Denver Broncos open game with 10 men in formation in tribute to late WR DT
Classy.
DENVER -- The Broncos lined up with 10 players in the formation on their first play from scrimmage Sunday in their game against the Detroit Lions to honor former wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, who was found dead this week at age 33. On a first-and-10 from the Denver 25-yard line to open the game, the 10 players stood motionless and waited for the play clock to wind all the way down. They were assessed a delay-of-game penalty that the Lions quickly declined. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...maryius-thomas |
Not gonna lie, thats kinda cool... and good on Detroit for being classy

Hated playing against Thomas, but he was a good player. Very cool, even for Dungver. RIP.

Cool tribute.
Well done, Donks. |
nice tribute. Glad the Lions had some class and didn't accept, that would have been pretty shitty.
|
Classy. Good thing they weren't playing New England. I have a feeling Belichick would have accepted the penalty.
|
Good move. Thomas was a great football player and an even better person from what I’ve read.
|
The logic of fielding fewer than 11 players on offense drawing a foul astounds me. Good tribute though.

Tip of the hat to both teams.

Was going off the reddit post phrased as if 10 men incurred a DoG penalty.

Great gesture by Denver.
They only need 10 players to beat Lions |

Wow.
Well done Denver and Detroit. |
Nicely done

It was a weird weekend... watching all of the tributes and listening/reading the comments from those that spoke about DT. I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that he was only 33. Such a short career really, but obviously a big impact to so many.

Classy move by both teams. But why did the refs even call the penalty if they knew what was going on? Symbolic I guess?

Class move, all around. RIP DT

I bet the league doesn't allow this going forward. You'll have teams start doing things as tributes to a retiring player or a longtime trainer who's quitting to become a veterinarian or a season ticket holder who's been to every game since 1979.
I think this is a well-meaning gesture by a couple of inexperienced coaches. |
Massive respect for the way the Broncos, their fans, and Justin Simmons, handled it yesterday.

Detroit was in on what was happening and had already decided to decline the penalty. Nice to see everyone stop playing football for this.
