Bengals lose RG for the season

they are down their starting RG and RT now

https://sicscore.com/nfl/updates/ale...ft-knee-injury

Quote:

By video, Cappa suffered a high-grade MCL sprain at minimum, according to the Pro Football Docs. He could also have damage to other ligaments in his knee.

The team labeled him questionable to return with an ankle injury, which could hint toward the high ankle/MCL sprain combo.

Either way, Cappa will likely miss the Bengals entire playoff run, according to our panel of doctors.

The injury comes just over two weeks since the Bengals lost right tackle La'el Collins for the season to a torn ACL.

Cappa and Collins were the Bengals' two biggest free agent signings.

Now, Cincinnati heads into the playoffs with Hakeem Adeniji at right tackle and Jackson Carman likely filling in at right guard.

Bl00dyBizkitz 01-08-2023 06:55 PM

Damn, sucks.

Easy 6 01-08-2023 06:56 PM

Thats a shame, darn dangit

Rain Man 01-08-2023 06:57 PM

If they play the Bills, I presume the Bills will play with one less defensive lineman out of sympathy.

smithandrew051 01-08-2023 06:57 PM

Oh great. How long will the playoffs be delayed?

Hammock Parties 01-08-2023 06:59 PM

between this and bosa, the stars are seriously aligned for our playoff run

this is exactly the break we needed to get pressure on burrow

Yeah, anything less than a Super Bowl appearance will be disappointing at this point. It’s right there for us.

Why would the Chargers play their starters today? Williams hurt his back too. They were locked into the 5 seed... weird.

Oh, my. I'm very sympathetic. I had no idea that the team was going with an 11-man roster. That's delightfully retro.

Coochie liquor 01-08-2023 08:21 PM

Hate injuries regardless of team (except maybe Dungver or Brady), but nobody cares that we had our 2nd and 3rd string OL starting in the SB. So **** it, shit happens!

Nah, as usual Staley over thought this and followed the "keeping the momentum going" philosophy both mentally and physically when the game absolutely DID NOT MATTER.Who gives a rat's ass if you lose to the Broncos because everyone knows why you lost saving and resting your "real team". Losing 2 real stars in a meaningless game right before the playoffs is a fireable offense IMHO:rolleyes:

Common sense said, you have an injury prone team that is now finally a 100% healthy going into the guaranteed playoffs so let's let the majority of backups play to get some snaps and get the rust off them so that IF someone is injured in the playoffs they will be more comfortable going in.;)

Absolutely no one gave two shits about the Chiefs injuries.

I hope the Bills are starting a FB at RT and the Bengals are starting a punter at RB.

Agreed. This is how the world works, other than the possibility of us having to play on a neutral field because the Bills cried.

ForeverIowan 01-08-2023 09:16 PM

They still have two extremely physical games before we would see them as well in Baltimore and likely Buffalo. Any other lineman get digned up they are in trouble.

I can see the Bungholes playing their starters since they had a chance (even a long shot one) to get the #2 seed. Staley playing his starters -- pure dumshitery.

But then we'll have to go to Buffalo for the AFC Championship game because that'll nullify our neutral site game that nullified our Arrowhead Invitational.

How another injury impacts Bengals' offensive line

You could surmise the Bengals could get by with one replacement on the offensive line. It's hard to imagine it working favorably with two backups on the same side. Opposing defensive coordinators will take advantage of the Bengals’ weakest links.

To put into perspective how talented Cappa is and the respect he’s earned, let Karras explain.“I’ve gotten a lot of credit this year and I just want to make it clear that Alex Cappa is the singular force that drives this o-line,” Karras said.

“It’s like having another center on the field. He’s my No. 1 confidon and he’s extremely talented. My heart broke when that happened. I just want to make it clear how much Alex means to this team, this line and this offense. He’s been a huge contributor and a big factor in our success this season.”

If Cappa is unable to play, the Bengals will turn to Max Scharping who filled him for him on Sunday. The Bengals added Scharping as one of three claims on the waiver wire right after the NFL’s 53-man cutdown deadline before Week 1.

Scharping, a 2019 second-round pick, played three seasons for the Texans and started 33 games during his tenure in Houston.

"Max has played a lot of football, and he knows his stuff," Burrow said. "He's going to have to step up but we have all the faith in the world in him."
No one is going to come off the bench and play at Cappa’s level. It’s unrealistic to think that.

It’s been extremely frustrating seeing nearly every other team get pressure on Burrow while KC is unable to touch him. That being said, with these injuries and with Karlaftis and Jones coming on strong I have faith it will be a different story if we end up facing them. As long as the secondary can do their part the DL should be able to get pressure this time around. Let Sneed shadow Chase, McDuffie play the slot, and hope Watson/Williams don’t get abused too bad.

Wasn't that at the very end of the game when Cincy was trying to run out the clock? Seemed like Burrow gave up on the play, mainly to keep the clock moving.

That was true the 1st half of the year. Since Halloween they haven't given up more than 2 sacks in any game. This and the loss of the RT will probably change that though.

Megatron96 01-11-2023 10:32 PM

If we meet, Chris Jones is going to have a big day against a backup RG and a backup RT.

ThyKingdomCome15 01-12-2023 12:25 AM

We've had a good pass rush basically all year. The CIN game was by far the lowest point. They dominated, yet we were about to go up 10 in the fourth until Kelce fumbled. That's crazy.

Rooting for the Bengals at this point. Jags are better matchup for us than Ravens and if the Bengals get past the Bills I will take my chances against a team down their three best lineman.

You being serious? You'd rather play the Ravens next week in an extremely physical game? I'll take the team trying to outduel Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid

Chiefshrink 01-15-2023 09:51 PM

RT or RG it doesn't matter until our beloved Chiefs get these Bungles out of their heads.

We are in the heads of most NFL teams but seriously in the heads of:

Broncos
Raiders
I want to say Chargers here but not just quite yet especially IF they get S Peyton for a coach.
Ravens
Niners
and soon to be Jags!;)

I don't not speak double negatives, so I think that it doesn't mean that there's no concern that Lamar won't not be injured any more.

RunKC 01-16-2023 02:09 PM

It’s the same injury that Patrick had. I’d be shocked if they tried to play him in a game next week.

Probably try to get him to play with a brace in the SB (if they make it) as a best case scenario.
