The blue dot is my house. We’re about 5 blocks from the water. Luckily we’re kinda elevated so we’re the last flood evacuation zone. I cut my trees back after work today. Boss told us to take tomorrow off and secure our homes. Boarding mine and my neighbors windows in the morning. Gonna be a “fun” few days at the Coochie Liquor house. But I’m stocked up on weed, alcohol, and gummies! Wish us all luck down here in the cone!

Yeah, 10 foot wall of water is what they keep saying on the Tv. We went through 2 in 2004 when I lived in Sebastian. The first one messed our house up. The second one left it standing but basically destroyed and uninhabitable. Still had to live there for about 4 more months until we had another option. No power for 2 weeks then got it back for 3 days and lost it for 17 more days with the next storm.

That had to be brutal on that coast. I was living in Treasure Island back in 04-05 when Frances and Jean came through. IIRC, at least one of them was still a category 1 even after it crossed the state and got to us.

I'm girding my house in Denver, but these hurricanes always end up being nothing.

You people in Florida might have a bigger impact, though, so good luck to all of you.

Well, you may be getting a quick and unexpected return home visit for a few days, lol.

It was really really scary honestly. We were in a wood frame house. We were boarded up, but it sounded like a freight train was coming through. You would hear large objects just slamming into the house and roof. We had the kids on mattresses in the hallway cuz we didn’t have an interior room with no windows. I waited about a week and a half to remove my boards. The only reason I did was because they said Jean had turned and would t affect us. Then about a day later they said in typical South Parking fashion “ITS COMING RIGHT FOR US”. Had to re board mine and my bosses windows rapidly. Luckily we found a generator between the 2 storms. Cuz it’s impossible to get laid when you have no power and it’s like 100 degrees outside. There was a small empty lot in the middle of our block, and someone brought a big barrel with a grate to cook food on. As everyone’s food was thawing they would bring it to the pit and cook it and share it with the people from the block. It sucked, but there was also a lot of unity that wasn’t always prevalent in the neighborhood prior to that. We had lots of the neighborhood kids over watching cartoons with our kids in a window unit worth of AC because we happened to get a generator.

We just left South Seas Resort on Captiva Island a few hours ago. The hotel portion of the place was basically a ghost by now. But some of the other properties privately owned on the resort still seem pretty inhabited. I can’t imagine being on that island or Sanibel for that matter to ride this out but I guess plenty of people will. Definitely wasn’t a bunch of people fleeing. And Fort Myers itself seemed not at all concerned.

Tampa Bay or Punta Gorda?

The Bucs are practicing in Miami. Miami shouldn’t be effected by the hurricane. They can get civilian staff for the game. The Dolphins are out of town. It’s Miami if not Tampa.

Still a couple days to go but the latest forecast tonight is definitely pushing it right into Tampa.

Jeff Darlington with ESPN who is pretty plugged in was saying it probably won't be Miami. NFL does not want to tie up any Florida state resources on a football game. Your best bets are probably New Orleans or Minneapolis.

I was in Tampa but went to my mom's house in Orlando.

Slight shift in course overnight now has Ian hitting me dead square about 4 a.m. Thursday.

Good news is there's time for that to change. These storms almost always wobble and shift at the end. Still gonna get thumped, though.

They're saying that it's expected to basically stall right over us which isn't great. Lots of wind and rain for a couple of days. Thankfully I'm not in a flood zone, but I'm still worried. Going to make final preps today, then hunker down. Stay safe.

IIRC, Charley was headed to Tampa and then abruptly cut inland around Punta Gorda/Pt Charlotte. That was a crazy year or so for hurricanes and Pensacola even got a couple of them.

Same to you. I'm in an Evacuation Zone C in Manatee County, so far only A has been mandatory here. Not really worried about water, but a direct hit of those winds could do some damage.

Worst part is losing power. We lost power for three days when we lived in DeLand when a hurricane brushed against us, and I almost reverted to Lord of the Flies. I've since bought a portable generator, so we'll see if that keeps me sane.

The generator is a game changer. The last time we lost power, we could at least make coffee, plug the fridge and freezer in every couple hours run a fan and have tv. No AC sucks, but other than that we were pretty comfortable

Just talked to my stepdad and plans changed and he's riding it out in Siesta Key and not going to Miami. Says he thinks it's going to hit closer to Ft. Myers which would be good for the storm surge situation in Sarasota. Not sure if it's the smartest thing to do, but he's pretty stubborn. Told me he couldn't get out at this point even if he wanted to. Yikes...

It seemed like New Orleans was the other option but I'm guessing Tampa may not want to play there since that's their biggest rival. It'd be like the Chiefs playing a home game in Denver. The local fans would come out to root against them and it'd be a road game. Although Minnesota might not be much better but maybe the late Sunday night time will keep too many fans from traveling up.

It’s Tom Brady, the local fans will come out to book him regardless I would imagine.
