11-2020 09:10 AM

If it was me I would have brought a fishin pole and said screw it, you guys go ahead.

MahiMike 11-11-2020 09:14 AM

This is how many hole in one's happen. Off a rake, hitting another ball etc. Lotta luck.

TribalElder 11-11-2020 09:14 AM

This was one of my favorite hole-in-one moments that I recall watching unfold live on tv

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WD8G-_PaWSM" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Dartgod 11-11-2020 09:31 AM

A couple of more.

There is no video of it, but Gene Sarazen's double eagle to go from 3 shots down to a tie in the 1935 Masters is also considered one of the greatest shots in golf.

And then there was Tiger's chip-in on 16 in the 2005 Masters. This is the same hole from the OP.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7Fg4sZLrjwA" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Who here has had a hole in one. I haven't. I have made a number of Eagles, never a hole in one.

BeMyValentine 11-11-2020 10:03 AM

Bill Haas shot out of the water to win $10 Million is a great shot.

FedEx Cup 2011 Sudden Death Playoff hole.

I'm a shitty golfer so I have not. I have one eagle in my life, a hole out from around 130 yards on a par 4.

Rain Man 11-11-2020 10:20 AM

I have 1. Father's Day about 10 years ago at Alvamar (Lawrence, KS) on Hole #12.

The hole/course no longer exist, as they completely redid the course a few years ago and renamed it Jayhawk Club.

Made one last May on a 125 yard par three. Have come close many times prior and since, but that's the only one so far.

BWillie 11-11-2020 11:49 AM

I think it's hole #16 or #15 at Augusta, something like that. It's a par 3 on the back where if the pin is in a certain spot the ball just funnels to the hole. I've got a couple hole and ones on that one on my golf simulator, but that doesn't really count. It's a weird hole, most holes you can hit 500 shots and have no chance. That hole with that pin you can get it like 1 out of 300 times on a good shot. Probably has the most hole in ones on avg per shot than any par 3 in golf major history. Seems like they always put that pin like that on Sat or Sunday for excitement.

Kman34 11-11-2020 12:06 PM

Lee Trevino started the tradition of skipping the ball on #16 on the practice round years ago.. I think a few players have made it that way too.. I read a article about it yesterday but can't remember where..

I have made one hole in one at a 135 yd par three at Liberty Hills # 4.. Course is now closed..

RockChalk 11-11-2020 12:11 PM

Yes. They set that hole up for players to try it exactly the way Rahm did. It's been made many times.

I'm not saying it's not an impressive shot, but it's certainly not the greatest play in golf history. Not even close, especially considering it being done during practice.

philfree 11-11-2020 12:37 PM

He didn't make a hole in one but my dad(rip) skipped one off a carp's back and onto the green one day. My dad was always lucky like that.

It's 16. Mid back left allows for shots hit 20 feet right and 10 feet short to 10 feet long to funnel down to the pin.

15 is the longer of the par 5 holes on the back with water fronting the green and a shaved bank that grabs short approaches.

I've had 3...but then again I'm 53 now and started playing when I was 6.

I shot a jack rabbit in the head at 100 yards when it was running full speed with an HMR .17

True story.

Oh yeah? Well when I was 19, I did a guy in Laos with a rifle shot at a thousand yards in high wind. Maybe eight or even ten guys in the world could have made that shot. It's the only thing I was ever good at...

I have never shot par on a single hole across the handful of rounds I’ve played.

Have you tried drinking while golfing? You might want to.

REDHOTGTO 11-11-2020 06:43 PM

ive had 5 eagles, bounced one out of the hole one time, and won 3 closest to the pins in tourneys but not an actual hole in one . had a friend hit an albatross a week ago, thats rare too

TribalElder 11-11-2020 09:32 PM

Albatross is more impressive

Stryker 11-11-2020 09:39 PM

Unfortunately, it was just assing around but hands down, the best shot I have ever witnessed! :thumb:

Great Expectations 11-11-2020 10:41 PM

I have one hole in one, dozens of eagles, but only 3 from over 125 yards out.

I have had 2 of them one I would consider lucky and one I would consider legit , both on a 140 yard holes.

I've come close on a few par 3's. One bouncing off the flagpole. Damn it. :cuss: Did knock in a birdie from about 85 yrds behind and over a bunker without seeing the flag. Totally luck on that one. :D

I had a "hole in 3" at the 200 yard #14 at Klein Creek. Hit the first ball in the water, dropped another ball on the tee and knocked it in.

I have saved balls from "hole outs" over the years and marked them with the date and hole. Kind of fun memories.

The luck comment was spot on. I had a friend get a hole in one his second round of playing golf, with me.

Another day, in our men's league three of us hit good shots on a short par 3, but this old fart had one land on a sprinkler head, shoot across the green, hit the flag and go in.

I could absolutely see this happening. If I ever get one I would hope mine would be so memorable. :D On a side note, I think that guy in Omaha still has the Guinness world record for longest putt. 444 yrds. Guy tee'd off with a putter with about a 50+ mph behind him and got it. Correction.. Looked it up. Some guy in Canada beat him in 2002. Hit it from 517 yrds.

meleknistra 10-28-2021 04:42 AM

I can assume the greatest game we will this gpa season

ljmhawk 10-28-2021 05:22 AM

Jonathan Byrd won a tour event in a playoff by making a hole in one…that trumps any of these because it was for the win.

TPC stadium without the stands may be one of the worst courses in Scottsdale specifically the 16th is nothing without the stands. It is a sterile resort course with a lot of man made hazards. What were your thoughts after playing?

My buddy has his photo on the wall at Calabasas golf club for being the only one to get a hole-in-one on a par 4. I guess he hit it over the trees on a dogleg on a windy day and got lucky.

Nope, been playing for 46 yrs and never had a hole in one.

My closest, 1974, a Jr in HS @ Burlington KS match, 1 inch away. Shot 75 and medalist that day by 5 shots on a very windy day.

I've had 4-5 others within a foot. Countless eagles, holed out many of shots but never an Ace.
