Watching Tony Romo is insufferable anymore.
He doesn't do any of the stuff he did that first year. Doesn't break down the plays, doesn't play Romostradamus, etc. He just takes a ball washing angle on a few players and plays contrarian on any big plays that could go either way. He's never right on those either.
Today after a completed pass by Allen he says "And that's why they call him Mr. January!" Who says that? Has anyone ever heard that? lol. They can't say that each of the last two years for sure after we beat them. EDIT: LMAO LMAO My brother just sent this link. Someone else apparently agrees with me. There's some tweets in it too. https://fansided.com/2023/01/15/tony..._b8vjxB_X3XYfg Tony Romo tried to pay Josh Allen a compliment with a new nickname, but we’re pretty sure this one isn’t going to stick… yet. In his young NFL career, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has played six NFL playoff games in January. His 3-3 record is apparently enough to earn him the title of “Mr. January,” that is, if you ask CBS color commentator Tony Romo. To be fair, Allen does have a 106.6 passer rating, an average of over 285 yards per game, 14 touchdowns and 1 interception, but in January the thing that matters most is simple: Wins. To give Allen such a nickname while calling the first quarter of the Wild Card game between the Dolphins and Bills was probably a bit of a leap. Nicknames used to mean something! They were earned! Of course, if what he meant was that Allen has yet to get his team to February, well, that’s technically true. Fans were not a fan of this nickname and took to Twitter to roast Romo for naming him that. Fans roast Tony Romo for giving Josh Allen the nickname of “Mr. January” Technically the truth fits here: Maybe this will be the year for Allen and the Bills: Have you ever tried to get something to catch on? It’s hard work! Stop trying to make Mr. January happen! As far as a better candidate for the title, right now it’s probably Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes is 7-2 compared to Allen’s 3-3 in January playoff games. Remember, Romo’s playing career only consisted of two playoff wins, so while he’s one of the smartest and more entertaining color commentators, his personal playoff experience isn’t the most expansive. That in mind, maybe we can cut him some slack for the nickname. |
Yep
|
He's already worse than Joe Buck somehow.
Never thought I'd say that. Just impressive what a queermo blabber mouth he is. |
All the fun stuff that Romo brought to the table his first year has been eradicated.
Now he is just insufferable and a fanboy. |
Don't you think that just maybe you really want the Bills to get eliminated and Josh Allen does amazing shit and you don't want to see it and you don't want to hear about it so when he ball-washes Allen it grates on your nerves?
Because he does the same thing for Mahomes. |
I would rather guys like Romo and Collinsworth than 99% of the trash heap that is NFL commentators. Yeah no thanks OP.
|
I’ve read that they (meaning the CBS producers, I guess) actually told him to tone it down on the Romostradamus stuff.
|
They refuse to admit Allen’s flaws.

I wish he’d just go to the sidelines and blow Allen at this point and get it over with…

They announce the game and try to highlight things people should be excited to watch. To make money. If you want to talk about flaws there are shows all week that will do this for you. |

It definitely seems like he’s no longer bringing nearly as much insight as he used to.
|
Seems like he really prepared that first year then he got paid and doesn't care now.
He's like the commentator version of Albert Haynesworth |

I agree, and glad you made this thread, because I was thinking about posting that question in the GDT.
I liked Romo from the start, but recently I’ve been asking myself: Has he declined, or have I just gotten used to him and the freshness has worn off? I think he’s declined. |
Yep, it's painful.

Just because Mahomes is the best to ever play the game doesn't mean Allen isn't great also |
I don't mind WATCHING him, it's the LISTENING to him I can't stand anymore.

The producers did this to him. He's a paid shill now. Sad...
The Mr January shit was fed to him to say to beef up Allen. |
Josh Allen is such a punk.

And he was wrong quite a bit. People just remember the right calls. It was annoying hearing him trying to predict what each play would be. He has always been annoying, this isn't his first year being that. |

Every single nfl former player and coach could break down and predict plays if they wanted. For some reason the league doesn’t want them to do it.
|
I wouldn’t get too fired up directly towards romo.
In my opinion, the changes we’ve seen are more of a reflection of the coaching/direction hes getting from the program director, etc The dumb networks think they need to cater to lowest common denominator, when in reality, most watchers like the inside info/breakdowns. |
I used to enjoy his games but he is insufferable anymore.
|
The Romostradamus crap wasn't even that great to begin with and not the mark of a great color commentator.
Besides, he's not even Romostradamus. He's been WRONG on every ****ing play prediction since roasting Bob Sutton on his predictability. |

He’s cringe. Joe buck is 100 times better

Apparently Josh Allen is Jesus Christ according to Tony

Still take Romo over Dungy. Dungy might as well been calling a bingo game at the senior center on Saturday.

He just needs to tone it down a bit...he sounds like those grating analyst voices on the football video games that repeat the same recorded schtick over and over.

He doesn’t seem to possess the ability to describe basic plays as being basic plays. He just won’t shut up.

No matter what happens Romo can’t help commenting on Allen. Skylar misses a deep shot and Romo has to say that Allen makes that throw.

If he's gonna ball wash Allen THIS much, we should be getting a non stop feed of Mahomes love. He doesn't do that. |
I've said early and often that he's Madden 2.0. And I don't mean that as a compliment. Madden never shut up. And Romo never shuts up. He's another massively overrated blathering jackass who endlessly runs his mouth. Still waiting for him to break out the clicker. And while Madden was somewhat offset by Pat Summerall, Romo is the baby nobody puts in a corner.
It's a damn shame too, because he is very knowledgeable. He was awesome in his first couple of seasons as a commentator. But now he's a babbling, ballwashing douche who has become so full of himself that even Joe Buck is somehow a bit less annoying. |

I hope Fox manages to lure him away from CBS, so that he'll mostly ruin NFC games. |
Mr. January LMAO:LOL:LMAOLMAO I had to do a doubletake WTF?

We've all come to accept that Romo is a gasbag, but I never expected Nantz to show his ass like this

It’s called the “Mute” button. Nantz’s golden voice is so soothing… if you’re watching the Masters and nodding off. Put Kevin Harlan with Romo, drop TrInt. |

His hyperbole can be too much but he actually has insights into the Xs and Os that few else provide. Most the time I watch other announcers I feel I could do the same job.

He is fine. Everyone hates everybody.

He use to be great, IDK.

I don't get the Joe Buck hate. Is it something to do with obsession with Bumgarner in the 2014 WS?

I loved how he kept calling the Bills “the champs”….uh of ****ing what lol?

Other than he has turned into the never stop talking guy, his takes are terrible. During the Bills/Dolphins game, he made a comment about what would happen if the Dolphins went for it on 4th down and didn't make it instead of kicking. He said that the Bills would get the ball back with 1:19 left and after the FG, got the ball back with 1:15.
Amazing analysis. He used to be interesting and now it seems like he just likes to hear the sound of his own voice. Maybe this is what the NFL wants, I find it tedious and boring. |
Not sure if Romo is top 5 of the worst commentators.
