There are a couple of defenders I'd get rid of first.

So I guess that means they didn't use any of their 'protected' slots on him? I wonder how that works going forward. I don't think they can get him back on the PS squad now unless they pass him back through waivers.

But there's also that 'rolling' call up thing teams can presently do with their practice squad where they can call someone up and then send them back down a couple times/yr.

I've really lost track of how the PS works these days.

They must see him in the Henne role in the future. But i wonder who is so important on the practice squad that they couldnt just protect him?

Renegade 11-16-2021 10:32 AM

Called up to be on inactive on Sunday

I had read earlier in the year they were protecting him like every week. But maybe they stopped.

Discuss Thrower 11-16-2021 10:54 AM

So as Mahomes : Brady, Buchele : Brian Hoyer?

Sassy Squatch 11-16-2021 10:57 AM

Cardinals were trying to sign him.

Deberg_1990 11-16-2021 11:21 AM

Nice. Chiefs must really like him. Henne is 36 now.

chiefzilla1501 11-16-2021 11:43 AM

Really appreciate what Henne did for us against Cleveland. But let's be realistic. He held on to a huge lead and that was about it. I'm still surprised we didn't hold on to Matt Moore as I trusted him more as a guy who can win a game in a pinch.

The Franchise 11-16-2021 11:54 AM

Maybe there was someone else they wanted to protect and figured it was easier to just bring this kid up to the roster instead of protecting him each week.

ChiefsCountry 11-16-2021 12:00 PM

Can't wait until final week of the season when Buechele lights up that team. Some dumb team, ie like the Chiefs used to be, will trade a first round pick for him. Rinse and repeat the process during the Mahomes era.

Me too. I was pretty surprised, as Moore's style was more in the Mahomes type wheelhouse whereas Henne is more old school, leadfoot stand in the pocket kind of thing. They didn't really change much when Moore went in; he just isn't Mahomes, but then nobody is.

Also surprised as bad as overall QB play is in the NFL that nobody picked Moore up. He was certainly better than like the bottom 1/3rd of starters.

Anyway.

I've been wondering if they'd start the develop and flip for picks thing with developmental QB's like Reid did so much of in Philly.

This was my first thought - someone was trying to sign him off our PS and we just protected him.

We can protect 4 each week and we've only protected a couple over the last couple of weeks. Didn't they change the rule about how many guys could be active each week if 1 was the 3rd string QB and 1 was an 8th O-lineman? Perhaps Henne is injured/COVID. The only caveat is that if we try to put him back on the PS, he has to clear waivers.

oldman 11-16-2021 01:32 PM

I do see that Remmers was placed on IR, but it might just be the short-term one.

Might be a respect thing. If another team wants to roster him, we should probably show the same respect, especially if we want to sign other guys similarly in the future.

Well, I mean, seeing as how he’s been “figured out” by the league and all. Time to restock the QB room.

Wilson8 11-16-2021 07:04 PM

The Chiefs were able to sign CFA Shane Buechele last year after the draft. KC gave him $165,000 guaranteed to sign, so they felt he had pretty good potential as an NFL QB. Shane actually had 5 years in college with 3 seasons at Texas (23 games), starting as a freshman and then having two seasons at SMU. His best season was his first year at SMU where he threw for 34 TDs, 3,929 yards, 10 interceptions in 13 games.

They did not want the Arizona Cardinals to have him and Kansas City already had an open slot with the Mike Remmers being put on IR.

JakeF 11-16-2021 07:45 PM

More about wanting to **** the Cardinals than us.

This makes so much sense with teams like the cards looking for qbs.

Does he have to clear waivers to go back?

srvy 11-16-2021 11:06 PM

Whatever happened to that coach's son kid we had in camp for a minute a few years back?

Or even that kid in camp along with Buechele that looked good early then sputtered?

Deberg_1990 11-16-2021 11:09 PM

The Cards should sign ‘The Midnight Hour’

I thought the kid from a few years ago was playing arena league but i could be wrong.

oldman 11-17-2021 08:42 AM

We might get a better picture of the future if Henne sits on the bench and the kid goes in the next time it's garbage time. Nothing against Chad, I just would like to see a younger backup and someone more like PMII.

Otter 11-17-2021 08:51 AM

Strategic move to prevent him being signed away and Chad approaching announcer age.

Not much to see.

I thought they should keep Buechele as our #2 from the very beginning. It's time to get a younger guy as our Backup. Buechele is a career backup type guy anyway. Chase Daniel part 2, come on down.
