They say that’s the only way to get an edge is to pick all high numbers because many will pick , birthdays, anniversary’s etc. but it’s still not much of an edge.

It’s just not right that you win $1.6 BILLION and you only take home $444 million. Which is an amount I could squeeze by on but “the man” has to take his cut even in a lottery.

The rationale of picking all high numbers is to reduce the chance you will split the prize with one or more other players. It doesn't help you win but if it is true there are substantially more plays with low numbers because of reason stated, it would increase your expected value.
