Why does the NFL still give some teams an extra week of training camp?
Because of the HOF game?
That's a really stupid reason, as is having the teams in the HOF game play an entire extra preseason game. Make the HOF game a singular preseason game on its own night to start the preseason schedule, then get the rest of the teams done over the Fri-Sat-Sun. Hell, or cram them all in on Sat-Sun. Or just Sunday. Doesn't really matter. Just have the same number of training camp practices and the same number of practice hours for all teams. Does that extra week of practice really matter to the fate of an NFL team? No, you're not going to go from being bad to being good with a handful of extra practices, but that's not the point. The ****ing HOF Game is too silly of a reason to not provide each team with equal offseason practice hours, especially since a tiny logistical schedule switch would be all that is required to make it happen. |
Money. Wonder if the HOF game has a different ad rate.

So you don't think it's fair that two teams get an extra week of practice...which doesn't actually make any difference to either team?

Hello

If it doesn't make a difference, why care?

It makes SOME difference. It’s tiny, but those two HOF teams have something the rest of the league does not. Why do that? |

The games has been played nearly every year since 1962, are there any relevant analytics?
|
Why is the HOF game a thing? It's the worst of the worst pre season games. They should make a HOF game like the first thursday night game between two original teams.

I remember when the Chiefs played the Packers (I think?) in the HOF game back in like 2002, or 2003 and being excited that we got an extra game. Pretty sure no one of any type of value played

It's a little weird that you and Carr are staunch defenders of keeping the schedule this way, where the NFL has changed other far more insignificant shit for much less. Why? Some stupid sense of tradition? Are you also a blowhard about the Lions always playing on Thanksgiving, too? |
Ohio usually needs the action

Hardly. I just don't see the big deal about it. You admitted yourself that it is basically meaningless. If they want to change it, so be it. I just find it strange to want to change something that doesn't seem to matter. As by your own admission. I am fine with the Lions on Thanksgiving because they brokered the contract with NBC to call the games. They earned it. |

The idea should be that every team gets equal footing as much as possible, and from there, their individual roster moves, coaching, luck, etc. determine the best teams. It's an obvious, simple solution. Why wouldn't the NFL do this? |
