Digital Underground is INCREDIBLY underrated. Sex Packets was a ****ing treasure and Shock was most of the people and played most of the instruments and produced. An absolute legend.

He was in Lawrence 25 years ago asking my friend who waited on him if he could find him cocaine. I'm guessing if you're asking random waiters for it, it was probably a problem.

Not saying that is why he died but it was the first thing I thought of

I have a friend who was cool with him for awhile. Apparently he was living out of a hotel and had a bad drug addiction.

RIP Shock G. This was my shit back in the 9th grade. Sex Packets got alot of play time, this one and Cypress Hill's Self titles. Alot of weed smoking and chillen to these 2 albums

Yep...he could have just ignored a random, troubled kid from out of town but no...he gave Pac a small dancing role on their tour, then allowed him to rap on their songs and a legend was born. Pac took off almost overnight and then got acting roles whilst recording his first album which Shock helped him with too. Really talented, and unique guy who is gone way too soon. Rip Shock G.

I would never doubt that an entertainer had a drug problem.. but I wouldn't assume so given your scenario.

1) I'd imagine he's not from Lawrence so he was probably out of town and didn't know where to find any.
2) Coke and other drugs are pretty common for people in the restaurant biz. You're already working late hours, drinking and shit, no random drug tests, etc.

I worked at a corporate restaurant chain by Disney back when I was in college and the number of customers who asked me for weed was insane.

I was a waiter and now work in the music (for film but still) industry so yeah I get that. But then again since I posted that his friends have come out and said he had a longtime drug problem. Anyway not to distract from the incredible influence Shock had. What a talent.
