What was your favorite regular season game as a Chiefs fan?

For me it was probably the Duane Rudd helmet throw. That season was a wild ride but that solidified it's not over till it's over.

TLO 08-27-2022 01:03 PM

The Ravens game a few years back. The one where Mahomes threw across his body downfield 50 yards to Tyreek Hill.

God damn what a throw.

jjchieffan 08-27-2022 01:10 PM

Mine is still the MNF game where Montana beat Elway at Pile High. Ravens game a couple of years ago is a close second.

smithandrew051 08-27-2022 01:14 PM

On the road against Denver in 2015.

This is when we finally got back over the hump against Denver. We held Manning to a 0 passer rating and got him benched, after beating the shit out of him.

Yeah, Denver won the Super Bowl that year, but that game (to me) is when we turned the corner as a franchise.

The path was clear from there to win out, get our first playoff win in forever, and then, take back the Division the following year.

We haven’t looked back since.

1997 vs Denver. Pete Stoyanovich with the 54 yard FG as time expired
1997 vs San Francisco. 44-9 drubbing
1998 vs Seattle. The Sunday night monsoon game
2000 vs St. Louis. 54-34 win
2003 vs Green Bay. OT win in Lambeau
2016 vs Denver. OT game where Santos hit two uprights as time expired.

I'd probably pick the 1997 game against Denver first.

DTHOF 08-27-2022 01:16 PM

What was your favorite regular season game as a Chiefs fan?

Montana beating horse face on Monday night. Elway thought he had it in the bag with just under two minutes left then the look on his face when Montana threw the game winner was priceless.

I have several, but given the significance of the game, and the win at the time, Stoyanovich’s 54 yard fg to beat Denver in 97. Still think we go to the Super Bowl if we stick with Gannon in the rematch a few weeks later.

This game - because I was there. My uncle and cousin left when SD went up by 7 with a minute left and no TOs. My friend and I stayed.

Bono threw it to Derrick Walker for the tying TD, and Vanover got this punt return TD in OT to win it - both in our end zone, club level - first row. When Vanover scored everyone in our section was hugging everyone else - didn't matter if you knew the person or not.

My uncle and cousin heard it sitting in their car waiting to get out of the stadium. Years later they still refused to talk about it.

Bowser 08-27-2022 01:26 PM

The ref running a pick on Tim Brown as James Hasty scored on a pick six in OT to win the game was pretty sweet.

My second choice would be this game. So satisfying crushing the Raiders' souls when they finally thought they were going to win one.

Probably the grand reopening of Arrowhead in 2010. Went to the Royals game beforehand then the Chiefs game. Unexpected rainstorm so everyone was soaked. Dexter McCluster returning that punt. Goal line stand at the end.

Eric Berry pick 2 Falcons game as I was in attendance. Game fell on the last day of my florida holiday I got a flight from Orlando to Atlanta on spirit Airlines and sat randomly next to a fellow Brit who was a falcons fan, an amazing crazy game and an end to a great holiday.

My wife and I were at that game. It was ****in crazy. And afterwards the cops had a big dui checkpoint right outside the stadium. Instead of driving north, we headed east on 70 and drove through Columbia on the way home. Still got stopped by mhpd south of moberly for speeding. Cop asked me where we’d been and what was in my cooler, then sent me on my way. Things were a little easier back then.

2003 vs. Denver. I was at the game and had fantastic lower level seats. That was the game where Hall had the punt return touchdown to seal it. Loudest I’ve ever heard the place. I thought the concrete was going to explode.

RunKC 08-27-2022 02:34 PM

Pre Mahomes:

-Stoyanovich FG win Denver
-Montana win in Denver
-GB comeback 2003
-8 TD Vick game at Arrowhead
-Charles 5 TD game over Raiders
-Chiefs beat 13-0 Packers
-Montana revenge game vs 49ers

Mahomes era:

-Pretty much all of them. Even losing like the Rams was a hell of an entertaing game

In my mind, the ugliest win ranks above the prettiest loss.

Was it DT's six-sack game where Leslie O'Neal destroyed Jeff George? Or was that a different game? The Leslie O'Neal hit is one of most memorable Chiefs plays ever in my mind. I'm not sure I've ever seen another hit that hard.

Bump 08-27-2022 04:08 PM

last year had an all timer. The Chargers with Kelce's walk off in OT

There was some from the 90's that I remember quite fondly, like Elvis Grbac to Andre Rison to close out a monday night game vs the raiders.

That didn't take much scrolling, lol.

Hell yeah. I remember Donkway all happy on the sidelines and then seeing his face when Montana moved the O down the field and scored.

I was so happy at the time for scoring a 49er QB, lol.

My excitement for drafting a top 10 QB, (Homie) was beyond belief, lol. It was the first thing I said to Clark in Seattle. "Thanks for drafting a 1st rd qb, lol."

Packfan12 08-27-2022 04:16 PM

I remember you guys beat us in 1996 the year we won the SB in Arrowhead.

Dunerdr 08-27-2022 04:31 PM

It’s a tie for me. I was at the game where we mauled Brady and the pats on TNF the stadium was absolutely electric. I believe it was like 54-14 or something when we set the noise record. That was by far the best regular season atmosphere.

My favorite actual game didn’t go so smooth. Kc vs Sea, marshawn was a monster, Russ was hot, the hawks were a force. But great players step up. Jamal Charles carried that offense, the defense had a ridiculous amount of 4th and short stops and Andy masterfully called plays that had jamaal cutting through the legion of boom like a knife through butter.

