What a great time to travel!!

If you are not one of Fauci's flock this is a great time to travel. I get free air but the hotels and airfare are super cheap. In the last 9 months we have traveled all over and done jiu-jitsu tournaments in Florida and Texas. We have also been to Colorado, Oregon and Arizona. My only regret was missing 2 weeks in Mexico. We have went to Texas so many times we are currently looking for a house in the Fort Worth area. So nice to go to the Ice House and listen to some live music and be normal. I hope you guys are having a great holiday with the people that matter the most. Go Chiefs!!!!

I’ve been flying almost every weekend since Memorial Day and I’ve probably paid under 300 total for all of it. Gotten a ton of free promos from Allegiant as well as some other airlines so many of my flights have been free.

TribalElder 12-14-2020 12:51 PM

I'll have a large travel with no side of Rona'

Hotels are dirt cheap too. We were in Bedford last time out in a decent hotel and I think we paid like under $300 for a week. I love that area. I would consider moving to Florida but the wife doesn't want to work out of Miami. Missed Vegas this last weekend. Hopefully get it in again before year end.

I will next time. We do tournaments in Phoenix. Always wanted to spend a few days in Sedona. We will be really close when we find a house in Texas. Probably be out there twice a year.

My family owns a Travel Agency. It has been a very challenging year, to say the least, but it is a great time to travel as far as prices go. Airfare is super cheap and hotels/resorts have great deals as well.

My advice:

* Check the Covid restrictions first. Example: Aspen has great deals right now and we were putting together a Ski Package until I researched it. Aspen has very strict Covid guidelines and you have to sign an Affidavit. You can be fined up to $5,000 as well as being put on mandatory quarantine. As an agency, we do not want to put our customers into that situation. So we will be putting out a Breckenridge Package this week instead.

* Check the fine print and State Covid Guidelines. My wife and I took a trip around Lake Michigan for a Lighthouse tour. Michigan hotels are restricted from serving the Hot Breakfast they promise online. Make sure if you are expecting a breakfast it does not end up being a water bottle and granola bar like we were stuck with.

* Book now for cheap prices, but look into travel insurance if you think there is a chance your future plans might fall through.

* You will need a US Passport for anything out of the States now. A valid driver's license used to work for Canada and Mexico- but not any longer.

* Some Countries and States are requiring a Covid test within 72 hours of traveling.

* No go zone sections in cities within the United States. Check for current Safety issues. We were in Chicago recently and as soon as night hit- BLM took over the streets. Do you really want to go to New York right now with crime up 500%?

* What are your goals? If it is to relax in a Spa and go to some nice restaurants, museums, and other indoor activities- make sure the city or state is not locked down- Like Chicago and Michigan. Michigan makes you buy an extra Covid Pass to walk through their State Parks now. Make sure there are no curfews.

I would recommend the US Virgin Islands right now. No Passport needed. You need a current Covid test, but most everything including bars are open. My company can book you through the Wholesale Travel portals at up to 65% off with travel dates into August. You can also make payments. Mexico and the Caribbean have amazing All-Inclusive deals as well. PM me if you are ready to travel! Be safe!

* Before I get a bunch of responses that booking through an agency is more expensive / I book my own travel with my phone, ect- No it is not cheaper. We have access to the Wholesale Travel Portals.

It’s going to be hard for an anti-vaxxer like yourself to travel to certain places once the COVID vaccine is out and available to the public.

Report back!

I am planning on going this year. We are researching it now and putting some nice packages together. A friend just got back and said it is amazing, but some parts of the island still have storm damage. The resorts are offering some really great deals and airfare is cheap.

I think it will be a great place to go right now because- No Passport, everything is open, beautiful beaches, pretty safe and great prices. It has been on my list for a long time and can't wait to go.

It's cheap and it feels much smaller than Dallas, but still has all of the big city amenities. Residents are typically friendly and race relations are generally good.

Yeah, I like Ft. Worth for sure. I'm about 4-5 years from selling my primary residence here in Wichita and buying or building a place in Colorado. A secondary place (FT Worth) to escape about 4 months of shit in CO would be nice.

Bedford, Colleyville, Grapevine. Gotta stay next to the airport, that's where the wife would go. There are supposed to be a boatload of houses coming on the market Jan-March so I am kind of holding out. This is the house I liked the best it's just more house than I need.

It was probably just the traffic headache getting to everyone. The entry and exit options to the speedway are awful.

Yeah, it's a good idea to stay close to work because the mid-cities traffic is bad at almost all hours of the day - particularly 121 and 183 between the airport and North Richland Hills. Colleyville and Grapevine are typically upper middle / lower upper class white havens. Bedford is a bit less ritzy-ish. None of those areas have crime issues and the public schools are relatively decent if you are going to do that. You could also check out the other side of the airport by Coppell/Lewisville/Irving. Most of what I said previously applies there as well.

