Treat what is causing it. Most common would be post nasal drainage. If you are healthy, you could use afrin for a day or two which would help. Nasal fluticason would help with allergic drainage.

Ibuprofen typically helps quite a bit.

I usually make a cup of hot tea, and add bourbon, lemon, honey.

Scoop up the mixture with the spoon
Add two drops of kerosene

Might seem strange, but Excedrin has always worked really well with sore throats for me. Doesn't for my wife, so results are hit and miss.
