BossChief 04-30-2021 02:01 PM

Low key GREAT signing.

staylor26 04-30-2021 02:02 PM

Yea I like this...

pugsnotdrugs19 04-30-2021 02:04 PM

My understanding from afar has been the injuries have kinda took their toll, but upgrade over Darwin still.

Kman34 04-30-2021 02:05 PM

Who??

Dante84 04-30-2021 02:06 PM

His highlights show off his ability to catch, and in particular, had some successful screen plays.

kc-nd 04-30-2021 02:07 PM

I remember when Georgia Southern came to the FargoDome for a playoff game against NDSU, this guy got the ball, went to the outside, turned upfield and with his speed, to the end zone. He was gone, no one was going to catch him.

Sofa King 04-30-2021 02:08 PM

Was really good with the Vikings. But he's been a hurt pos the last few years in San Fran.

Dante84 04-30-2021 02:09 PM

yep, he and Darwin can duke it out for RB3

RunKC 04-30-2021 02:09 PM

Me likey. 4.41 speed and production.

Dunerdr 04-30-2021 02:10 PM

OH GOD DAMN I LIKE! DADDY LIKE!

If he can stay healthy in a limited role this should be a killer signing.

Hammock Parties 04-30-2021 02:11 PM

Good football player. Perfect RB2.

The Franchise 04-30-2021 02:13 PM

I thought we were going to draft one in the second round.

carcosa 04-30-2021 02:13 PM

If this thread hits 1,000 posts the Chiefs will sign Jerick McKinnon let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOO

JohnnyHammersticks 04-30-2021 02:14 PM

Great high upside low downside signing. If this kid could ever stay healthy he could be a great pickup. Looked good when he was with the Vikes, couldn't stay healthy enough to get on the field for the niners. Barely been hit the last 3 years.

Well done Bleet Varnch!!

Perfect fit

Kiimo 04-30-2021 02:16 PM

Sure

Sassy Squatch 04-30-2021 02:18 PM

Doubt he contributes much of anything, but for a 3rd string RB you could do much worse.

Deberg_1990 04-30-2021 02:18 PM

The dicketh is broketh I’m afraid...

BigChiefFan 04-30-2021 02:20 PM

Darwin Thompson better up his game or he could be looking for a job.

Kman34 04-30-2021 02:24 PM

DeAndre Washington 2.0...

Easy 6 04-30-2021 02:26 PM

Couldn't hurt

Clyde Frog 04-30-2021 02:27 PM

Over/Under for how many times he gets signed/cut this season?

ToxSocks 04-30-2021 02:30 PM

I know the name. Can't say im familiar with the game.

DaneMcCloud 04-30-2021 02:31 PM

I can't figure why the Chiefs would cut Super Bowl star Damien Williams, only to turn around and sign another oft-injured, 29 year old running back but okay, I guess?

It seems like an odd signing.

That's because he's constantly injured.

The dude has 18 starts in 5 seasons and was out the 2018 and 2019 seasons due to injury.

Red Dawg 04-30-2021 02:34 PM

Good to have in camp but he may not make the cut. he's been hurt a lot.

Because McKinnon is likely signing a vet min deal where Williams made a couple mill.

RocKhawks 04-30-2021 02:39 PM

Damn, Sammy Watkins cousin. Haha, he was good when he was healthy though. Hope he doesn't hurt himself signing the papers though.

***Breaking News***

McKinnon was so happy to get a shot with the Chiefs that he started jumping up and down and tore both ACLs.

He was healthy and pretty damn good last year.

I like this signing, but I understand the concern

Wonder if they offered Bell something similar?

Yeah, but it's not like the Chiefs don't have that extra $1 million in cap space for a guy that could have easily been the Chiefs Super Bowl MVP in 2019.

I just think it's a strange signing.

Mecca 04-30-2021 02:48 PM

The Chiefs soured on Williams is all I can say, we tried to sign Gio Bernard before he went to Tampa.

gblowfish 04-30-2021 02:48 PM

So is Bell done? Did he retire? Did he sign somewhere with somebody?

He had 592 yards from scrimmage last year but I wouldn't expect much from him due to his age (29 years old in a few days) and his long injury history.

I'd rather see the Chiefs take a complimentary back in the 5th than take a chance on another broke dick but I guess that's on the table until Saturday afternoon.

I’d rather they sign an UDFA RB instead of spending a pick on one.

I would imagine they'll do that as well because every running back other than CEH is replaceable.

Nice signing. He's not starter material, but he's got some moves...

It was almost as weird as Shady being inactive from like Week 12 through the end of the 2019 postseason.

Low-risk vet acquisition who can be competent to good when called on. Health is the question. Played in WCO’s in Minnesota and SF.

Two of the seasons that McKinnon has missed were the same knee problem. If that issue has been cleared up and he passed his medical this could be a really great signing

Shady got on Andy's bad side somehow. Don't know what happened but he was basically a healthy scratch and it wasn't the fumble either. It was something behind closed doors or something.

Agreed, picks hardly seem worth it with how cheap solid RBs have become. This one however...doesn't exactly move the needle. Could a be a Carlos Hyde type that doesn't make it out of training camp.

Shady really showed Andy, with all that production in Tampa last year.

IIRC same ACL, and in preseason both years. It's why the niners had to get Coleman. They were excited to get him from the Vikings and it seemed like he was set for a breakout season but he kept tearing his ACL.

He looked good when he got on the field last season for the most part, but I think he even got dinged up a couple times in limited reps last year. Shifty and really fast. I started him in daily FF one week when Mostert and Coleman were out, even with teams loading the box against the Niners after JimmyG got hurt. He could rack up points in a ppr because he's a good receiver. Maybe the Chiefs can use him sparingly enough to keep him on the field for more than a few games. Good risk/reward if it's a cheap deal.

Kiimo 04-30-2021 04:03 PM

I don't think he tore it twice I think he tore it and the next year had to get a plasma injection on it

Jerick McKinnon is a good signing for KC. The former 3rd round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, might not make the team, but he provides competition for Darwin and Chiefs might come back to him if we have a RB injury.

His injury history really took place in 2018 (ACL tear, Grade 3) and 2019 (LCL Tear, Grade 3). Last year in 2020, he played entire season and he wasn't an injury problem before 2018.

He's 5-9, 205, ran a 4.41 forty, strong with 32 reps on bench and has hop with a 40.5 inch vertical and 11 foot broad jump.

Like many NFL players, he was a QB in high school, but he also played QB/RB at Georgia Southern. He had 2,867 yards rushing, 32 TDs, and 768 passing yards in 2012 and 2013, so no threat to Patrick.

In 2016 for Minnesota Vikings, he rushed for 539 yards, 2 TDs, 43 REC, 256 yards and 1 TD.

In 2017 for Vikings, he rushed for 570 yards, 3 TDs, 51 REC, 421 yards, and 2 TDs.

in 2018, 49ers liked him well enough to give him a 4 year $30 M contract but then he sat out two years with injury.

Last year for 49ers, he rushed for 319 yards, 5 TDs, 33 REC, 253 yards, and 1 TD.

Not able to find anything yet, but I am sure KC signed him to a very low cost contract.

It had nothing to do with his play on the field.

Something happened behind the scenes and Andy essentially benched him permanently. I don't really know exactly what it was, just that it was personal and wasn't about his performance on game days.

Brought in to keep the training staff sharp. With Watkins gone they were going to lose their edge.

Veach is 3 steps ahead.

The $150k was an advance on future earnings and opt-outs definitely affected each team's salary cap in 2020. The NFL did not pay for player opt-outs.
