Wild stat: Patrick Mahomes is the oldest QB in the AFC Playoffs

Mahomes-27
Allen-26
Burrow-26
Lawrence-23
Herbert-24
Jackson-26
Tagovailoa-24

Even if Jackson and Tagovailoa can't go, their backups are 24 and 25 respectively.

Bowser 01-08-2023 08:14 PM

That's.....weird. Right?

Bearcat 01-08-2023 08:14 PM

And also younger than all but 2(?) in the NFC (or 3 if Grapes is out).

Red Dawg 01-08-2023 08:14 PM

The NFL claims to be legit but look at that list. Every player is first when only few of them actually succeed in history. Now they all make the playoffs.

Munson 01-08-2023 08:15 PM

Old Man Mahomes is going to dominate.

BryanBusby 01-08-2023 08:15 PM

Geriatrick Mahomes

Spott 01-08-2023 08:15 PM

That’s crazy. And the oldest QB in the NFC playoffs is old enough to be all of their fathers.

smithandrew051 01-08-2023 08:16 PM

Mahomes is the best one

Megatron96 01-08-2023 08:16 PM

Just saying that first round QBS fail a lot but suddenly they are in the playoffs just like that. Thats odd all of sudden and probably not by accident. Nobody picked a bust?

TribalElder 01-08-2023 08:26 PM

Awesome!

I wondered if the top 3 AFC teams are coming into the playoffs on the longest winning streaks ever for the top 3 teams

since the bengals/bills did not count

chiefs, bengals, and bills all come into the playoffs riding long win streaks

There is way less difference between pro style offense and college offensive schemes now compared to 10+ years ago.

Interesting thing is USC has pumped out a bunch of QB busts while having a “pro style” offense that would supposedly prepare the USC QB’s better than kids from the Air Raid or other college type offenses. Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez, & Sam Darnold are the best examples.

Even USC has now abandoned the classic pro style offense and running Air Raid with Leach disciple Lincoln Riley. It will be interesting to see what happens with Caleb Williams in the NFL.

If he wanted to make a dent in the GOAT talk he needs on this year before this new squad comes to full potential

Needs help to get there. Cannot afford 10-13 point swings on Special Teams in favor of the opponent like we saw in the Denver & Indy games. Special Teams was excellent against Raiders this weekend. That will be needed in close games against very good playoff teams.

Rain Man 01-08-2023 09:23 PM

That's an amazing stat.

But when I think about it, it makes sense. Once Patrick Mahomes II arrived, every older quarterback knew that they would never win the conference again, so they either retired or took paydays with weak teams.

Every QB in the AFC playoffs is a 1st rd QB.

Only one QB in the NFC playoffs is a 1st rd QB.

But the 1st round bust QBs didn't make the playoffs? Tons of teams picked a bust, no one picked a bust AND made the play offs, but that makes sense.

Rasputin 01-09-2023 03:36 AM

I hope Mahomes doesn't spit out his dentures if he gets sacked.

I’m not sure what type of rigged bullshit you are trying to spew here, but I know based on your posting history that it’s stupid.

Not really.

Mahomes, in short order, ushered the old guard QBs into retirement (or decamping for the NFC) and promoted other teams to search for their own generational QB.

Why Not? 01-09-2023 08:07 AM

Hence one of the reasons the NFL wanted to expand to 7 playoff teams per conference. Also, if you breakdown that list:

Tua- Dolphins barely made it in (see above about 7 teams)

Lawrence- AFC South was a joke, Lawrence is by far the most talented QB in that division.

Jackson- Makes the playoffs most years, non story

Herbert- Was bound to make it eventually.

The other three are the 3 best quarterbacks in the league currently. Nothing really surprising or eyebrow raising about this list.
