Daylight Savings for good?

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-...23-2022-03-15/

BWillie 03-15-2022 01:04 PM

Noo the night time is the right time.

htismaqe 03-15-2022 01:07 PM

The time shifts are no longer needed. It's time to just settle - they don't have to settle on DST but just stop with the shifts.

Indian Chief 03-15-2022 01:07 PM

Yes, but I'm failing to see why it has to wait until next year. That means we will go back again in the fall and forward again next spring. The article references airlines and broadcasters. Maybe someone in those industries can clue me in.

displacedinMN 03-15-2022 01:08 PM

no.

I can give reasons when I get home.

backinblack 03-15-2022 01:08 PM

stumppy 03-15-2022 01:08 PM

Screw that. This is the best time.

ptlyon 03-15-2022 01:10 PM

****s with me for about a week

chiefforlife 03-15-2022 01:11 PM

YES!!

I hate when it gets dark at 4:30/5:00. MORE daylight please!

I have seen many reasons why we switch back and forth but none of them are worth doing it.

I would LOVE it to stay!

blake5676 03-15-2022 01:13 PM

My brain is struggling with this right. So....if it passes, would the permanent time be what we have now or what we have in Nov/Dec?

Jewish Rabbi 03-15-2022 01:13 PM

Bill how bout I beat the **** out of you and we call it a day

ChiefBlueCFC 03-15-2022 01:13 PM

We should have daylight savings every week. That way we really save some daylight

ptlyon 03-15-2022 01:14 PM

Or at least monthly

It would be what we have right now so in December instead of it being dark at 5pm it would be dark at 6pm

AdolfOliverBush 03-15-2022 01:19 PM

It's about time. Changing the clocks was always a dumb concept.

Imon Yourside 03-15-2022 01:20 PM

Yes please leave it as it is now. I mean permanent Spring Forward!

Donger 03-15-2022 01:21 PM

It doesn't exist.

Looking at my Alegent app, you can book into November. They would have to do some modifications I would imagine for all airlines.

And maybe that is already programmed in the scheduling.

I'd prefer to have the extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day.

It will suck in the winter waiting until 8:30 for the sun to come up.

Probably to give people time to update software, etc. that would have shifted on it's own.

Day drinking is WAY better.

When the sun goes down it's time to chill out. Unless I'm on vacation.

Yeah, I bet we'll miss aspects of it if we get rid of it. But overall, I'd rather not deal with shifting time. It wipes me out for a few days twice a year.

displacedinMN 03-15-2022 03:54 PM

MPLS

Now with partial DST
June 21 Sunrise 4:50 Sunset 9:03
Dec 21 Sunrise 7:40 Sunset 4:40

without permanent DST
June 21 Sunrise 3:47 Sunset 8:03
Dec 21 Sunrise 7:40 Sunset 4:40

With Permanent DST
June 21 Sunrise 3:47 Sunset 8:03
Dec 21 Sunrise 8:40 Sunset 5:40

Granted, no plan is perfect. Somewhere there is a bad time. But do you want kids going to school when it is dark?

Now we shift 2x a year, but many do that anyway when they vacation.
If states are allowed to make their own rules, then someone could have 5 time changes by driving from Minn to texas. Talk about stupid.

Russia wants to change from 12 time zones to 5. There is a reason there is 24 zones.

I know someone on another forum that tried to NOT observe DST. It lasted about a week. It was too hard adjusting to everyone else that changed.

If you are smart, it takes about 3 days to adjust. Drink water. Take a nap or 3. Get over it pussies.

Next people will only allow vasectomies during NCAA weekend so they can "rest"

Okay. And yes, I've read that before. It would be interesting to see how many of those people rarely travel to other time zones, even within our own country.

A few years ago, old school district moved the elementary kids to the first bus run and starts school at 7:40.

If this passes, those kids will go to school in the dark and so will the second run of the HS kids.

I warned them. No one listened.

I mean the one argument for that I've seen that makes sense is it's better to have all the kids getting out of school before the commuting rush hour starts. Thought is to have all the kids home and not walking home or countless buses rolling around while all the adults are trying to get home too.

Maybe we can just push the whole day to start later I don't know. Would kind of suck to get home from work at 8 pm.

There’s a lot of negative health effects of a yearly-scheduled change to circadian rhythm, and the elderly seem to be increasingly susceptible to health issues from circadian rhythm changes.

In other words, we have an issue here that’s not only screwing with the old farts in Congress but also their most consistent voting base, that already took a big hit with that virus thingy earlier.
