I wonder if this is purely contract related, or if the holding issues/drama/speculation factors in?

Kman34 03-10-2023 04:53 PM

Punters grow on trees..

Wisconsin_Chief 03-10-2023 05:02 PM

Wow, interesting. Think he’s pretty likely to get poached by someone.

A sex act wherein the male ejaculates onto the females face, wipes it up with his scrotum and the female proceeds to suck them clean.

Exactly! . They are worried about his holding so much that they are offering him a 300% increase in pay. :doh!:

Obscure sex acts aren't really in my wheelhouse, so I had to ask. I'd be so grateful just busting on her face, I know i'd forget the rest of it. She'd have to do all the work from that point on.:p

I doubt it frankly. Even if they do, I believe the chiefs have the right to match. Teams hate doing the negotiation legwork for another team.

This is why this is happening, right? Veach is letting the market tell him what to pay Townsend, instead of trying to figure it out on his own.

I mean, the tender is just a cost controlled, no risk contract for the team. It's a good deal for the team.

I meant doing this instead of, say, negotiating a big extension.

That would be the 8th highest cap hit for a punter next season. And more than he made total his first three years. I'm surprised that this is the lowest tender amount for punters. Seems high.

Rainbarrel 03-10-2023 09:01 PM

He's punting is rather limited. Twice a game on less than stellar outings

baitism 03-13-2023 11:13 AM

Why wouldn't a punter want to be somewhere where they can punt a little and win Lombardi's?

He’s very fortunate that the OL was so bad and the receivers were dropping everything in that Buccaneers Super Bowl. Also lucky the refs were so bad.

Townsend was terrible in that game too, but he’s pretty far down the list and went mostly unnoticed.

Gary Cooper 03-13-2023 11:45 AM

Don't need him. We're not punting next season. Andy will go for every 4th down regardless of field position.

We'll teach the backup QB to be a placeholder like in former days (or at least it was on Madden).

They should just end punting. Must go for it on 4th down.

Im saying as a rule. Make it illegal to punt. It would be a more fun sport to watch.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but Townsend is a RFA, right? Which means he can't just be poached; KC has the opportunity to match, correct?

So based on the number of suitors Townsend gets, it can tell Veach something about the market, or so I assume.

DJ's left nut 04-26-2023 08:30 AM

I don't think this happening right before the draft is a coincidence.

Townsend was excellent last season - but he's still just a punter and punters are almost completely fungible. Townsend himself was a UDFA who won an off-season competition.

Tommy - we can make another one just like ya. You want a little long-term security or do you really want to head into this draft with a team that has more late round picks than likely roster spots and run the risk of getting priced into FA...

RealSNR 04-26-2023 08:58 AM

He had some untimely shanks his first couple years, but has turned into a top punter. Not to mention he was clutch on that fake punt throw last year (forgot which game)

Now if he would be so kind as to get signed by a stupid team to a long term deal so we can get a comp pick out of him on his way out, that would be great

The deal he signed almost had to be a 3-4 year deal. Maybe longer.

I don't think the deal being reported was just him signing the RFA tender. I'm betting they agreed on a LTC.

I think it was just his tender. I haven't seen anything reported about a LTC.

Well that ain't even news then.

Was there some belief that the ****ing punter was going to sit out?

Womble 04-26-2023 09:48 AM

If he could get his ball placement right for Butker this season I'll be mightily pleased.

BWillie 04-26-2023 10:13 AM

We spent too much on a punter. Makes little difference since punters dont make money anyway but it is a minor misstep

Molitoth 04-26-2023 10:20 AM

The punter becomes much less important when you have the best QB in the league.