Baby Lee 08-27-2022 04:32 PM

33-6

Spoiler!

Jamie 08-27-2022 04:43 PM

The first thing that came to mind was Jamaal's 5 TD game vs the Raiders. I think it was Andy's first season here, Jamaal just torched them on screen passes. It was called the Jamaalocaust by fantasy football players, because it was late in the season and ****ed up everybody's fantasy playoffs.

No offense, great thread idea.... but feel like this should be a Rain Man thing. A nomination thread followed by a tournament.

A lot of the early/mid-90s games have faded a good amount.

- Mile High Miracle
- Saints @ Arrowhead at the end of the 1997 season (game had zero impact, it was ****ing cold and rainy, but was my first Arrowhead experience)
- Seahawks MNF in 2000... first prime time game at Arrowhead.
- 2003, Dante Hall game vs Denver
- 2003, Kennison at Lambeau
- 2003, 38-5 vs Bills... SNF and the only game I've attended with my dad.

- 2021, @Chargers

Wallcrawler 08-27-2022 05:34 PM

James Hasty pick 6 in OT, after a Marcus Allen fumble against his former team really put us in hot water. In that previous off-season, the Chiefs and Raiders both were bidding for Hasty. Marty kisses Hasty's forehead after he scored the winning td, saying "If he knew you were gonna do that to them, AL Davis would've offered you a helluva lot more money."

I can still hear the call by Marv Albert.

Hostetler......INTERCEPTED! PICKED OFF BY HASTY! JAMES HASTY! WITH HOSTETLER BACK.......Hasty going just short....AH HE'S IN!! HE'S IN FOR THE WINNING TOUCHDOWN!!!

I skew to games I have been too.

The MNF rain game against the chargers on Halloween

MNF game where Andy Studebaker recovered Rivers fumble at the last second aka Phillip Rivers "WORST DAY EVER"

Record setting crowd game against the Pats, when Hussain Abdullah intercepted Brady the ****ing stadium almost came down

Mahomes magic scramble game against the Titans in the playoffs

Mahomes magic comeback game against the Texans in the playoffs

edit: i got hyped up and named playoff games but I am going to leave them for posterity.

KChiefs1 08-27-2022 07:00 PM

1969 Chiefs @ Jets - Lenny to Otis for three td’s to beat the defending world champs on their home field. Three HOF’s intercepting Broadway Joe was fun too. Watched it at my uncles house with probably 15 other family members which are all mostly gone now. It was the weekend before Thanksgiving so it was a good day had by all. Still memorable.

1970 - The World Champion Chiefs first appearance on MNF @ the Baltimore Colts. It was so cool to see them during a Monday night! What a concept! Loved watching Bobby Bell almost kill Unitas. [emoji16]

1971 - Chiefs vs the Redskins. Still what I call the greatest catch I’ve ever seen by Otis Taylor.(How in the hell is he not in the HOF??????) Great game.

Montana vs Elway @ Denver in 1994 was just a fun MNF game. I seem to hold the games I saw as a youngster as more memorable.
Nostalgic I guess.

Been a fan since the early 90's so a lot of great ones mentioned. My favorite one to date though was the Broncos game where Mahomes threw the left handed pass. Was at a conference in Vegas watching it at a bar, quite a few of Denver fans in the group. Was priceless to experience the up and down emotions from them thinking they are going to win the game to holy shit this Mahomes kid is going to kill us for the next decade.

That might be the best game I ever watched. However, the result disqualified that from my list. I'm still mad about it. We could have got Marino at Arrowhead the following week in the playoffs (I don't remember if Marino ever played at Arrowhead).

That was also Derrick Thomas' last game.

Son of Logical 08-27-2022 08:13 PM

My favorite game is probably still Montana beating Elway with little to no time left on the clock.

A close second though was the following year where the Chiefs beat the Chargers on Monday night. Vanover took a punt back in OT to win it. I grew up in San Diego, and getting to see all the bandwagon fans jump off the train the season after they went to the Superbowl was pure bliss.

Never got Marino at home for the Playoffs but Marino played there in 1991 and the Chiefs won 42-6. In fact that was the week after the 33-6 MNF game against the Bills.

1997 was a fun season until the cheating Donkos beat the Chiefs in the divisional round at Arrowhead.

The MNF game vs the Faiders in week 2 will always stay with me because of how it ended.

All of these! Great job! Plus the this one mentioned by smithanddrew051:

On the road against Denver in 2015. Also the 13 seconds game against Buffalo last year! :thumb:

I thought about the 2015 Denver road game. Almost made my list.

The topic is only about regular season games; so no Buffalo 13 second game. Plus, I'm still pissed about what happened the following week which stains the memory for me.

One of my faves was 2005 vs Fade when they scored with 2 to go putting them up 23-20. We had a middling drive but threw a screen to LJ who went 40 yards to the 1, we called TO with seconds left.

Vermeil goes for it, LJ goes over the top. We had left our seats but moved down to the goal line late. When he scored I’ve never seen a more angry team than Fade. Throwing helmets, screaming at each other.

Those are mine as well. I’m a 40 year old Chiefs fan. Came aboard in 1993 when Montana was traded. The Pat Mahomes era is an absolute game changer. We’re so lucky. The Chiefs Bills playoff game last year was unlike anything I’ve ever seen

Yeah, the weird weather games are always fun. Another great one is the "I think I'm a snow game guy" game against the Broncos in 2019.

Easy and I was there the 56-10 can of whoop ass on the Atlanta Falcons with 8 rushing touchdowns.
