No he doesn't, neither does Fisher.

Despite this board's irrational hate for both.

The dude has earned nearly $200 million dollars playing football so there's no way in hell he's putting in 14 hours a day as coach.

The guy is reportedly smart AF and personable. With that kind of stash, he can do almost anything in the world that he wants to do.

BossChief 03-05-2021 10:00 PM

He would probably rival Romo in the booth. Probably better in the booth than on the field...if he wants to stay around the game and collecting checks, that’s the best way.

But first, Jacksonville on line 1.

Yeah dude should do something in the lobbyist field or hedge funds and will probably turn that into a billion when it's all said and done.

chiefzilla1501 03-06-2021 05:07 AM

Not surprising after he trashed the team to the press. And can't say I blame him. He saved that teams otherwise miserable season and I don't think the organization or the fans gave a shit. Considering everything he went through he was treated pretty badly. You'd expect a team that's been constantly terrible to be a little more appreciative.

cooper barrett 03-06-2021 06:18 AM

WTF Booth?

I just don't see that.

I remember when they interviewed him in his own house ...he sucked. I think in the booth the same thing.

Way more Trent green than Romo. But I think he'd be pretty good in the booth. He's not gonna have early the same kind of fun personality as romo.

1. In their eyes, he really ruined their season. Went from a 2-win team to a division winner. Yes, the worst team in our division would win the NFC East. But he still ****ed up their draft pick, and they had no choice but to play him because Haskins went full JaMarcus Russell...

Yep. He would have moved the chains better so it would not have come down to 3rd & 14.

oldman 03-06-2021 10:21 AM

While the hate may be strong on CP, he and Andy took a 2-14 team to 11-5 in 1 season. Was he a 49ers castoff? Yes, but better than any QB we had since Green, probably better. Did he win the big one? No, but at least we were in the playoffs 4 of the 5 seasons he was here. Most important, he knew he was history as soon as PMII's name was announced in the 2017 draft. But he still took him under his wing. That's class. Have a good life, Alex.

Alex took a lot of unnecessary sacks and it’s actually quite possible he would have been facing 3rd and 14, too.

In his prime he was certainly better than Henne.

He was NOT better than Trent Green. No way.

He was an adequate game manager that they severely overpaid.

Ive always thought he was better than Green.

Green threw too many untimely INTs.

But arguments could be made either way for each.

I'll always appreciate Kendall Fuller for his game sealing pick in the Super Bowl. He wasn't really what I thought he'd be for us here (although he might have had a spot at safety over slot corner), but I'll always remember and appreciate him for that play.

This is actually a pretty good idea. Even if Lawrence is week 1 starter, Smith would be a great guy to have in the QB room for TL (or whomever the Jags take). Mahomes and Kaepernick have both given high praise to Alex for helping them when they were young.

Yeah seems tailor made for him, doesnt it?

If Meyer wants TL to sit a few games to get up to speed, Smiths right there

Or if TL starts the year but stumbles outta the gate, they can bench him to cool him off and... Smiths right there

Either way, they have a role model for TL and Smitty gets to play a few more games

Here's their stats as a Chief. Maybe it's just me, but 50-26-0 is a better record than 48-40-0 and 102 TDs to 33 INTs beats 118 TDs to 85 INTs.

QB Yrs Rec Comp% Yds TD Int Y/C Y/G
Green 6 48-40-0 61.9 21459 118 85 12.5 243.9
Smith 5 50-26-0 65.1 17608 102 33 11.1 231.7

Wins are not a QB stat.

Smith was a better QB for KC if you want your QB to be a chickenshit and protect the ball above all else.

Green beats him in all other ways.

Wins get you to the playoffs. Playoffs get you to the SB.

I'm not debating whether Smith or Green was the better QB, I'm just pointing out that maybe Green isn't the 3rd or 4th best QB the Chiefs ever had.

I dunno...basically across their careers with KC, they had identical TDs/game at 1.34, but Green's INT rate was almost 1/game, whereas Smith was .43/game. That's a lot of possessions Green was giving up for no more success in getting the ball into the end zone.

Trent threw 24 picks in '01, his worst INT season with us. He likely would have had more TD throws in his KC career, but Priest was such a monster in the red zone behind that all world line......

RealSNR 03-07-2021 09:13 PM

Damon Huard also played things safe and won us a handful of games.

No, seriously. Basically all of the wins during the Herm Era are thanks to Downfield Damon. Green got one or two and Thigpen got 1.

I think he even had a winning record with us in spite of being on a 4-12 and 2-14 team.

Are some of you going to argue he's a better QB than Green?

I remember Trent throwing a 103-yard pick-six from the one yard line at my first Chiefs game. *sigh*

Happened just after I snapped this picture. All he had to do was not stare down Tony or maybe put some air under it. Nope. Tony R cuts inside, Tony G goes outside and the Houston defender steps right in front of Gonzalez and heads for the end zone. Priest almost caught him, which was impressive as hell.

Jamal Charles may have been the fastest RB the Chiefs have had but Priest was no slouch. If the angle he had to take hadn't been so drastic, he might have made it because the DB never saw him coming.

For all of those who say “Well, Alex got us to the playoffs, and with the right breaks he could have...” are discounting how agonizing and predictable his outings in the playoffs were.

Just to drive this home, all of Alex Smith’s teams tended to have their seasons end by a simple formula in the playoffs. Play Cover 2, zone blitz Alex, and pound the Chiefs D by controlling TOP (with runs with additional blockers and quick passes/play actions) and that incarnation of the Chiefs honestly had no response for it. The fatal flaw of the Sutton defenses were that they were reliant on turnovers (usually through generating pressure) against pass heavy offenses and typically a bit weak against the run. That works in the regular season but always got exposed in the playoffs.

The most predictable outcome? Giving that Chiefs offense the ball late in the 4th and/or needing the gassed Chiefs defense to get a critical stop with under 2 minutes left in the game. The story ended the same way for (most) Chiefs playoff teams from 1995-2017.

I thought last year’s Super Bowl was basically the 2019 Chiefs against the 2015 Chiefs with a healthy Jamaal Charles & Justin Houston.. and the outcome played out pretty much exactly how the mid-2010’s Chiefs ended up in the playoffs.
