Mock (3/7)

Am I the first post-Brown/Clark mock?!?

Assumptions:

1. The Chiefs trade RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire for a 5th round pick.

2. The Chiefs trade for LT Laremy Tunsil (Texans) and a 3rd round pick for the team's 1st, the Tyreek Hill 4th, and the team's original 7th round pick, as well as a 2024 3rd round pick. The Chiefs then pay Tunsil 4 years, $95m, $50m guaranteed.

3. The Chiefs extend: RB Jerick McKinnon 2 years, $5m; DE Carlos Dunlap 1 year, $6m, CB L'Jarius Sneed for 3 years, $42m.

4. The Chiefs tender: QB Shane Buechele, TE Jody Fortson, OT Prince Tega Wanogho, DT Tershawn Wharton, P Tommy Townsend

5. The Chiefs re-sign to minimal deals: FB Michael Burton, WR Justin Watson, DT Brandon Williams, LB Darius Harris, S Deon Bush

6. The Chiefs let walk: RB Ronald Jones, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR Mecole Hardman, TE Blake Bell, OT Orlando Brown Jr., OT/G Andrew Wylie, OG/C Nick Allegretti, DT Derrick Nnadi, DT Khalen Saunders, S Juan Thornhill

7. The Chiefs sign QB Jarrett Stidham (Raiders) for 1 year, $2m; WR Keenan Allen (Chargers) 3 years, $35m; S CJ Gardner-Johnson (Eagles) 4 years, $52m.

8. The CB Rashad Fenton 7th round pick qualifies.

NFL Draft picks:
  1. The Chiefs trade their 2nd round pick and the Edwards-Helaire 5th to move up several selections in the 2nd round.
  2. 2nd. DE Derick Hall, Auburn
  3. 3rd (Tunsil). OT Tyler Steen, Alabama
  4. 3rd. DT Mazi Smith, Michigan
  5. 4th. RB Kenny McIntosh, Georgia
  6. 5th. OG/C Juice Scruggs, Penn State
  7. 6th. S Trey Dean III, Florida
  8. 6th (Pringle). LB Ventrell Miller, Florida
  9. 6th (Reed). DE Robert Beal, Georgia
  10. 7th (Fenton). CB Rejzohn Wright, Oregon State
  11. 7th (Hughes). RB Mohamed Ibrahim, Minnesota

I don’t ……..hate it. I’m not sure about it but i think that team is better than the one that just won the sb

O.city 03-07-2023 09:14 AM

I’d go with Niang at rt and draft someone else (wr) where steen is

Direckshun 03-07-2023 09:14 AM

By my calculations, the Chiefs will still be in the market for 2-3 compensatory picks next year anyway.

Brown
JuJu
Mecole
Wylie
Thornhill

Allen and CJGJ cancel two of those out. The Chiefs will probably bring in two higher comp picks and then a couple lower ones, as per usual.

Allen > JuJu
MVS, Toney, Moore, Watson all returning

The one thing this WR corps doesn't have is a Hardman type, so I inserted John Ross into there.

I think it's about the same as last year. And, sadly, the offense will need Kelce to be All World for another year.

Projected roster entering next offseason

QB: Mahomes
RB: Pacheco, McIntosh, Ibrahim
FB:

WR: Allen, Toney, Moore
TE: Kelce, Gray

LT: Tunsil
LG: Thuney, Scruggs
C: Humphrey, Scruggs
RG: Smith, Kinnard
RT: Steen

DE: Hall, Beal
DT: Jones
DT: Smith
DE: Karlaftis, Danna

WLB: Gay, Miller
MLB: Bolton, Chenal
SLB: Chenal, Cochrane

CB: Sneed, McDuffie, Watson, Williams, Johnson, Wright
S: Gardner-Johnson, Reid, Cook, Dean

K: Butker
P: Townsend
LS: Winchester

The team will have a 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 2-4 compensatory picks.

They're going to have hard decisions on paying Chris Jones, I do not think they extend Willie Gay as Nick Bolton will be the priority, and I think they cut Justin Reid to save $10m. I think they'll extend Humphrey a year early, wait out Trey Smith another season.

There isn't many places to drop coin other than perhaps DT if Chris Jones moves on. They're going to have anywhere from 8 to 10 more draft picks to grab a starting LB and body out DT, WR, and a swing tackle.

I thought the Chargers' GM was pretty clear about Keenan Allen going nowhere.

They can restructure Bosa and Linsley and cut Mack and have some space. I don't think he's kidding.

I question KC trading for Tunsil. As much as I like him, I really don't think it's going to be something that happens and if it does it won't be for this year's 1st. I'd probably lean toward a 3rd this year and 1st next year or something like that.

Honestly, I wouldn't make a move until I saw where OBj signs. If he goes to Chicago, that pushes all the LT prospects down a peg in the draft with Johnson probably coming off the board at 11 instead of inside the top 10. If he goes to Tennessee or New England, that also helps us.

I don't think you're getting Derick Hall at 56 or later. Seems too late in the 2nd. That's pushing the limit of where a 5th would get you. I don't mind the draft overall.

Tunsil just fits to a T what they need and want in a LT. If you can make that trade.....I think you do it.

Why would the Texans trade away Tunsil when they are likely drafting a QBOTF? Seems like a guy they'd want to keep around.

Not challenging, legitimately asking.

I’ve thought about that and they could keep him to protect the rookie. But he only has one year left on his deal and probably wants to get a top contract like Brown. They could trade him now and get a high pick for him, while also finding a cheaper (younger) option at LT. If they let him play out his deal, then they have to worry about the franchise tag and whether he’ll play.

That's where I'm at. They need to find a new LT regardless.

I was waiting for a mock like this to come out after all of the news the last few days. I'd live to land a guy like Tunsil.

Direckshun 03-07-2023 10:43 AM

Tunsil's been wanting out.

The Chiefs want to pay Brown top dollar. Why not just pay a better tackle the same $$$?

The biggest obstacle would be getting Clark to part with a 1st when we're hosting the draft, but Clark cares more about protecting Patrick Mahomes.

This free agency/draft gives Mahomes better protection than he had last year, better weapons than he had last year, a defensive line that's about on par with last year's, and a better secondary than the one we had last year.

Because OBJ doesn’t require the draft capital + the monster deal.

That said, if Veach thinks Tunsil warrants picks + money over OBJ & just money, then who am I to judge?

O.city 03-07-2023 11:44 AM

If they wanna lock down the LT spot for the next 4/5 years, Tunsil would make sense.

If Allen is available it’s because he’s released so he wouldn’t count against the compensatory formula.

kccrow 03-07-2023 12:30 PM

Why not just send 31, 95, and a 2024 1st to Houston for pick 12 and take a LT on a rookie deal? Makes alot more sense to me than sending a bunch of draft picks to them for Tunsil and then handing him 25-26m a year.

If you're trading for Tunsil, **** it, just trade Chris Jones right now.

They may trade Chris Jones. It’s not clear to me how they can keep him on his current number.

Brown is younger and more accomplished than Tunsil, but I do think Tunsil is better. Only Paris Johnson comes within a mile of him. Skoronski is a guard, there’s no way they take him for LT.

Which is why I think KC grabs Robinson or Woods to add a Vet to the WR room.

They're just kicking the can on a Jones extension? Let him test his massive FA market next year?

I think there's a real chance.
