RIP 2021 NFL Season

140 players on COVID list

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/n...on-covid-list/

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to plague the NFL. Since the start of last week, 213 players have tested positive for COVID-19, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. That's almost 10% of the league.

The 2021 NFL season is DOOOOOOOOOOOMED!!!!!!

P.S. I'm going to bed. I will read all my hate mail in the morning.

Rain Man 12-22-2021 12:48 AM

Nah, there's money involved. If the players have to play on mobile ventilators, the league will make it happen.

KC_Connection 12-22-2021 01:03 AM

The NFL is going to push on with whatever is left to throw out there these next few weeks. I wouldn't worry about any kind of shutdown.

Hammock Parties 12-22-2021 01:07 AM

It's not a plague. Just ****ing end testing.

Red Dawg 12-22-2021 03:31 AM

No chance in hell but the champ will look like a paper champ. Too many teams have lost games from players being on covid.

Skyy God 12-22-2021 04:26 AM

They’ve scaled back testing for asymptomatic players. Logical next step would be to allow them to play if positive but asymptomatic.

Omicron is rampant but pretty mild.

BWillie 12-22-2021 04:52 AM

I just don't think they are going to make it. Pray for them.

jjchieffan 12-22-2021 07:14 AM

They screwed up when they made the schedule. They should have had the 17th game, i.e. the KC vs GB game scheduled for the end of the season. Then, they could simply cancel that game for every team and move games that have an abundance of players out into that spot. But, they wanted the most impactful games at the end of the season, so they didn't do it. Now, here we are, teams jockeying for position, or just to get into the playoffs, and they're going into games short 15-20% or more of they're roster. That is beyond stupid.

In a sane society, people would continue without issue. But in a society that thinks this variant is smallpox and the plague combined (two diseases that actually killed off young people like crazy), we get panic.

Trust the science!

As long as they closely monitor the pressure in Brady's tires I'm okay with it.

Camaro 12-22-2021 02:03 PM

Mass non compliance is the only way to end it.

FloridaMan88 12-22-2021 02:08 PM

Lamar Jackson was sick enough with a non-COVID illness to miss the Bears game last month, and yet that requires no additional quarantine/transmission mitigation measures and meanwhile players who are asymptomatic with COVID are being put through arbitrary restrictions/thresholds to return to play.

It’s ridiculous.

bad link or the deleted the article?

Also, as many have said, too much money involved and the league doesn't give a **** about a single one of them so they will force them to play in coffins if they have to

If it got bad you could just pause the season for a week. Super Bowl is going to be messed up anyway. They need to move it out of LA ASAP

Rimmers on Covid list, thought he was injured

TEX 12-22-2021 04:40 PM

They ought to stop the season now, get teams healthy and roll with the playoffs in 24 days as scheduled. Those 7 teams in each conference who currently hold playoff spots are in.

That is never going to happen it would cost them too much money on a lot of different fronts. It would also alienate way too many fans.

I would be good with that, too. Or just delay the games coming up a week or two.

BigRedChief 12-22-2021 05:41 PM

NFLPA prez said today that the NFL wanted to cancel the 3 games this week. And not pay the players.

If the NFL was really concerned about health, why allow fans in the stadiums?

Kiimo 12-22-2021 05:43 PM

It isn't surprising to anybody that the NFL cares about the cash above all else

this keeps going like this, no way Cali allows 80K in a stadium and all the packed parties to occur. It sucked here last year. They only had an outdoor thing. We had to have our SB party at an outdoor minor league stadium.

Regardless of the rhetoric, it all comes down to the hospitals filling up. In a sane society we’d have 95% vaxxed, the hospitals would be under control and we would be going on with our lives.

The hospitals are full? I missed that memo.

suzzer99 12-22-2021 06:05 PM

In some places yeah. People can’t get elective treatment. Having to shop all over for a bed for some really important procedure. Instances have been posted in the covid thread here and I’ve seen plenty elsewhere.

Because all those vaxxed people sure aren't getting sick. :banghead:

ThyKingdomCome15 12-22-2021 07:13 PM

The only problem is players who aren't even sick are testing positive. So much less testing is needed. Too easy.

People have been packing stadiums/arenas… outdoors and indoors for months now and there have been no significant outbreak to-date linked to attendance at sporting events, including with Omicon.

Well good news this far is hospitalization rates are still way down with this variant. There was a study (meta ofc) showed that hospitalization with this variant was 80% less than even Delta.

Let hope that news is true and can be replicated in more hard data.

The problem is.. there is no data to support the idea that ANY measure you take at this point is going to slow the spread of Omicron. You are just pissing in the wind to make yourself "feel" in control. (not "YOU" in particular but it sounds pretentious to say "oneself")

Yeah I never said anything about stopping the spread of Omicron. My point is that if hospitals stop filling, all the preventative measures that annoy all of us will stop.

In the reddest state or the bluest state - ultimately if the hospitals got stressed, measures were taken - if not by the state, then by the country or city. All the rest was just rhetoric on both sides.

Even the last person on earth should by now know that the covid vaccine does not prevent infection for a long time, it’s no surprise that countries like Israel plan to introduce a 4th booster shot. The reason for this madness is that western countries over the last 30-40 years have reduced massively the workforce in the health sector, reduced salaries and depend heavily on foreign workers for doing the job in e.g. nursing homes. We would not have these kind of development with better health care infrastructure.
