Is Chiefsplanet seriously going to outlive Twitter?

This might be destined for DC, but for some reason this will feel like a major achievement on this website if that happens.

Forums like this have taken a huge hit with social media. Out of the Tech, Life, Music, Baseball and Nintendo forums I was a part of in high school, it's amazing that this is the place that not only survived, but it still thriving (while outliving and far suprassing the Chargers, Raiders, and Bronco forum equivalents).

Cheers.

Funny thing is that I wouldn't know about the imminent demise of Twitter if I hadn't first seen a bunch of people tweeting about it.

Crazy what's happening on Twitter right now. Rumor is that their entire HR department has resigned. Some reports saying that 1/3 of the remaining force has quit today. Musk is the very definition of capitalist scum. Treating emoloyees as if they were his cattle.

Chieftain 11-18-2022 12:13 AM

I have worked at my current job for the past 7 years and even though it can be stressful at times, the management is amazing and the owner is so humble and down to earth. That is why I still work where I work. I am treated well and with respect. The company provides workers with full health benefits and daily quality meals. It's why people rarely quit.
Twitter has always provided meals to their hardworking staff. Musk comes in and takes that away. And demands them to work 12 hr shifts. It's insulting and inhumane.

I went to "Twitter.com" the first time just a couple of minutes ago. Seems like it is working just as well as any other website.

Chieftain 11-18-2022 12:18 AM

Not everyone has quit. But a large chunk, 1/3 has been reported, seems to have quit, including their entire human resources department.

I don't know about that. The world might find out that 90% of Twitter employees can quit or be fired and that has no effect on the ability of people to keep on tweeting.

Seriously, how many people do you really need to run Twitter? If I bought it and it had 5000 employees, I'd fire 4500 of them. If a bunch quit during that process.....even better.

I was on Twitter for 4-5 months back in 2009 due to a company I worked for making all the sales team join and I was the Sales Operations Manager. The marketing dept ran my account.

I never Tweeted once.

After the company folded, my account got hacked and some BOT tried using it to spam Malware. My account got locked and I never got it back.

Never rejoined.

I think the world will find out pretty quickly that many underappreciated staffers were there for a reason. We haven’t even gotten to the lawsuit portion of this play. Not just all the employment laws he broke. Which will be great without an he department. Good luck moderating content and complying with European regulations. Twitter will probably be fine but only because Elon will have no choice but to swallow his pride and get out at a huge loss.

Twitter is actually great as long as you control your experience. It can get out of hand quickly because it’s hard to ignore the bots and trolls, and to get into the rabbit hole of engaging with it. Take the chiefs for example. Great way to get instant news and what other platform would have random strangers interacting with guys like kelce and mahomes? There’s a lot of good stuff there if you can stomach the 75% of it that’s a cesspool

Here is my only interaction with Elon

I did ransomware restores for about a year. One of those was Elon's companies but not a ransomware issue just incomptenance.

We are all sitting in a conference room.getting briefed about whets been done and the plan going forward. About 20 of us in the room. Elon, who is by himself, opens the door and says "I hope you guys are better than the last ones" shuts the door and goes on down the hallway. The guy goes on with the brief like that never happened.

What's amusing is years ago one side of the political spectrum was claiming that twitter was dead and they were moving to another app. Now it's the opposite side of the spectrum claiming the same thing and moving to another app. We all saw how that worked out.

Of course you have an Elon Musk story! If there was a thread about Sponge Bob SquarePants, I’m sure you’d have a story about the time you ate 6 crabby patties at The Crusty Crab and then kicked Squidward’s ass for playing his saxophone too loud.

mr. tegu 11-18-2022 07:15 AM

When Twitter crashes during a Chiefs game then maybe things will be a little more dire but for now Twitter isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. It’s users are Twitter addicts and countless people and companies rely on it as an integral part of their brand and overall profit generating strategy. People that remember the “good old days” of Twitter from five months ago are just upset and running with the narratives that Musk is ruining everything because some employees are upset and they don’t like his politics. Of course if it would go away along most other forms of social media that would be pretty swell.

None, It wasn't a ransomware restore. Just setting up some new forest for typical use. They wanted it as a quick standup, one of the VP's suggested this group was use to standing up a new forest fast and getting it populated. Got it done in 1.5 days.

Or because he’s actually burning it to the ground. The blue checkmark fiasco was a disaster. Including companies losing billions in market cap because they were trolled by Twitter users (see eli Lilly) Him thinking he could get away without content moderation was already checked by Europe. Him laying off en masse then realizing he shouldn’t have, only to have more people quit on top of it. The users will ultimately keep it running but it’s without a doubt a disaster of fyre festival proportions at this point

Eleazar 11-18-2022 07:33 AM

Twitter isn't going away. The user base is too large and there's really no substitute for what it does among social media. It might be troubled for a time due to Musk's mismanagement, but the demand is always going to be there.

Twitter has a lot of issues. I had hoped he could fix some issues because there’s still potential. But you’re giving him way too much credit. It’s not a huge deal that he blew up the staffing. He has no idea what he’s doing and he’s making hugely expensive mistakes and correcting after the fact because he has no idea what he’s doing.

It's pretty funny, because I lurked on this board since way back in the day when the KC Star board went down when I was just a teenager. Didn't register for years and years because I assumed this board would meet the same fate as that one and all the other little ones that sprung up afterwards, yet here it is, still rolling. I don't believe any of the other ones are still even around.

It's a nice place. I mean it's a total cesspool, but it's nice. :thumb:

It goes both ways though. There was also the spoiled brat that thought he could just light things on fire without a plan. The blue check fiasco was a multi billion dollar disaster. And he’s probably going to get penalized out the wazoo for his total lack of strategy blowing up content moderation in spite of strict European regulations. I am interested in seeing big shakeups at Twitter but this ain’t it. Sell it to someone with similar thinking who actually understands content tech.
