Chiefs sign UDFA CB Kahlef Hailassie from Western Kentucky
This was one of my favorite day 3 prospects. Not sure what happened, but apparently he's a Chief now
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Let’s try this again... <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/ChiefsKingdom?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#ChiefsKingdom</a> <a href="https://t.co/dm2YGjGAqy">pic.twitter.com/dm2YGjGAqy</a></p>— Kahlef Hailassie (@YoungLeaf24) <a href="https://twitter.com/YoungLeaf24/status/1655413885086625792?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 8, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
Apparently he told the Jets to **** off...he's a really good system fit so there will be a ton of competition for that last DB spot.
|
Let’s ****ing GOOOOO!!!!
|
I think a lot of rookie dbs and their agents have taken notice that the chiefs actually give their late round corners opportunities and have somewhat of a track record of developing them. Nic Jones mentioned it too and specifically noted Watson and Williams.
Chiefs might be a hotbed for developmental db talent |
Jones and Hailassie are both guys that could easily make the 53 man roster, so I think they'll be battling it out for a spot.

Does he play ST?
|
Feel like his ceiling is Dale Carter and his floor James Hasty
Really nice signing |
The HOF isn't big enough to house all of these superstars.
|
His eyes are.....interesting.

I don't think we've lost any other CBs or even fringe roster candidates, have we? Nazeeh is firmly in the crosshairs. |

Nazeeh Johnson made some big plays on ST. He's tall and rapid, I'm kinda hoping he sticks around. But this is an intriguing pick up.

Quote:
Snead McDuffie Williams Watson Reid Cook Edwards Conner So that is basically 1 roster spot being competed for by Nazeeh Johnson Nic Jones Kahlef Hailassie Deon Bush and really any other DB on the roster. |

Although Bengals cut Lammons so is he gonna end up back here too? |
Could be a "trade a CB for some depth at another position this year" kinda thing.

We’re not ever paying a boundary corner with this staff, and for good reason.
We kept 6 corners on the week 1 depth chart last year. Sneed, McDuffie, Williams, Watson, Jones. That’s 5, and I think Conner takes someone’s job being the 4th safety. He might have a chance. |

Conner is basically a more athletic guy brought in to be what Sorensen use to be, a guy that can play up in the box, LB in passing downs, deep safety even out in the slot and also be a special teams capatain. |
I'm really excited about this guy. I know nothing about him, but if Veach likes him I'm excited about him.
|
Have we inducted this piece of shit yet?
|
This team shits out corners
|
Why did he burn out on the Jets?

What a luxury. And it makes sense that you can do it with DBs. I mean there are so many of them out there every year and if you know what you are looking for. Why the hell not just go cheap on the position. |

Mecca beat me to it. It is essential this team has a pass rush. Mahomes can put massive pressure on the other team to pass and we need the dogs out there to make them pay for it. |
They better widen the ROH, they're going to be needing some extra space.

Interesting they would go so far to “poach” another UDFA…
That it’s a DB means to me that all available cap is going to Jones, and Sneed is a question mark. If we’re not going to keep Sneed in the end, something better than a potential comp pick would sure be helpful in the long run. Loading up on DB’s and letting the biggest dogs win.. |

Gotta think one of these guys ends up being a plus player. We're just throwing so many darts one must hit. It does make me think of the Sneed situation. Year before this last one I wondered if he was a bit overrated and replaceable, this year he just seemed so important. Some of what he brings is probably replicable with some of these later rate round guys or someone like Conner, but a lot isn't imo. He might get caught flat footed and lose guys sometimes, but his speed and physicality are a step above anything else we have.
I think these flyers round out the safety and CB rooms really well. I'm just hoping we can keep Sneed without paying silly money too. Sneed, McDuffie and the best of the rest just looks really, really solid. We'll never get an elite CB but we can have a group without an obvious weak link. |
I wonder if they’ve had conversations internally about trading Sneed.
What brings the Chiefs more value? Keeping Sneed for the last year of his rookie deal and then collecting a comp pick in the 2025 draft for him… Or Trading him for what I’d guess would be a second round pick. I’d have to think if we couldn’t get a 2, we would go with option 1.. |
PRINT. THEM.

It is an interesting idea. It does have a practical side, but I don't think the Chiefs would do it. If you did this wouldn't all the good young Chief draft picks think, I'm not long for this team? They are just going to trade me and move on so I am not sacrificing for the team. |
Quote:
Well, how in TF did someone with a floor like that go unfrafted? |
Quote:
I would think they would want to keep him for this year for a solid run at the Super Bowl. That's worth more than future picks. The other guys are still developing and we need his presence on the field. I'd hate to see them trade him away because this is going to be one of if not the best defense in history of the Chiefs. This secondary will be second to none. We need Snead. These guys will then have another year under the belt so our future is still bright. |
