Car-nal Desires: Round 3, Heat 2
 

Welcome to Round 3! We'll have seven heats in this round. The top two from each heat will move forward, and the top two third-place cars will advance to reduce us a field of 16. (The top third place cars will be identified as those that were closest in percent to the second place car.)

We are in Round 2, where we winnow the contestants from 42 vehicles to 28 vehicles.

Recall the rules below. (Rule #5 was modified slightly from the nomination thread.)

1. This vehicle will be yours at no purchase cost.
2. You will keep your current vehicles, so no need to worry about fitting a baby seat in it or being able to haul mulch.
3. You're responsible for parking it.
4. You pay for gas or electricity.
5. Insurance and maintenance up to $3,000 per month is free to you. You cover the next $1,000 if the expenses are higher, and then after that the expenses are covered. So for a high-end vehicle you'll cover a max of $1,000 per month.
6. The vehicle must be street-legal.
7. The vehicle must actually exist. It cannot be a cartoon or concept drawing. However, it can be a production vehicle, a concept vehicle, a custom vehicle, or anything else that is real.
8. The vehicle being nominated is the exact vehicle shown. You cannot change the color, the interior, the engine size, etc.
9. You cannot use the vehicle to make money. It's only for your personal use.
10. You cannot sell the vehicle.
11. Any type of street-legal vehicle is allowed. You can nominate a car, a truck, a minivan, an RV, a semi-truck, a motorcyle, a classic car, a school bus, whatever. As long as it meets the rules above, it's eligible.

Hemi Cuda & Mustang. But all 4 would be fine.

Yep, same here. There's not a bad candidate in the bunch, but those two stand out.

Boss and Hemi Cuda were easy picks this round.

That Mustang is my dream car. Sooo sexy. I think it's a final four candidate.

As a minor side story, a cousin of mine got a Mach I Mustang (probably a 1971) for his first car. It was a very nice car. He's a car-crazy kind of guy, so he hangs out exclusively with other car guys. Over the years, when he's asked about his first car, it has morphed from the Mach I to a Boss 429, which I guess he thinks gives him more credibility. But I know 100 percent that he never owned a 429 and that it was a Mach I. It annoys me and I've been tempted to call him out on it, because it's a stupid lie that he says in front of people like me who know that it's a lie. I haven't called him out on it because I presume he would lose face with these people he's trying to impress and I don't see him often enough to care. But Dear Abby, should I at some point innocently say something like, "You had a Boss 429 before you had that nice Mach I? I thought the Mach I was your first car."

Heh. You should see what we're doing to this (mostly original) '69 Mach 1 390. Gorgeous car, blue with black stripes etc.

Lets just say....that car is getting reeeeal familiar with our Miller Plasma Cutter....

Also, i'd like to go on record and say that big blocks in classic mustangs are full blown aids. Seriously. **** big blocks.

Oh man - just look down the lateral line on that thing (long axis; whatever you wanna call it).

The shoulders match the hips, man. Those curves are the point.

It's just damn near the height of vehicle design. Lord that thing is stunning.

Have you seen Heat 1? I think there's a software problem or something, because there's no way that anniversary Countach can be losing.

The Countach is a hideous piece of nostalgia that would get smoked by an upscale Camry these days.

EDIT: Holy cow, in THAT heat? Of course it's losing. It should get WAXED. That's a unicorn, arguably the most influential car of all-time and then peak olde time nazi cruiser.

C'mon - those are 3 absolute maulers. The countach shouldn't have a prayer in that heat.

I'm not a Chrysler fan, having owned 2 POS of theirs. Therefore, it's the Mustang and Ferrari for me.
