#1 Seed in a Rebuilding Year REP Thread

And downing the Raiders to do it!

REP

EDIT: since a few here didn’t catch my sarcasm. Remember ALL of the national talking heads saying it would be a rebuilding year? Let's dunk on them here, too. Spoilering the compilation for your convenience.

Spoiler!

They really were. They made a good Raiders look bad. This is the same Raiders whose offense dominated the Niners.

This was never, ever a rebuilding year. But now that we can dunk on the talking heads who said this repeatedly before the season? You better believe I will.

There were plenty of media people expecting KC to take a big step backwards this year. They ended up with a better playoff seed than last season.

With what 12 draft picks and ample cap space heading into next year. Heading into next season do we have a single contract on the books that would be considered a "bad contract"? Rest of the AFC is so F'ed!

It is not about me liking or disliking. I a suppose in the wide world of the internet someone has said it but suddenly after we have done well all these people are popping up saying THEY SAID IT WAS GOING TO BE A REBUILDING YEAR.

....were they?

BigRedChief 01-07-2023 07:04 PM

What a good year!

|Zach| 01-07-2023 07:04 PM

Regardless of silly things said or unsaid it is satisfying watching three teams load up and spend all kinds of money with the express goal of beating the Chiefs and after each of them had two shots at it none of them did.

It might be because I live in Colorado, but this narrative was definitely a thing coming into the year. It wasn't the dominant narrative, sure, but enough talking heads predicted us finishing #3 in the division (or worse) as we chose to "rebuild" while the Broncos/Chargers/Raiders chose to load up.

It's been a thing around here since the Tyreek trade... people say it's a rebuild year, people correct to "retool" or "reload" or "maybe just a bit of a down year".

But yeah, totally a thing for the past several months.

We did amazing with what we have. Mahomes and AR are crazy together. We have a bunch of second class skill players and bunch of rookies on defense and still got the 1. Spags deserves a lot of credit as well overcoming crap STS.

I called it a rebuild.

Others have already mentioned it. WR room was almost entirely rebuilt. Started quite a large amount of rookies this year.

I predicted Kelce to still be good, but to take a step back.
I thought the WRs would be "okay"
I thought if CEH was going to have a breakout year, it needed to be now.
And I had a lot of question marks on defense with the rookies, Dunlap, Clark, Reid, Karlaftis etc.

Amazingly the Chiefs met or surpassed all my expectations for this "rebuild" year, expect for CEH. But that problem fixed itself with Pacheco/McKinnon. And at the center of all of it is Mahomes, the GOAT.

when you rebuild your OL and WR Corp nearly completely and you have a defense with rookies and very young players at every level, some non soccer fans might call that a rebuild. also the ground attack with Pacheco & McKinnon is new.

redfan 01-07-2023 07:37 PM

Never a doubt we'd get to 14 wins!!
My only concern: Would 14 be enough for the 1?

lol what. We had a very normal offseason that every team goes through of replacing players with younger ones.

Look man, you not liking me is no reason to die on the hill of wrong and bad takes. #1 was here last year as well.

This was *never* a rebuilding a year.
