That black reporter on ESPN at the hospital has mentioned three times that he used to live in Cinci and lived “right down the street” from the hospital.
He also said that he had to vouch for Diggs to get into the hospital. Dude, it’s not about you. |
Copying this tweet from the other thread. It's been the only reported update that seemed to be substantiated (by folks like Rapoport).

Update on Damar:

His vitals are back to normal and they have put him to sleep to put a breathing tube down his throat. Just read that there are no planned updates for tonight on his condition
|
Crazy. Hope he can recover. Can only imagine being a family member or friend and seeing that happen live. Here is what probably happened:

Just an awful situation. Prayers up.

Anyone know a BUF fan on one of their boards? Maybe you could let them know that we're praying with them over here.
|
Prayers up for sure. Horrific situation.

This one hits hard. At fourteen my daughter was intubated in a coma for four days. I was fortunate to be walking back into her room when she awoke, caught my eyes and smiled. There are no words for that. Be well young man, and from whatever power there is out there in the universe may there be grace to the family. |

Prayers for Hamlin! |
Best wishes for him and his family and friends. Horrible to see something like this.

Just donated wow makes me feel good god bless the young man pray he survives and thrives ❤️

Praying for Hamlin and his family. Hopefully he can make a miracle recovery!

My Heart goes out this young man.
Hope to God he comes out of this. |

Update from the Bills
|
Tough ordeal you don't ever consider as probable on a football field. Prayers out, he's a good player.
|
I knew it was going to be a heart stopping game…..
|
Wow.
Incredible. I’ve never heard of anything like that. |
Best wishes for the young man. Nobody expected to see this shit.
|
CPR may have saved his life. If that happened in front of me Im ashamed I wouldn't know what to do other than call for help. By then it may be too late.

It sounds like he may not have been in cardiac arrest for very long. Because of where this happened, in a place where there are doctors and paramedics and everything else at the ready, maybe he stands a decent chance of beating the odds.
|
Seems as if he might suffer from Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Hereditary genetic issue that can cause cardiac arrest in young athletes. Only time will tell. Prayers to him and his family.
|
Thankfully I'd say we're far enough out that any of those rumors of him being dead already are complete bullshit. Just hope they resuscitated quick enough that he won't be affected in any major way going forward

To be optimistic, based on the fact that he received CPR so quickly and his heart rhythm was restored on the field … I bet he’s going to be all right. They will keep him sedated on the ventilator, possibly with body cooled down (hypothermia protocol) for a day to improve prognosis for neurological recovery. So we may not hear anything more today.
|
My DIL is an ER RN and her take is the EMTs did the right thing last night and saved his life. It’s now time to understand if there was other damage, so I’m hopeful that we we will hear good news today, but it may take longer.
The fallout over the biz side of things will be interesting to watch unfold over the next few days. The show must go on. |
Thank God he is alive and stable, what an awful outcome for everyone involved
|
Scary stuff last night.
Prayers for Damar and his family. |
Just woke up fearing bad news.
Glad he is hanging on. |

Except for: He is alive and in critical condition. Everything will be told, but this is not the time for anything else. |
Hoping to hear good news today..

My wife is one too. She said they 100% have saved his life for now. 9 minutes is an eternity though and… we need to pray for him |
Prayers and best wishes to Damar and his family. That was awful. I wish him the best.
|
Let’s hope he didn’t suffer any brain damage from being out prior to being resuscitated. Thank God for expert medical care on the sidelines.
|
Praying for the dude, his family and his team. Difficult to watch, and glad the NFL did the right thing in cancelling the game relatively quickly.
I'm not going to speculate, but to tell people they can't is a bit odd as long as they stay well within reason. Humans are known from a young age to ponder "why?", it is our nature. |

Praying for him and his family. I can't imagine how hard that was for his mother to watch. Hopefully he can make a full recovery:grovel:
|
Give credit to the medical staff. That was a chaotic situation directly in front of 80,000 people, and millions watching at home.
Talk about performing under pressure. Anywhere and maybe anyone else and this would already be over. Kid has a chance thanks to them. |

Horrifying. |
It's mentioned in the OP about how to do CPR, if you're not working from home, the Red Cross will come to your work and do first responder training and I believe it's a free service. I've done the training, it's good and thank god I've never had to use it.
https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class Also you can take free first responder classes from the Red Cross and they go over things like choking, CPR and using an AED. My parents both did it when I was a kid because we had a pool, thank god my dad never had to do CPR on anyone since he popped the arms off the mannequin when he was practicing chest compressions. |
This has been just awful to watch unfold. Living in Cincinnati, I can tell you that the UC Hospital is the top trauma unit in the region so he should be getting the best care available. Hopefully this coupled with the fact that he received immediate medical treatment will allow him to pull through without any long term effects.

Damar Hamlin updates, prayers and discussion thread

If good quality CPR was given as it probably was the length of 9 minutes CPR doesn’t really indicate anything other than they were trying to get him conscious and restore his heart rhythm and it doesn’t automatically mean he was suffering brain damage or will have any. They key is how long he was out before. Him being in critical condition right now is not an indication of severity of the cardiac test either as it’s a designation given to anyone intubated and in the ICU. |

I donated to his charity last night. I’m not sure if it’s been shared in here but in case it hasn’t:

The medical analysis from the OP matches up well with a lot of the speculation from people in the know were discussing in the GDT last night. Such a freak type of thing to happen. I really wish I hadn't seen it live, and on a regular Monday night game, I probably wouldn't have.

Wife who works at KU where all the sickest go (CRNA and former neuro ICU) was spot on last night so you can take this as truth. Says they probably did scans last night which can reveal potential physical damage but that they won’t really know how his brain is impacted until they wake him up, which she thinks will be today, and they’ll wake him up slowly.
Says if no damage he will basically just be fine when he wakes up as far as brain activity goes. But says even then would need some heart tests, procedure maybe, pacemaker, etc. Also says worst case scenarios are still a possibility for when he wakes up such as paralyses, severe stroke effects, etc. but that if he was being given good CPR acted on quickly these things are greatly reduced as possibilities. |

I keep visualizing an AP photo of him sitting up in his bed smiling, giving a reassuring thumbs up while surrounded by hospital staff, family, and/or friends/teammates. It's all I see.