That part was actually easy. We chartered a helicopter out right to DFW. Except for that asshole Tony Stewart's team jumping in front of us, ha ha.

Just meant the nightlife and bars. Nobody seemed real friendly. Then again, we weren't wearing cowboy hats or boots, and talked normal.

Where you hearing about the influx of houses after the first of the year? Anything to do with foreclosure and eviction protection expiring? I’ve been lookin the north DFW area but there isn’t much on the market right now.

Yep, St. John is better than St. Thomas. Add Cinnamon, Trunk and, of course, Oppenheimer's Beach.

If you stay on St. Thomas, try to get a place on Peterborg with a view of Magen's Bay.

Also, be aware that parts of St. Thomas are quite poor. And, if you drive, have fun....

This was one of the most surreal experiences of my life. My father in law rented a vehicle, but before he rented it, the guy gave us literally a 30 minute lecture on how to drive and the problems we were going to encounter. He drove us around the island and pointed stuff out like "Hey in this parking lot people are going to back out here and try to hit you" "Around this corner someone will come out of this drive and forget which side of the road to drive on", etc. He then made us take a written test before the car would be rented out.

Literally everything he showed us about traffic we saw happen (though not to us) at some point during the trip.

Still had a great time and would go back.

A test? I rent from Hertz and they just handed me the keys.

LMAO

They did mention the first time that the bus drivers do drive in the middle of the road and I'd need to learn to drive with the driver's side mirror in the vegetation.

We were supposed to be going to Jamaica for New Years/Anniversary for a week. But it’s gotten very difficult to get into Jamaica currently and I didn’t want to take a chance of not being able to go at the last minute (plus the resort we were supposed to be going to isn’t open still). So we ended up booking for Cancun about a month ago. No restrictions and don’t have to test to enter. First time going to any other country but Jamaica, but I’m excited and ready!

I agree with Dong. St. Johns is cool. You need a passport for St. Johns though. It is very cool and there are sugar mill ruins that are pretty cool to see. Best Snorkeling ever for me, and I've been a lot of cool places, is the Ritz Carlton hotel bay area on St. Thomas. The Marriott property on St. Thomas, pre storm, was also a very cool property. The have beach front villas which are nice, and right on the beach or they have a typical resort hotel on the "cliff" with free shuttles to downtown and the straw markets.
I've done 3 Kat sails out of Tortolla as well, best Trips ever, and the cost are pretty reasonable if you have a family or some other couples then you can see much more, Virgin Gorda, the Baths, the Indians, Jost Van Dyke-Soggy Dollar, Willy-Ts Bay Bar...

If he wants to live further out, 170/114 has seamless access to DFW...so options like Roanoke, Northlake and even south Flower Mound open up. Or Far North Ft. Worth where I'm at. Grapevine would be ideal, but you have to really love the Grapevine vibe to live there IMO. Personally, I'd stay clear of mid-cities (HEB). I don't like the density over that way.

Thanks for your input. I wouldn't mind being further out. I have a 13 year old son who is killing it in school so finding him one where he will excel is critical. I am tired of paying a kings ransom for private school and I understand there are good schools the Grapevine? Even the private schools I have looked at out there are a lot less than here. What is the Grapevine vibe?
He also is competing at a very high level in jiu-jitsu so if he is going to be world class we need to get to know instructors out there. Not many are willing to put the time and effort and have the skill to go there. Looking at Gracie Barra and Ribero next trip out.

The hardest part for us is moving out of the mountains which I have been in almost my entire life. It's the people in Texas that really won us over. My son was like "dad the people here are so nice" It was our first trip a couple of years back and we had only been there for an hour. I said are you saying the people back home are dicks? He said yea, pretty much. Looking forward to normal people.

St. John is part of USVI. You don't need a passport.

Yeah...Grapevine/Colleyville are good schools. Same with Northwest ISD and Keller ISD. HUGE districts, FWIW. Mostly 6A schools...except Colleyville-Grapevine are 5A.

Grapevine vibe - they're a bit more Dallas-ish than Ft. Worth - kinda' defeats the purpose of a move due to liking Fort Worth IMO. Grapevine also has a bit of a hippy vibe. Lots of non-Grapeviners descend on the city for their scene...the wineries, the lake etc. Makes it kinda' miserable to drive around on the weekends.

Further out would be the Northwest ISD area and Keller ISD areas. If you like Colleyville from a C.O.L and wealth standpoint, try Trophy Club as a further out alternative. Again...driving the 170/114 connection to DFW is nothing. Easy roads compared to mid-cities, etc. I make it to DFW in about 20 minutes in traffic and I'm near Roanoke.

