Wow. RIP. A true giant!

scho63 01-22-2021 09:32 AM

I'll never forget that homerun trot when he broke Babe Ruth's record and the guy who came running up to steal his cap as was rounding second base.

A true legend and great spokesmen for baseball.

R.I.P. to yet another of my childhood legends.

Let’s put the hammer down a couple more times this year in honor of the great Hammerin Hank.

Heroes get remembered but legends never die. Hank Aaron is a legend.

RIP, Hammering Hank.

Hydrae 01-22-2021 09:39 AM

True loss of a man who's greatness was quiet and understated. From ROTY to the greatest HR hitter ever (**** Bonds!) and on to an ambassador for the sport that gave him so much.

I hope the Braves win the WS and dedicate the season to Aaron. I'm bummed... the dude was constantly in the booth during broadcasts and attended nearly every home game.

RIP Hank

IowaHawkeyeChief 01-22-2021 10:07 AM

Growing up in rural lilly white Iowa, Hammerin' Hank was every kids hero and everyone wanted to imitate him in little league in the 70's...

RIP Hank!

R.I.P. HANK.

I used to work with someone who knew those two guys who ran up to Aaron, they all were from the same small South Georgia town, Blackshear. He said they were drunk as skunks that night (shocking, I know).

Rain Man 01-22-2021 10:17 AM

How are the two guys who ran with him on #715?

I remember this happening. It was kind of a big deal in the sports world.

An all-time great who is still underrated.
If you take away all of his home runs, he still has 3000+ hits.

Brings back awesome memories; I was blessed to live at a time when I was able to watch Hammerin' Hank, Ted Williams, Stan Musial, Willie Mays, Duke Snider, Mickey Mantle, and many many more. Hank was always a class act.

Brutal year for baseball deaths

Hank hit HR 736 right here in KC. A towering moonshot off Al Fitzmorris.

86 wow. Nice life. RIP.

Cheater5 01-22-2021 12:17 PM

My 8th birthday present was a wooden Louisville Slugger signature model baseball bat; Henry Aaron was etched in the barrel. Anyway, he was for sure one of my sports heroes growing up and always seemed to be a gentleman and class act. RIP.

Only Jackie Robinson put up with more abuse than Hank did when he broke the record. He was a great player, steady and reliable, and a great man who didn't deserve to be put through the Hell he endured when the record closed in. Class man, and one of the games all time greats.

Absolutely. He was a slugger, but also a great hitter who didn’t strike out a lot for a power guy. Just a great pure all around hitter.

A true legend.

joethomas 01-22-2021 01:20 PM

Still the REAL home run king.

Just heard this.

One of the all-time greats rounds the bases for the last time.

RIP

Never saw them play but that blew my mind in city slickers where the guy thought clemente was a better player

ARROW2 01-22-2021 02:25 PM

Heard he took the vax two weeks ago.....He was 86.....why? I'm sure it's not related to his death......right? Loved Hammerin Hank...

I was a Sr. In HS, 1975 4 buddies & myself was at that game. We wanted to see a part of history if Hank hit one, sure enough it was late in the game, a solo shot.

Bl00dyBizkitz 01-22-2021 03:17 PM

I'm too young to truly appreciate him but the way others talked about him, you had to respect his greatness. What a legend. RIP

I've argued for years he's actually underrated. People think of the home runs, but he was an all-around great player -- hit for average, had 3,700 hits, stole bases, was a good fielder in the prime of his career. He led the league in HRs only four times, but he was amazingly consistent and durable. Just a towering figure.

tredadda 01-22-2021 03:25 PM

RIP to one of the greatest hitters to ever play. His overall stats are amazing and go well beyond just HRs. Still the all time leader in RBIs, total bases, and extra base hits. Plus he is third in hits and fourth in runs scored. He was a three time gold glover and 25 time all star. He was elected to the HOF with a 97.8% approval on the first ballot (not sure the reasons why he couldn't get the other 2.2%). He was truly a legend.

Jesus. Looks like the only guys he didn't own were Seaver, Gibson and Sutton.

Koufax must have had nightmares about him.

Deberg_1990 01-22-2021 11:02 PM

I am not one who usually sees race in things, but if not for race I wonder what would have caused some not to vote for him. His numbers easily justified it and being the all time HR leader would have been a shoo in, regardless of era.

PunkinDrublic 01-22-2021 11:20 PM

My favorite of the old timers. I read his autobiography “I had a hammer” when I was a kid and it instantly made me a fan. Love Hank!

joethomas 01-22-2021 11:25 PM

aaron's career OPS is .9285 so he was actually better against koufax and carlton than the rest of the league

jerryaldini 01-22-2021 11:48 PM

Incredible consistency. My favorite player in the 70s. RIP king.

A lot of people wouldn't guess he's 3rd all time in hits. Only guys ahead of him are Rose and Cobb.

Red Dawg 01-23-2021 08:44 AM

Iconic all time great player. Arguably the best hitter of all time.

There is no other reason. Everything he did on the field was hof worthy.
