Not surprising after he trashed the team to the press. And can't say I blame him. He saved that teams otherwise miserable season and I don't think the organization or the fans gave a shit. While the hate may be strong on CP, he and Andy took a 2-14 team to 11-5 in 1 season. Was he a 49ers castoff? Yes, but better than any QB we had since Green, probably better. Did he win the big one? No, but at least we were in the playoffs 4 of the 5 seasons he was here. Most important, he knew he was history as soon as PMII's name was announced in the 2017 draft. But he still took him under his wing. That's class. Have a good life, Alex.

I'll always appreciate Kendall Fuller for his game sealing pick in the Super Bowl. He wasn't really what I thought he'd be for us here (although he might have had a spot at safety over slot corner), but I'll always remember and appreciate him for that play.

This is actually a pretty good idea. Even if Lawrence is week 1 starter, Smith would be a great guy to have in the QB room for TL (or whomever the Jags take). Mahomes and Kaepernick have both given high praise to Alex for helping them when they were young.

If he could fill time and get comfortable I think he'd be great...smart and likeable.

Here's their stats as a Chief. Maybe it's just me, but 50-26-0 is a better record than 48-40-0 and 102 TDs to 33 INTs beats 118 TDs to 85 INTs.

I'm not debating whether Smith or Green was the better QB, I'm just pointing out that maybe Green isn't the 3rd or 4th best QB the Chiefs ever had.

I dunno...basically across their careers with KC, they had identical TDs/game at 1.34, but Green's INT rate was almost 1/game, whereas Smith was .43/game. That's a lot of possessions Green was giving up for no more success in getting the ball into the end zone.

Why don't you look at the ****ing points their offenses scores and pound sand.

Trent threw 24 picks in '01, his worst INT season with us. He likely would have had more TD throws in his KC career, but Priest was such a monster in the red zone behind that all world line......

Happened just after I snapped this picture. All he had to do was not stare down Tony or maybe put some air under it. Nope. Tony R cuts inside, Tony G goes outside and the Houston defender steps right in front of Gonzalez and heads for the end zone. Priest almost caught him, which was impressive as hell.

I actually remember that play. I was shocked Priest almost ran him down.

Jamal Charles may have been the fastest RB the Chiefs have had but Priest was no slouch. If the angle he had to take hadn't been so drastic, he might have made it because the DB never saw him coming.

That basically describes 99.9% of QB’s to ever take a snap in the 101 year history of the NFL.

Bring him in as a QB coach if he wants to stay around football. He knows Reid's system better than nearly anyone.

For the record, I am not one of those.

I would like to have him as a coach too. He is a rock solid guy who would always do the right thing. He's smart, his body is just destroyed now.

For all of those who say “Well, Alex got us to the playoffs, and with the right breaks he could have...” are discounting how agonizing and predictable his outings in the playoffs were.

Just to drive this home, all of Alex Smith’s teams tended to have their seasons end by a simple formula in the playoffs. Play Cover 2, zone blitz Alex, and pound the Chiefs D by controlling TOP (with runs with additional blockers and quick passes/play actions) and that incarnation of the Chiefs honestly had no response for it. The fatal flaw of the Sutton defenses were that they were reliant on turnovers (usually through generating pressure) against pass heavy offenses and typically a bit weak against the run. That works in the regular season but always got exposed in the playoffs.

The most predictable outcome? Giving that Chiefs offense the ball late in the 4th and/or needing the gassed Chiefs defense to get a critical stop with under 2 minutes left in the game. The story ended the same way for (most) Chiefs playoff teams from 1995-2017.

I thought last year’s Super Bowl was basically the 2019 Chiefs against the 2015 Chiefs with a healthy Jamaal Charles & Justin Houston.. and the outcome played out pretty much exactly how the mid-2010’s Chiefs ended up in the playoffs.
