How many Chiefs games have you missed live in the past 20+ years?

Just curious. I have only missed 2 games since 1999. One was the Chiefs-Dolphins in 2006 (Probably because of a girl), the other was Chiefs-Packers 2011 game (First day new job). Otherwise, haven't missed a second of any other game since then.

What's your mark?

Spott 08-27-2022 08:29 PM

I was on a plane for the second half of the AFCCG against Tennessee and didn’t know we won until about 20 minutes after the game was over. I also missed the first quarter and a half of the game against the Texans the week before, which I am eternally grateful for.

loochy 08-27-2022 08:35 PM

A lot during the Huard / Palko / Thigpen / Orton / Cassel years

Zap Rowsdower 08-27-2022 08:37 PM

Not sure about 20 but in the last 10 years I have only missed two games.

2017 home game against the Chargers - At a wedding
2016 season opener home game against the Chargers - In Boston and didn't have access to the game.

Bearcat 08-27-2022 08:41 PM

I could probably count them on one hand between ~'93 and Herm, but at a certain point BS > FOMO.... so yeah, plenty if we're going back that far.

If it wasn't for being out of state, I'm sure I would have at the very least DVR'd every one of Mahomes' games, but these days if life gets in the way of watching some bottom feeder like the Jaguars in September, I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

displacedinMN 08-27-2022 08:44 PM

not many.. I would say less than 5

It is also a great time to do school work and correct papers.

RunKC 08-27-2022 08:44 PM

Can count on one hand but now I have kids and are apart of their activities on weekends so I’m gonna have to NFL+ these damn games and stay off all tech until I’ve watched it Sunday night.

Then again that may be better bc the full game replays are a little over 2 hours due to no commercials. That should help a lot

seclark 08-27-2022 08:46 PM

Just a few, usually I was driving through another state.

KCrockaholic 08-27-2022 08:49 PM

Modern technology helps a lot. I would've missed a couple more if not for mobile/tablet capabilities.

BWillie 08-27-2022 09:41 PM

I rarely watch the ENTIRE game but usually 70% of it.

Football games are too long.

Gary Cooper 08-27-2022 09:45 PM

1 to 3, depending on how you count it.

1999 vs Chargers. Heard the entire game on the radio. Watched none of it.
2007 vs Bengals. Watched part of the 1st half at the Vegas casino/airport. Missed the entire second half.
2018 vs 49ers. Watched most of the 4th quarter on the internet. Missed the first 3 quarters.

Gary Cooper 08-27-2022 09:47 PM

Did most people here watch the blackout game against Cleveland in 2009? The one where Jerome Harrison (who?) ran for almost 300 yards.

I watched it online, back when finding games online was more challenging.

DVR all the games, use the >> button less than I used to.

Mr. Kotter 08-27-2022 11:11 PM

5 games since 1996...maybe, probably not though. Probably 2-3 at most--even during the Herm, Todd, and Romeo years. Shit. My life must have really sucked.... then.

HemiEd 08-28-2022 06:05 AM

Two since 73, both times I was out of the country. Prior to 73 I was in the Navy and out of market so it was rare for them to be available. Lenny's team was on some out East though, since they were a power house.

Yep. I lived in Colorado at the time so blackout restrictions weren’t an issue for me. But if I recall I used a stream of some kind anyways. Josh Cribbs also had a couple TDs that day. And Harrison ran for 286. 10 yards from the damn NFL record.

SuperBowl4 08-28-2022 06:42 AM

I only keep count of the games I go to. :thumb:

KChiefs1 08-28-2022 06:46 AM

Haven’t missed one since 1966.

It was difficult back in the day because of blackout rule but we had family that lived at LOTO & we would just surpass the blackout zone.
I remember the MNF games at Arrowhead were touchy because I had school the next day but we would still go to watch the games.

One and a half since around 1970. The one was the 10-10 tie with the Browns in 1989. The half was during the dreaded 2012 season. It was most of the second half vs the Buccs. I was so damn dissappointed with the Chiefs that I preferred to watch the dude parachute from the edge of outer space that afternoon. Turned over at 21-3 Buccs mid 3rd quarter.

that still irks me

That's good. Your FF button is probably worn off thanks to the Herm and Pioli years.

