WAS RB Brian Robinson shot multiple times during attempted robbery

Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson was shot during an attempted robbery on Sunday. The rookie back was reportedly shot multiple times, but appears to be in stable condition. The early reports are this is a non-life threatening injury, which is great to hear. There should be more details on this situation soon, but at least Robinson is in stable condition right now.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

neech 08-28-2022 05:40 PM

Even if you were only shot multiple times with a .22 and still be in stable condition that would be a major deal, at least to me.

Be interesting to learn more details.

threebag 08-28-2022 05:51 PM

I was shot once with a .22 and it was no big deal

I guess I’m just a big pussy.

You’re a man threebag.

threebag 08-28-2022 06:00 PM

I was acting like I was John Wayne with a lever action .22 and hit my foot when I was 13. Went right through my lace hole between my little toe and the next one. Surprisingly it didn’t hit a bone. Walked about a mile right after. It sucked because taking the gun out ass whoopin hurt worst than getting shot. LMAO

threebag 08-28-2022 06:03 PM

Just some dumb kid shit, I got lucky it wasn’t really bad. Cost me about a 3-4 weeks of football playing

kevrunner 08-28-2022 06:05 PM

Robinson was shot in the lower body, looks like a carjacking.

ChiliConCarnage 08-28-2022 06:09 PM

That's too bad. Glad he seems to be in ok shape

kevrunner 08-28-2022 06:09 PM

“Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. is in stable condition after being shot during a possible attempted carjacking in Washington, according to a D.C. police spokesman.

Robinson was shot twice and taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries believed not to be life-threatening.”

neech 08-28-2022 06:09 PM

Well I have a little bit of land behind my house and have killed many a critter there with my trusty .22 like many raccoons, possums a badger and even a coyote which I was astounded by. I didn’t even think I hit him he was so far away.

Anyone that think .22’s is a pussy gun I’ll meet you at the George Brett statue.

Since this morning, I've asked about 50 friends in Australia, Canada, and across the country. All of them agree with me. All my years getting shot with a .22 and never once did I hear of the situation happening.

Let me ask my 50 friends from assorted countries including Germany about that.

Be back shortly.

Glad he’s okay (hopefully), but damn. Definitely puts an obstacle in the way of his NFL dream.

You hope he makes a full recovery and gets to play in the league.

Hope this becomes a great story with a happy ending.

Hog's Gone Fishin 08-28-2022 06:18 PM

Just before I moved to Texas to manage the hog operation , one of the employees that lived on sight committed suicide by taking a .22 rifle and shooting himself in the chest multiple times. I guess his wife had cheated on him and he wanted to teach her a lesson.

Buehler445 08-28-2022 06:20 PM

Hope he makes a full recovery.

I think he was a mid round pick so he's not sitting on a huge signing bonus. I'm glad he didn't die over a car. If he can get back on the field that'd be great.

Can/Do athletes insure their body for things like this?

His earning potential could be severely limited due to someone else’s crimes.

He should be entitled to major compensation for this.

I know collegiate players have done it in the past. That one RB for SC shredded his knee right at the end and I think I remember him getting some payout. I'd be shocked if Fournette didn't have something. NFL wise, I'm not sure.

kevrunner 08-28-2022 07:25 PM

Looks like Robinson fought to keep his vehicle from getting stolen.

I'd be lying if I said fantasy football ramifications weren't the first thing I thought of.

Once I found out it wasn't life-threatening, of course.

In my defense, I just finished the draft, looked at my team and saw the news.

Ya just never think that's going to happen.

Sean Taylor comes to mind certainly, but also former Oregon State star corner Dennis Weathersby, who got shot shortly before the draft in 2003. His wounds were non life-threatening but I don't think he ever fully recovered. He was a consensus 2nd rounder with a chance of going in the 1st, but post-shooting, dropped to the 4th round (98th overall) to the Bengals. Perhaps related to his gunshot wounds, he was only active for 4 games of his rookie season (one against the Chiefs), recorded no statistics because he probably didn't see the field, then was out of the NFL for good after that year.

From an April 2003 ESPN article:

Quote:

The draft status of cornerback prospect Dennis Weathersby has been rendered uncertain after the former Oregon State star was shot Sunday evening in his hometown of Duarte, Calif., a Los Angeles suburb.

While the injuries inflicted in the shooting are not life-threatening, and Weathersby is expected to be released from the hospital by Wednesday, it could be 6-8 weeks until the cornerback is cleared to resume any football-related activities. The fact he will probably miss rookie orientation as well as a mini-camp might drop him from his consensus second-round status.

The positive news, on a relative basis, is that Weathersby will not require surgery for any of his injuries.

Weathersby was shot in the back, below the lungs, with the bullet passing through his torso, and entering his forearm. Contrary to an earlier report by ESPN.com, the bullet did not exit his arm, is still lodged there, but will not be removed.

Teams that were considering Weathersby in the weekend draft, certainly will want a detailed analysis of his physical condition.

"I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I feel fine," Weathersby said. "I'm lucky. The Lord has a reason for everything and this must be a part of his plan for me."

Hope he makes a full recovery and gets back on the field. What a shitty welcome to the DC area for the kid.

As for .22s, they don't do a lot of damage, but they can be very lethal. Lot of people are killed with a .22 calkber firearm every year, and iirc someone actually killed a grizzly bear with one not that long ago. Luck or skill I don't remember, but it happened. Kid got a bit lucky, imo. Should've just let the dirtbags have the car instead of getting shot.

When I was just a baby my momma told me "son, always be a good boy - don't ever play with guns". But I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die. When I hear that whistle blowin', I hang my head and cry.

Let us not forget how close this came to happening to some rookie on the Chiefs back in 2017:

Quote:

Patrick Mahomes Allegedly Robbed at Gunpoint
Timothy Rapp
May 15, 2017

Kansas City Chiefs rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes was reportedly robbed at gunpoint in Smith County, Texas on Friday, according to Whitney Mayfield of KLTV.com.

Mahomes and three other people claimed they had been robbed after getting out of a vehicle in a driveway. The report states the group was then approached by a car carrying two men, with one said to have gestured as though he had a gun and demanded property be handed over.

The authorities arrested two suspects, Michael Blake Pinkerton, 34, and Billy Ray Johnson, 58, after the incident and were able to recover and return the property taken from the vehicle.
