I’m confused

This Hurts deal makes no sense.

Mahomes is the best in the league. Nobody should be making more than him.

Yet, Wilson, Rodgers, and Hurts have signed bigger contracts. Why are the teams paying this kind of money?

Kman34 04-17-2023 04:36 PM

They are dumb… That’s why..

CaliforniaChief 04-17-2023 04:39 PM

Because the market is exploding, and the Chiefs have a unicorn who wanted a long-term deal with the security. I'm sure the Chiefs will adjust the contract and do whatever they have to in order to make PM2 happy.

scho63 04-17-2023 04:40 PM

This is why Brett Veach has been my "Adopt-a-Chief" since 2017.

He's no dumb ****.

Chieftain 04-17-2023 04:40 PM

Deshaun's contract spearheaded the whole thing and that became the standard to compare future contracts.

It's insane to think Daniel Jones now earns $3 million less annually than Josh Allen.

Bearcat 04-17-2023 04:42 PM

I'm confused how you can still create threads.

Mahommy does have a 49 million hit this year

Takes a Wr group of scrubs and wins the bowl, I would say he's worth every penny of it.

wazu 04-17-2023 04:53 PM

After Mahomes signed his deal he let other players on the team know he left money on the table for them. He's just built different.

OKchiefs 04-17-2023 04:55 PM

because that’s how contracts work. Kelce isn’t the highest paid TE either. Born yesterday?

ToxSocks 04-17-2023 05:00 PM

You new to football or something?

displacedinMN 04-17-2023 05:38 PM

More money will make him play better

LagunaSWana 04-17-2023 05:42 PM

I too, am confused...about why this is a new thread and not in the Hurts thread.

We'll see if the Ravens strategy of not having a QB works out better.

chiefzilla1501 04-17-2023 05:42 PM

You think these teams have a choice? Hurts knows that if Philly doesn’t pay it someone else will. That is what drives his value, not mahomes

I’m not convinced they ever really had one

dolphinsneu 04-17-2023 05:56 PM

Mahomes does not even rank in the top five highest paid quarterbacks, I think.

Anybody got the full data on that one?

Couch-Potato 04-17-2023 06:00 PM

Inflation.

I remember thinking McDonalds Hash Browns were the worst ROI on the $1 menu. Now, there's no $1 menu and a single McDonalds Hash Brown costs $3.18.

dolphinsneu 04-17-2023 06:05 PM

You figure teams would learn from Denver and Green Bay

Pasta Little Brioni 04-17-2023 06:27 PM

Because the contracts are broken as **** and always have been

Dunerdr 04-17-2023 06:44 PM

The finger stays OUTSIDE the asshole. ;)

Stewie 04-17-2023 06:57 PM

Teams think if they pay more than Mahomes' contract their QB will suddenly be better than Mahomes.

Google is hard

FlaChief58 04-17-2023 07:10 PM

Mahomes and the Chiefs were so far ahead of the game with that contract. What once had people scratching their heads and laughing, is looking more like a bargain with every new qb deal

Bold strategy without a doubt

Bearcat 04-17-2023 07:13 PM

It's actually really well structured.

Bump 04-17-2023 07:19 PM

Mahomes signed that contract like 3 years ago, it goes up every year. He's got long term security and wants to top Brady for number of rings so he signed a very team friendly deal.

This is actually a phenomenal deal for Hurts and the Eagles. I will admit I didn’t think Hurts was that good all year but boy did he prove me wrong in the Super Bowl. He was nails

It’s a five year deal so adding those numbers up and subtracting from 255 would be the final year, right?

dolphinsneu 04-17-2023 07:33 PM

I wonder what putting the franchise tag on a quarterback costs now

Correct, his cap hit in 2027 will be $182 million.

Rasputin 04-17-2023 07:35 PM

Let them squander their money who give id be ore worried if they didn't. We have the best GM in the business and you question what other teams do? Lmao.

Hey ****tard, do you think you’re typing into Google or what?

Chiefshrink 04-17-2023 09:31 PM

Pat cares more about winning than $$ and why he gave the Chiefs Brass a real deal steal. Be thankful that his character knows what is really important and it's NOT how much he makes never allowing $$ to effect his ego. But since half this board lives vicariously through Pat and are a bunch of insecure wannabes they will be butt hurt that Pat is not thee highest paid player. Pat's about RINGS NOT $$. Besides Clark will take care of him over time I assure you.;)

wazu 04-17-2023 09:46 PM

It's actually pretty silly to compare the Mahomes contract to other QB contracts. Mahomes is now a brand. He's his own corporation. His NFL pay is one part of his financial equation. The best business decision for him is to NOT squeeze the Chiefs for every salary cap dollar they have and he gets it.

lol there is something wrong with those numbers Shefter posted though.

A 5-year extension with only 1.4 added onto his 2023 salary (he's at 4.7 now) means those last 2 seasons not posted would account for 186.5 million. He isn't making 93 per over the last two years.

Mahomes is likely going to be a billionaire before he retires, or shortly thereafter.

I haven't looked up the numbers, but I'd guess he's already making far more from endorsements than he is from the Chiefs.