FlaChief58 08-28-2022 07:34 AM

Maybe a handful

Bowser 08-28-2022 07:45 AM

Good question. If I'm not parked in front of a TV somewhere, I'm in a car listening to Mitch and Danan. I remember I missed the Stoyanovich game against the Broncos due to family stuff. We stop by the store on the way home and I bump into a coworker who immediately asks what I thought of the game. I told him I know nothing of the game and don't ****ing spoil it, to which he responds "Ok, I won't tell you anything, but you're going to love the ending!" Thanks for that, you stupid dick.

As far as going live, I think I've been to Arrowhead maybe five times since that disastrous playoff to the Ravens at the end of the '10 season. I still haven't watched Mahomes live yet. Hoping to remedy that this season at some point. Maybe.

digger 08-28-2022 07:48 AM

until Thursday, 1 Preseason game back in 2002, now 2 preseason games...

oldman 08-28-2022 07:51 AM

I don't think I've missed any. But that's not to say I didn't turn a few off at halftime or before. Damn you, Herm!!! And Todd!!

A lot. My dad and I used to go to different restaurants in our area that had Sunday ticket and we'd watch most games live there while imbibing and eating appetizers.

Then I moved out of town in 08 to live with my now ex wife and we had Sunday ticket. I watched most games at home alone (She was a Packers fan and didn't like my game watching temperament). I'm sure I missed a few here and there because she was always dragging me to some kind of this or that on Sunday afternoons.

Since I got divorced and moved back to town, my dad has had Sunday ticket and I always go over and watch with him.

That I can recall from more recent times, I have only missed the first half of the game in London (I think I forgot it was on early), all of the game in Indy when Alex got concussed (girlfriend was sick and I had to take care of her kids who were little at the time) and most of the big comeback Playoff game against Houston. I had gotten tickets to take my nephew to a Penn State wrestling match months before playoff schedules were announced. Some guys in the stands behind us were talking about Houston blowing us out. I had my phone off because I wanted to enjoy the match with my nephew, but that made me really antsy to get to a TV. On the way out of the parking garage we couldn't find a radio station carrying the game, but we found a youtube channel that was live commenting on the game. We heard the full comeback through the commentary of two Giants fans. It was excruciating.

TLO 08-28-2022 08:39 AM

I don't have an exact count, but I would say 3 or less.

KC Hawks 08-28-2022 09:41 AM

Yeah, our last live game at Arrowhead was the season finale of 2006 when Herm backed into the playoffs.
Mrs. is too short to see over people that won't sit down.

I had a friend to that to me. Cant remember which game. Holmes was playing though.

But Chiefs games are part of the reason I quit going to church. We went to the last service. Father in law wanted to go eat and it took forever. missed the first half. Cant remember what game either

smithandrew051 08-28-2022 12:01 PM

I have missed more births of my children to watch Chiefs games than I’ve missed total Chiefs games in my life.

Dude.

But yeah, that Ravens game was the beginning of the end for me... I had bought tickets to a couple regular season games in 2011, but sold the rest of them after the home opener bullshit against the Bills. Didn't pay for another game until the 2018 AFCCG.

And now have been to 3 of those... it's wild.

Was the Dolphins due to a hurricane named after a girl? I'm trying to remember if they were able to televise that one or if I got shut out by the networks.

I'm not sure that I've missed a single game over the past ten years. If you go back 20 years there were times in Denver when the game simply wasn't shown pre-satellite and internet and sports bar. So I probably missed numerous games back in the early 2000s.

Or did we have sports bars by then? If we had sports bars I would have missed zero or close to it. I've just had several eras in my life where it was impossible to watch the game live due to technology gaps.

There was a Chiefs Dolphins game that was moved up a couple of days due to a hurricane around that time. I know we won the game and it may have been the time that we had a RB/WR score something like 3 TD’s in a game only to never be heard from again.

