Zay Flowers vs. Jalin Hyatt
Who ya got?
|
It's Hyatt for me.
He's bigger, I think he's faster, and I think he translates to the NFL better. |
Hyatt which means Flowers is probably better. I haven't watched a BC game since they played Mizzou a few years back
|
Hyatt has a higher ceiling, Flowers a higher floor imo. I think worst case scenario for Flowers is he's a lethal slot, for Hyatt it's that press kills him and he never gets the polish to be a decent contributor. But I'll fully immediate I could see more of Hyatt and might be missing parts of his game.

Hyatt plays the position in a way that we need more at this time. Flowers is the superior talent and probably a Pro Bowler in Andy Reid's offense.
Really hard call for me. I'd probably go Flowers, by an inch. |
Reserve the right to change my mind after combine numbers but the way Flowers dips his hips during routes and changes directions makes me believe he will be a similar receiver to Garrett Wilson.
Hyatt reminds me a lot of a more sure-handed Will Fuller. I'd be happy with either but I like Zay more at the moment. |

Hyat is bigger and looks faster but the thing that puts him over the top for me is level of competition. The ACC isn't exactly Pop Warner but it sure as hell isn't the SEC.

Early, first impressions say Flowers. But ive spent very little time on this and reserve the right to change my mind. But my first impression is that Flowers is a special, rare talent that'll likely go in the first 20 picks.

I'm all-in on Jalin Hyatt, honestly, but that doesn't mean I don't think highly of Flowers.
Hyatt is Jameson Williams 2.0 as a prospect. Similar collegiate trajectory. Similar physical profile, maybe even a little bit thicker. Easy speed to take the top off the defense. I just think he's the type of player, for this offense, that could have a DeSean Jackson or Tyreek Hill type of impact. Flowers... man he's crisp. He's got good speed too. I don't think he has the speed that Hyatt does or a Hill or a D-Jax but it's up there, maybe high 4.3s to low 4.4s. I think he's a guy that could be outstanding as a Z or Slot. He looks a lot like Tyler Lockett to me. I can't bag on him in any department other than height. I'd gladly have him. At the end of the day, I think Hyatt is a top-15 selection. Flowers is a guy that could easily go round 1 as well. Either could be 1000-yard receivers in the league. It's more a matter of preference than it is anything but the NFL loves speed and Hyatt has it in spades. |
It will be interesting to see what Hyatt runs in the 40. Supposedly 4.3 or nearly. He has good hands, just watch his tape, produced at an elite level vs TOP SEC talent. Made Alabama db's look BAD. If he is there I would LOVE to see the Chiefs take him.

PFF says Zay Flowers is the #2 WR in the draft & Dell > Hyatt
https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2023-...eiver-rankings NFLDraftBuzz.com has Hyatt as the #3 WR on their board over Smith-Njiba. https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/positions/WR/1/2023 ESPN has Flowers > Hyatt @ #7...Dell @ #34. https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft/besta...tion/wr/page/1 |
Huddle Report's first top 200 is out and here's their top 5 plus Rice and Dell
1. (#16) Quentin Johnston, TCU 2. (#17) Jordan Addison, USC 3. (#20) Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ohio State 4. (#28) Jalin Hyatt, Tennessee 5. (#35) Zay Flowers, Boston College 8. (#49) Rashee Rice, SMU 17. (#126) Tank Dell, Houston |

Man. Sets up perfectly for the scenario I was talking about … trading RIGHT in front of Buffalo to take him. |

Those rankings make me interested in Flowers for sure, but I'd also note that NFLDraftBuzz (another favorite source) had Hyatt as their #1 WR until very recently. |
How about Smith-Nijba!? Josh Downs? Parker Washington? Cedric Tillman? or Kayshon Boute?
Anyone in KC interested in these guy? |
Once they get past the Combine and pro days.....I don't think Hyatt makes it past 15.

I think we'd take Njigba if he falls to us. |
Shit.....I might trade up for Hyatt

JSN I feel like gets slept on too much. He was arguably the best receiver on the team that included Wilson and Olave I know he sat out pretty much the entire season with a hamstring. But that’s something the medical staff will have to look into. And I feel like Marvin Harrison JR being a unicorn is deminishing his value |

Yep I’ll take the L there. Looks like he did initially plan on returned but flipped. So I’m not too crazy haha.

Also to follow up, Boutte has talent but his draft position is going to be very heavily dependent on medicals and interviews, he also didn't really play a lot, has off field stuff.
He's a real boom or bust guy, if you can keep him on the field and keep him straight you might have a stud, if not he's gonna flame out hard. Guys like that generally don't go round 1. He's a pure wildcard, there will be teams that completely take him off their boards, hell some draft sites don't have him listed. |

Eh.....lets do that whole thing again. I enjoyed it so much the first time.

Brugler certainly isn't high on Flowers it appears. Has him as his #55 player while he has Hyatt at #22. Interstingly, he has my boy Tyler Scott at #47.
|
Hyatt has LEGIT 4.3 speed...can't coach that, great hands, but I'll admit his route tree is limited...but that part is coachable. I would trade up for him.
|
Bump.....

I wonder how different this poll would be if it were taken today, rather than back in Feb when people were just getting started with evals. A lot has changed since then. |
Interesting Detox. I haven't changed my mind on Hyatt either. We see things differently but that's okay. I don't dislike Flowers but he's definitely below the other top 4 for me. I really wish we had a shot at JSN but that's a dream that won't come to fruition.
|
Damn! Desean Jackson played last season for the Ravens and had 159 yards. Didn't realize he was still in the league.
