Fortson to the IR

With the torn Achilles tendon - who takes his roster spot? Assuming Kelce, Bell and Gray the rest of the way....

Quote:

Unfortunately, it’s the worst-case scenario for Fortson, but there is some optimism with Hitchens.

“Jody Fortson tore his Achilles,” Reid said. “And (Anthony Hitchens) had an elbow, they’re going to MRI it tomorrow and we’ll see.”

A torn Achilles means that Fortson’s season will be over. He’ll finish the year with five receptions for 47 yards and two touchdowns on the season. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes spoke to Fortson after the game, saying he was in “good spirits.”

CJ SPILLER

Munson 10-17-2021 04:08 PM

Dammit. He was having a sneaky good season.

smithandrew051 10-17-2021 04:09 PM

At least he got a chance to show he belonged in the league before the injury. He’s young. Hopefully he can come back.

Hate it for him, and us... dude is a very unique player, damn sure hope they bring him back next year

Stinger 10-17-2021 04:11 PM

Baker fumbles and stays down

kcclone 10-17-2021 04:11 PM

That sucks. Kid was trending up.

siberian khatru 10-17-2021 04:11 PM

What a gut punch

Marcellus 10-17-2021 04:13 PM

Bad for him. I saw him go down on the start of his route and was like WTf?

Dude could have been a contributor down the stretch. Good luck man.

thabear04 10-17-2021 04:14 PM

Roll with what we have at TE now and hopefully Noah Gray can step in.

dannybcaitlyn 10-17-2021 04:16 PM

Its been six weeks on pup. Do they bring kyle long to the active roster. Remmer did ok but I see him more in a backuo role.

Long isn’t a tackle boss

Bring Schwartz in for a look?

At the start of the 2015 season, Long made the switch from guard to tackle. He started all 16 regular season games in 2015 and was selected to his third consecutive Pro Bowl.

TEX 10-17-2021 04:30 PM

Well, I figured that right when I saw it happen. Usually when somebody goes down like that after a non-contact situation, it's an achilles. Dang. He was coming around nicely.

Doesn't matter how long he's been on PUP. One more time ---LONG ISN"T COMING BACK!!!!!!

That said, I really hated to see Fortson to go down. I had high hopes for him.

Coochie liquor 10-17-2021 04:50 PM

With as beat up as Kelce looked today, this stings. If Kelce has to miss some time, I’m not sure Patrick has the trust in Grey. And obviously nobody is gonna do what Kelce does.

Maybe he should. It was obvious that Remmers isn't a starting T. For anyone. Got his shit pushed all day.

frozenchief 10-17-2021 04:52 PM

Maybe we can bring in a D-lineman. We’ve got enough TEs.

Phoneix 10-17-2021 04:55 PM

So the question remains now that we have an open roster spot, do we bring Fountain back to the active roster or maybe elevate Powell? Or do we use that spot to make the trade for Mack? Sign Gurley? I'm sure we won't stand pat with 51 players on the active roster.....just curious

I actually think Okafor, Danna, Nnadi, and Wharton did a fantastic job this game - heard Reed and Clark a few times as well - need to get Jones healthy

FloridaMan88 10-17-2021 05:08 PM

The condition of that field was shit.

Do we have any other injury updates?

Buehler445 10-17-2021 05:34 PM

Sucks. He was doing good work IMO. With Kelce dinged up, that's...not great.

As good of a time as any to point out how gimpy Kelce was and kept grinding. Dude is a tough son of a bitch.

Long is done, fini, lost cause, the end. I have no idea why anyone thinks otherwise.

Well, just how many WRs do you think we need? We already have 2 that hardly played today. We need LB help, we need DE help.

What is the trade status of any run-stuffing LB's?

Do you normally answer questions with a question? ;). Considering his position was on offense I assume they will fill it with an offensive player.

Hitchens to have an MRI tomorrow

InChiefsHeaven 10-17-2021 06:54 PM

I really feel for this guy. He's been through so much, then goes in this year and is looking legit...then goes out on IR with a non contact injury...how the **** do you rupture your Achilles anyway? I mean damn...

suzzer99 10-17-2021 06:57 PM

This sucks so bad.

When someone’s Achilles just goes like that, was it about to snap anyway? The play looked so innocuous. With ACLs a lot of times there’s some awkward movement. But with Achilles a lot of the time it seems like they just snap out of the blue.

ThyKingdomCome15 10-17-2021 06:58 PM

Nearly had three TD's in five games. Not bad for a small school UDFA who just sneaked on the roster. Hopefully he can come back strong next year.

pugsnotdrugs19 10-17-2021 08:44 PM

Hurts the team a bit but this is one of those that hurts just a little extra emotionally because of who it happened to. Kid was starting to get his feet under him with a role carved out.

dallaschiefsfan 10-17-2021 08:55 PM

Just saw that we have a TE on the practice squad (a Mark Vital)

lcarus 10-17-2021 08:59 PM

This really pissed me off. This dude fought so hard to make the team and waited patiently to get his shot in this offense and now hes done for the year because the stupid "Football Team" has a dogshit football field. Fix your turf. And pick a new name already. Assholes.

BossChief 10-17-2021 09:29 PM

And Ben Neimann lives.

No justice.

FedEx field is known to have one of the worst turfs in the NFL year in, year out. I don't know why the NFL owners allow hundred-million dollar rosters to play on substandard fields in 2021.

Simply Red 10-17-2021 10:12 PM

such a nice man too, great smile and he was having a blast. Very sad, we may have something w/ this guy if that damn thing heals before next season. I really like him and he's from a "rich in football" program.

We have 6 WRs on the roster now. Why would we bring in a 7th? Yes, I realize that's a question, but sometimes I wonder if people thought their remark through. Fortson is a TE. Hitchens got dinged up today. Jones is hurt. The priority is not another WR.

JPH83 10-18-2021 12:35 AM

Gutted for Forton,, honestly thought he looked like a proper TE and probably our TE2 in the making. Was blocking really well and catching everything that came his way. Really hope he comes back

Dunerdr 10-18-2021 07:47 AM

I was a Fortson doubter, but this is heartbreaking. The question is.. Should a guy like fountain make the switch? He's clearly just fringe NFL talent as a wideout.

bobhill 10-18-2021 09:42 AM

How about Jamie Collins

Yea who has never played college football. He was part of the Baylor Bears basketball team that won it all

btlook1 10-18-2021 10:10 AM

Where is Josh Gordon at? Put him at tight end on a few passing downs, he's got the size and lots of speed can out run a line backer I would hope!

JGTE#!!!!!!!

JakeF 10-18-2021 10:50 AM

:deevee: :deevee:

He looked like he was coming on, getting more and more looks.

This injury is a huge for Fortson and for the Chiefs. I'm glad he's young because Achilles injuries are so difficult.

PHOG 10-18-2021 10:54 AM

That's too bad. Looked like he was just getting comfortable in the O.

At 6-1 and 212, that's a stretch. Those guys are usually in the 6-4/5 range and at least 240. Hoping Fortson can come back because he showed real promise. He made a beautiful catch yesterday.

JPH83 10-18-2021 01:27 PM

It wasn't on a lot of snaps but PFF had him on something like a 78 grade, about the fifth highest on the offensive side for us, I think. I'm keeping everything crossed for him. Aside from the obvious graft and talent he seemed like a really positive influence.

FlaChief58 10-18-2021 01:32 PM

Hopefully he'll make a full recovery and be back next year. Everyone loves an underdog story
