Greatest QB TD Run in NFL History?
I've seen Lamar Jackson's TD run against the Titans referred to as "the greatest QB TD run in NFL history" numerous times this week.
It was pretty impressive, but I seem to remember a certain QB run in the AFC Championship game last year, ironically also against the Titans. Here they both are, plus a bonus run for you to vote on. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cY-JwvcxWB8" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/PLhCzwI-r98" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dsAQDkisqWI" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
It has to be Bono's because of the length of the run. He didn't actually reach the end zone until Tuesday afternoon.
|
I'm not even sure Lamar's is top 5. The two you have up there, the Steve Young one they show to this day, and I'm allowing for a couple more that I can't remember. Lamar's was basically a sweep right. He's fast and anytime someone breaks a long run, of course it's an accomplishment but we see that play or plays like it multiple times per week.
|
The Steve Young one is an all timer
|
Vick vs the Vikings.
|
Can't imagine voting for anything but the Mahomes run. Eluded 5-6 tacklers during an epic run to take the lead in the AFC Championship game. Chiefs never looked back after that. Superman stuff!
|
I voted Bono because of how far he ran and how slow he was. While Mahomes run last year vs the Titans will always bring a smile to my face, it's nothing I would not expect from him. The Bono run was something you will never see again.
|
|
Im not putting Mahomes or Jacksons up there as the greatest. Both impressive. Mahomes kind of gets it on a lack of effort/ decieving athleticism. Jacksons was physically impressive from a speed standpoint, like comparing Hardmans big return last year to one of Dante Halls freak returns. Winning with sheer speed isnt as impressive as making 6 guys miss.

Idiotic take, the Lamar love-fest is out of hand.
That Bono run is hilarious, never anyone on the screen besides the big guy waving him towards the endzone lol. Nice run by Mahommes there, doesn't touch the Steve Young run though. Steve had a bunch. (This site won't let a newbie post the vid, youtube "Steve Young's famous 49-yard") <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LbPwwmEcws0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

Yeah, that's a pretty impressive run. But this thread was more about having fun comparing two runs against the Titans in back to back years than it was voting on the actual "best run in history". |
Poll is worthless. Obviously this QB run is the best in all of NFL history, and possibly all of sports history combined.

And Scorpio, I had to thumb you down for making an offensive post. |
As CoMo said - Vick's TD run was impressive. It was the first time I remember seeing a QB run, and he was so fast he made all defenders look like they were running in quicksand:

Thanks.
Gotcha. The contrast definitely exposes the drive-by sports media and their race to declare every Lamar play as "godly". Wake me up when he can play like a real QB for more than one series at a time. |
I was looking for a Fran Tarkenton TD run and discovered Mahomes style is very similar to Frans.

The Mahomes Run vs the Titans is right up there with the David Freese triple in Game 6 of the 2011 World Series for most excited I’ve ever gotten during and after a play.
Both times I leaped up out of my chair and started jumping around and screaming like a maniac. |

Had Bono's "run" been in a playoff game that could be number one...
|
I mean, which one do you think is going to win on this website?

On the Bono run the announcer started to say Dave Kreig before he corrected himself.

The only thing impressive about the Bono play is how big of an idiot Buddy Ryan was sending an all out 11 man run blitz in an attempt to stop Marcus Allen from getting a first down. Ubeja Vontell could have crawled 75 yards for the touchdown on that play.

This is a really good thread. Thanks Dart.

Bono's run gave me my first boner, but Patrick's run made me PERMANENTLY ERECT!!!!!

The two best from the college ranks

Ooooooooh no.....
Looks like he's gonna throw.... Please don't Steve Bono |
A lot of nostalgic moments inspired by this thread. Here are a few of my favorites:
-Mahomes TD run against the Titans -Wasp (obv) -Salvy in the Wild Card game -Gordon HR in Game 1 of the World Series 2015 -Hosmer’s mad dash -Mario Chalmers 2008 Championship -T Rob and-1 then block to tie the game against Missouri in 2012 -Tyshawn Taylor making Stilman White cry 2012 en route to the Final Four -Knile Davis kick return TD vs Houston to help end the drought -Dante Hall punt return TD against Denver -Damien Williams rushing TD to seal the Super Bowl win -Kirk Hinrich blocks Jason Gardner to send Kansas to the Final Four 2003 -Aqib Talib pick 6 versus Virginia Tech 2007 Orange Bowl -Kerry Meier TD for the win against Missouri 2008 |
Lamar Jackson shouldn't count, he's just a running back that sometimes throws the ball.

Bono was a trash QB and that run is his only claim to fame because the defense had its head up their ass.. I’ll never give Bono any credit for anything. Piece of crap QB.. |
Bono left much to be desired as a franchise QB but the run was golden.

Meh. There have been some incredible runs by QBs in NFL history.
I would say that it's likely that Lamar has a run that should be in the top 5, though I couldn't pick one right this second. Mahomes run in the AFCCG last season might be in the top-5. Definitely would think it's a top 10. For a QB, in a playoff game, for a TD. Might make top-5 if you consider the ramifications of that run. |

Yup I thought of this one right away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
There were also a few really good Kap runs vs GB in NFCCG. But I voted for the one done by the best qb on the planet.
|
The speed and acceleration Lamar showed off on that run was pretty insane. When he hits the open field and turns on the jets, it's truly impressive.
I also loved his run with the nasty spin move against the Bengals last season. |
Nuthooks You said QB but Lamar isn't a quarterback he is a Jamaal Charles type runningback
|
Kap versus the Pack
|
I would bet that NFL players would say that Lamar Jackson's was the most special because the only other player in the NFL who could outrun that many angles on a run is Tyreek Hill.
Considering that Lamar was 0-2 in the postseason and had never led a Ravens comeback victory trailing by 10+points, that was the turning point of the game. All the Titans fans in that stadium thought they were seeing a 3rd and 10 sack or incompletion and next thing Lamar is in the endzone and the Ravens take over the game. |

Here's one that probably shouldve been considered (VS the bolts):
<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7yh2vpBchfw" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0"></iframe> Not a fan of his but man he was explosive before teams figured him out. One of the best games I ever saw ANYONE play was: Colin Kapernick VS the Packers in that playoff game. 500 total yards, 200 on the ground. He was unstoppable. I'm not a fan of his but that was an insane running day coupled with a 300yd passing day to beat a very solid GB team. Source: https://www.pro-football-reference.c...1301120sfo.htm Highlights of that game (and the 20 yd run): <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6rHWeDOJYDM" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0"></iframe> Rushing TD #2 of 56 yards: <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/FP2Rn3LROSg" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0"></iframe> x |