Marcellus 08-28-2022 02:12 PM

I've missed parts for sure but cant think of a game I've missed the whole thing.

KCTitus 08-28-2022 02:47 PM

My 'religious' watching/attending KC games began in 1988. I worked at Arrowhead/Royals stadiums in 1987, so i didnt get to see any of those games, and judging by the attendance, most of the city didnt either -- they used to close the upper deck some games and just told everyone to go down to the lower level.

After Ganz, and Marty coming in, that only made it stronger. I made sure to watch every game at a sports bar or live. I only went to a few games at Arrowhead as I was a college student living on my own and didnt have the funds.

Leaving KC in 1995, and Sunday Ticket not yet available everywhere, I spent a lot of Sunday's in sports bars, but I still got to see games....

By the time the Herm years rolled around, I took it as a personal challenge to see every game. It was like my very own IronMan.

In all of that time, there is one game I didnt watch live... last years Buffalo/KC game in week 5. I knew they were going to get slaughtered and the team had been playing so poorly, I refused to watch that team play below their standards.

I wasnt wrong, but it did hurt a little to skip it. I did watch it, but on GamePass after the fact...so I dont think that counts. Chalk me up for 1.

Church is a good way to ruin a perfectly good Sunday.

Thankfully when my dad was dragging us to it we weren’t going out after it was straight home to the game.

I take it the difference between not wanting to watch them lose to the Bills last season and, well, the 20 years prior... was you were expecting shitty football for 20 years?

I was going to add this to the list of games i missed. They played it on a Friday night. I missed it because I was assigned to chaperone a dance that night. This was before streaming and smartphones. Had to keep running to my classroom and checking the score on my computer.

lewdog 08-28-2022 04:19 PM

Only time I've missed a game in the past decade was the time I was so drunk that I was time traveling and thinking I was in Belize with a beautiful model.

Still irks me that I missed that game.

Same growing up in Montana. My dad and I would drive 30 miles to a sports bar to watch them many times. Wasn't until about 2010 when I could find decent streaming consistently that I didn't miss a game.

I'd rather watch an undermanned and less talented KC team pull wins out of their asses like they did in the 90's, than watch an SB caliber talented team shit the bed against anyone.

After SB54, I expect nothing but the best, and the team was for all intents and purposes the same, if not better, after the OL improvements and they were embarrassing.

scho63 08-28-2022 05:01 PM

Since Andy Reid maybe 2-3

Before Andy a lot. I didn't watch much of the Cassel debacle or Pioli or Haley or Crennel or Thigpen or Palko.

MagicalFruit 08-28-2022 07:25 PM

Before Mahomes I watched about 2-4 per year. Since Mahomes I watch probably 12-14, only about 6 live. 4 kids baseball games on Sundays and hunting season make it damn near impossible to watch live.

ETA: when I’m not watching live I don’t answer texts or calls because I know it’s an asshole calling to tell me something about the game I plan to watch later.

displacedinMN 08-28-2022 08:40 PM

I forgot about Cincy at KC--a few years ago. Sunday night game.

Had Phil Collins tix.

Game got flexed to Sunday Night.

Frazod 08-28-2022 09:38 PM

I moved into my own place and got DTV in 2001. Much like Hog, I got DTV for the sole purpose of watching the Chiefs (along with the wife watching the Braves). I've missed a few, particularly during the lean years between Green and Alex, but very few. And I don't think I've missed any since Pat took over.

One that I missed I actually had tickets for - the Raiders/Chiefs game played the day after the great Kansas/Missouri game of 2007. I was already exhausted, physically and emotionally, my voice was gone, and I had a 500 mile drive home to look forward to after the game. The Chiefs were terrible that year, and I had a feeling that if I stuck around they'd lose, **** up an otherwise magical visit, and I'd just have wasted four to five hours I could have spent on the road. So I stopped for gas at a QuickTrip in Lee's Summit, put the tickets on the counter, and told the clerk that anybody who wanted them could have them. As it turned out, the Raiders won, and I made the right call.
