Can we win the AFCCG with a gimpy Mahomes?

I don't feel great about it, but this team tends to exceed expectations every time they get lowered.

Sassy Squatch 01-21-2023 06:43 PM

Probably not, no.

HonestChieffan 01-21-2023 06:44 PM

yep

Bump 01-21-2023 06:44 PM

yes and also Giga Chad Henne can come back anytime he wants to be Sir Patrick's backup.

Rainbarrel 01-21-2023 06:44 PM

More playoff experience for rookies either way

crispystl 01-21-2023 06:44 PM

This team can win any game, because we have a ****ing warrior that’s the best to ever do it leading us.

Yes

TLO 01-21-2023 06:45 PM

I've learned to never doubt Patrick Mahomes. So to answer your question, absolutely.

KC_Connection 01-21-2023 06:45 PM

It will make things more difficult, but they absolutely can. Reid has a week to scheme plays for a more immobile Mahomes, they'll figure something out.

big nasty kcnut 01-21-2023 06:46 PM

Pat is a winner therefor we will win.

Mahomes is hurt. The chiefs deserve sympathy. Move the game back to arrowhead. The players had to keep playing despite that sickening injury.

T-post Tom 01-21-2023 06:46 PM

**** yes

Chief Roundup 01-21-2023 06:46 PM

This all depends. It is far to early to form a true opinion.

Rainbarrel 01-21-2023 06:46 PM

Pocket Mahomes will need to happen sooner or later

Coochie liquor 01-21-2023 06:47 PM

Caught myself thinking Henne should have come back in. But Patrick did what he had to do. I’ve that ankle for 7 days and then go send us to the SB!

Superturtle tends to lean negative. No surprise there.

Molitoth 01-21-2023 06:47 PM

If not, it will be due to our Shit special teams.

Wisconsin_Chief 01-21-2023 06:47 PM

Anyone who still doubts this guy is not very wise.

RealSNR 01-21-2023 06:48 PM

Gimpy Patrick Mahomes is still better than just about every other QB.

Maybe if Josh Allen plays like he did last year or if our defense/ST takes a huge ass diarrhea dump.

Andy's a smart coach. He'll know how to put us in a winning position.

SupDock 01-21-2023 06:48 PM

With a great game plan, definitely.

Are we preferring better weather in Atlanta now?

He can't even plant properly to throw. That ankle is ****ed badly.

Gary Cooper 01-21-2023 06:48 PM

Yes, if the pass rush shows up and the running game is strong.

Today's effort won't be enough.

Instead of our odds at 5 or 6 out of 10 they drop to 3 or 4 out of 10. Also taking into the account of Sneeds possible absence.

jonzie04 01-21-2023 06:49 PM

My brain says probably not, but my heart says to never doubt mahomes. I’m going with my heart.

TwistedChief 01-21-2023 06:49 PM

**** yes.

It’ll be hard but whatever. Mahomes can do anything. And they’ll design an offense around what he’s able to do. Push everything to the absolute limit.

As a fan, I feel so much less pressure whatever happens.

Proud of this team.

DJ's left nut 01-21-2023 06:49 PM

Prolly not.

Gonna need him healthier than he was today. If he's not, we're probably boned.

HC_Chief 01-21-2023 06:49 PM

Yes.

Gary Cooper 01-21-2023 06:49 PM

We need more short kickoffs next week. Definitely a great idea. Keep doing that Dave!

Sassy Squatch 01-21-2023 06:50 PM

Hell, he couldn't even properly execute handoffs.

lcarus 01-21-2023 06:51 PM

I sure wish we could figure out a way to pick up first downs in those short yardage situations. It's a problem.

Defenses had to account for his scramble and this makes playing against the Chiefs easier.
His throws, post injury don’t allow a plant foot and this is going to be an issue.

Yes, we can win, but our mission just got real tough.

And yet he still threw another 150 or so yards, a touchdown, and had a 115 passer rating or whatever.

One legged Mahomes is still a top 3 QB in the NFL.

TwistedChief 01-21-2023 06:51 PM

Reminder: the teams we will face next week almost lost to Skylar Thompson and Tyler Huntley.

Yeah, but assuming Mahomes is still significantly hobbled, Andy will need to come up with the best game plan of his career.

Look, I get the severity of a high ankle sprain and how much pain he must have been in, and I get that he makes things look easier than they are, but the man played an entire half of football. He led an offense that out-generated the opposing team's offense. He took how many snaps in that second half and had zero turnovers. Zero. No INTs. No fumbled handoffs. Hell, did he even get sacked?

I get we're running a limited version of our offense. I understand all that.

But ****, man... "can't properly execute handoffs"... really? You're acting like he's been reduced to a brain in a jar

Dude was playing hopscotch on any handoff that wasn't inside zone or draw, and it ****ed the timing enough that the RBs were consistently getting caught in the backfield. That's not going to work for a whole game.

If the team can get to the Superbowl they'll have time to rest up, leave it all on the field Bengals or Bills, and become the AFC Champions once again.

He's got a full week to work with the training and coaching staff on ways he can protect his ankle and gain a little bit of mobility so those handoffs don't become as much of a problem.

No, he's not 100%. But he's still Patrick ****ing Mahomes. You see some of those throws he was still able to execute?

Stryker 01-21-2023 07:01 PM

I believe we will be fine. IF it was REALLY BAD, he would NEVER be back on that field. He has a week to recoup and watch film. LET'S FREAKING GO! :thumb:

It's going to be massively swollen for most of the week. There's a nonzero chance it's even more painful to play on next Sunday than it was tonight.

crayzkirk 01-21-2023 07:09 PM

I have faith in the multiple high ankle sprain bath bombs. Along with a jazz bath, Mahomes will be fine as long as he doesn't wash the practice jersey.

Let's see how he does over the next week. Special Teams continues to be a problem.

Just disappointed we don't get to see his brilliant athleticism in the biggest games. Will be interesting seeing him as a pure pocket passer.

Bills fan will say it makes up for Von and Hyde. Bengals Oline. Watch it.

Our Oline stepped up when he was hurt. Kept him clean.

Megatron96 01-21-2023 07:14 PM

Pat drops his hips and drives hard off his right foot. That ankle is going to be a problem. Hoping like crazy the training staff can work a minor miracle, because the reality is that we probably can't beat either BUF or CIN if Pat is as gimpy as he was at the end of this game.

kccrow 01-21-2023 07:15 PM

I'm legitimately concerned about it if we play Cincinnati. Not as much if it's Buffalo. Hopefully, it's a regular medial sprain and it is at least partially healed by then. I wouldn't be confident in it being fully healed, he was in a pretty good amount of pain.
