Car-nal Desires: Round 5, Heat 3
We're in the Elite 8! From here on out, it's single-elimination vehicle versus vehicle. Four heats in this thread.
PICK ONE. 1969 Pontiac GTO Ram Air IV Convertible https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/show...4&postcount=20 1966 CSX3015 Shelby Super Snake Cobra https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/show...7&postcount=67 Recall the rules below. (Rule #5 was modified slightly from the nomination thread.) 1. This vehicle will be yours at no purchase cost. 2. You will keep your current vehicles, so no need to worry about fitting a baby seat in it or being able to haul mulch. 3. You're responsible for parking it. 4. You pay for gas or electricity. 5. Insurance and maintenance up to $3,000 per month is free to you. You cover the next $1,000 if the expenses are higher, and then after that the expenses are covered. So for a high-end vehicle you'll cover a max of $1,000 per month. 6. The vehicle must be street-legal. 7. The vehicle must actually exist. It cannot be a cartoon or concept drawing. However, it can be a production vehicle, a concept vehicle, a custom vehicle, or anything else that is real. 8. The vehicle being nominated is the exact vehicle shown. You cannot change the color, the interior, the engine size, etc. 9. You cannot use the vehicle to make money. It's only for your personal use. 10. You cannot sell the vehicle. 11. Any type of street-legal vehicle is allowed. You can nominate a car, a truck, a minivan, an RV, a semi-truck, a motorcyle, a classic car, a school bus, whatever. As long as it meets the rules above, it's eligible. |

The Cobra has been in my top 3 since this tournament started. Love that car.
|
The Cobra is awesome, but I'm not paying $1,000 a month out of pocket to cover insurance on it. The GTO's not my true dream car, but it's nice and under the rules it's free. I'll go GTO.
|
The '69 GTO was one of the most fun cars I've ever driven. Fast, sleek, handled well, and had plenty of room.

I won't understand a single vote for the GTO in this one. Unless you got your first pussy in the back of one and are nostalgic about that sort of thing. |
Shelby. And it’s not close. And I’m a sucker for the GTO
|
GTO. I prefer to cruise comfortable then run around in an overpowered, short wheel base, no suspension having, Go-Cart death trap.
|
No traction, no suspension travel and a power to weight ratio that will surely put most drivers into a ditch.
Nah im good off that. Ive repaired enough, and talked to enough owners to kill any desire for one of those things. |

As for the wheelbase, the SS has a 90 inch wheelbase on a 156 inch car; wheelbase is roughly 58% of the vehicle length. And at 90 inches long vs. 68 inches wide, it's roughly 1/3 longer than it is wide. The GTO has a 112 inch wheelbase on a 201 inch car; 56% of the vehicle's length. And at 75 inches wide vs. 201 inches long, being 50% longer than it is wide gives it worse stability while cornering. But yes, 770 horses shoved into a 1 ton vehicle is a tad more powerful than you absolutely need for merging at highway speeds. And THAT sir, is what makes this a runaway winner here. |

Enough power to have fun with, but tame enough to just cruuuiiiise. Blunt in my hand, woman in the other, top down and soaking in the SoCal sun. Compared to an uncomfortable, cramped Go-Kart that'll tear your ****ing head off if you're not too careful. That Cobra is a CHORE to drive compared to the GTO. |

That's all i can say to you, my man. I'm not denying that the Cobra is a much more performance oriented car with performance oriented suspension. But the short wheel base and lack of travel that's inherent in these make for a rough ride for a street driven car. My stance is simple: The GTO you can cruise with. The Cobra is a chore. The cobra wants to kill you. Imma check to see if i have any pics of the insurance jobs ive done on these wrecked Cobras. One of them, the dude lost control on the freeway when switching gears, put the thing into the center divide.... |

Whereas if I take the GTO, I'll never have the Shelby option again. If I take the Shelby - well lord, that GTO is fungible, man. I can buy one of those with the payment if I decide to take my truck to 9 years instead of selling it at 5. Choosing the GTO (and a slew of other cars in this thing) is an either/or proposition. Choosing the Shelby is BOTH. Or the Shelby and some other really nice looking $30K drivers car with a big loud engine. |
LMAO
This thread got me busting out this gigantic 1TB HD from like 2006 trying to find pics of these Cobras we did hahahaha. |
The GTO was my nomination and I have voted for it every round.
Except this one. That Cobra is a special vehicle. |
Holy shit i actually managed to find some pics....trip down memory lane...

So what you're saying is that after a little paint and fiberglass it's good as new.
What's the big deal? |