I've done more traveling this year than ever. I feel bad when the resort has more employees than customers but I'm doing my part.

Just got back from the keys during high season and felt like the ocean was all ours.

Good times.

I stand corrected. I needed to show my passport and go through customs because we sailed out of Tortolla, which is a BVI.

We were going to visit the North Pole this December but had to cancel the reservation. And now I haven't a clue when we will have another opportunity to make this trip. I saw the Northern Lights only in the photos of National Geographic and hope to see this impressive spectacle myself some time soon.

Big YES to both. Went to St Johns and St Thomas last January. First time @ Johns, multiple times to Thomas. Megan's Bay is one of the most beautiful, serene places on earth. Get there at sunrise, dare to ever leave.

That sounds like a fantastic idea, but vaccines won't be available to gen pop for 6-9 months.

Agree on some levels. It all depends on where you are going. We spent a month in Florida in December, and it could not have been more perfect. (Clearwater Beach) - we actually stayed in the house we rented most of the time.

I had to take an unexpected trip last week. The airports are just empty. I’ve never seen anything like it.

One bad part: I have to go through Seattle. The WA gov has shut down all the bars and restaurants, even in airports. So having a long layover in Seattle doesn’t mean I can sit in the Alaska Airlines lounge and drink. That part is really crappy.

But I got great ticket prices to KC for the AFCCG. Normal Anchorage to Seattle price is about $350-400 one way in cheap seats. I got a one way first class ticket for $200. So there’s that.

Got a solo trip planned end of March. Flying into Seattle and grabbing a bunch of to-go beers from a handful of breweries. Then driving down to Portland to do the same. Then ultimately heading to the Oregon coast with a trunk full of world class beer, hiking boots and a playlist loaded with death metal.

Going for a Schitt’s Creek meets Twin Peaks type of getaway. Schitt’s Peak. Twin Schitt’s. Either way looking forward to it.

Yup. So far 4 trips since August. Almost feel guilty cause the staff at the resorts outnumber us guests.

I ain't scared of no 'Rona.

Vegas is very empty per the usual but man are there a ton of chiefs fans here. I can’t wait to come here next year when we can go to stadiums.

It’s gonna be great

I'm assuming this thread has been bumped to announce the death of Big Daddy to COVID. May he rest in peace.

It's 100k - 240k total, not 240k in the next few days. People really need to quit watching fear porn. First they compared it 1918 where 20-50M died. Currently we are under 50k in the entire world. Little difference there. Then we got the predictions that went from 3M deaths in the US and has incrementally worked it's way down. I know people who have had Corona but none of them died or had any complications. On the other hand I know a ton of people who are having their life destroyed. Lost job and income. Losing their businesses.Look around you instead of at all the fear porn on TV. Lets put this in perspective.

Deaths in the US annually

Car accidents almost 40k
Heart disease 650k
Cancer 600k
Unintentional injuries 170k
Chronic lower respiratory disease 160k
Stroke and cerebrovascular diseases 147k
Alzheimers 125k
Diabetes 84k
The flu 61k
Kidney disease 52k
Suicide 50k

The Wuhan virus is killing 10's of millions of Americans but not in the way exploited by the media with their fear porn. Millions are losing their job, their homes, businesses and life savings. We do this long enough we could have a great depression, awesome. The chance that covid 19 is what's going to take you out is slightly above zero. The death rate no matter what it is projecting at this moment is a grain of sand on the beach of what could happen to the quality of life for all of us if people keep buying into this BS.

Yeah. My wife and I went to Pigeon Forge in October and hiked the Smokies. It was super cheap. Less than $200 each for round trip tickets and I rented an SUV for $26/ day. Also got an awesome cabin in the mountains on Airbnb that just wouldn't have been available normally.

Going to Vegas for a week on Wednesday. Got my N95s, zinc gummies and Ski goggles all ready

Just had to cancel a Mexico trip I had planned for the end of February. They are now saying you have to get tested on the resort and be negative to be allowed back in the country, and when you return it is a mandatory 7 day quarantine, even if you were negative. Just too much of a potential risk with the job. It was nice to actually look forward to a each getaway. **** you, China.

We were supposed to go to Bonaire last summer. Was hoping to use our flight credits to go somewhere this year but with the new protocols I guess we are going to USVI.

Nice, that's a good backup plan when all else fails.

Maybe I should put some effort into checking out if there are any deals to be had in the USVI....

Good to see you old friend. Hope you are well. I am just spending time flying to Texas now trying to buy a killer pad. Timing could be better. They are calling it a cash offer California market for the good stuff. Gotta get out of the Peoples Republic.
