You believe everything you read on Twitter smh

Megatron96 05-10-2023 07:00 PM

Hmm. Guess we're going to see how much DET has actually improved. They looked pretty tough in their last six or so games, especially on defense. And didn't they have a pretty good draft on that side of the ball?

Good thing they're a NFC team. Andy usually feasts on NFC teams.

007 05-10-2023 07:02 PM

According to that guy we play:

1 - vDET
2 - vPHIL
7 - vCHI
9 - vMIA
10 - aLV
11 - BYE
12 - vBUF
13 - aMIN
14 - vLV
15 - vDEN
17 - vCIN

Make of that what you will I guess if you think he's legit

They were really good on offense and terrible on defense.

Yep. But the last few games everyone was buzzing about how fast their defense was improving. And that last game vs. GB they looked very physical and nasty. And they added some nice pieces to that defense, I think. Or rather, a lot of the analysts thought they added some good defensive players in the draft (possibly FA as well).

Just saying, we shouldn't expect it to be some kind of cakewalk if they play like they did in the last month or so of the 2022.

I believe Minnesota will be a road game next year, so it shouldn’t be them.

lewdog 05-10-2023 08:13 PM

Holy shit OP, you think the nfl schedules the defending champs to play a meaningless matchup to start the year?

You’re better than this.

Stewie 05-10-2023 08:16 PM

My guess is the Chargers for Week 1.

Buffalo makes sense, but they did the opener last year.

Philly won't happen because they don't want a SB rematch Week 1.

lcarus 05-10-2023 08:17 PM

I know it's looked like it the last couple years but damn....our schedule is gonna be super tough this year.

We'll still probably go 14-3.

BigRedChief 05-10-2023 08:20 PM

Hard to believe. The last few years they wanted top tier teams playing each other in the opener.

Megatron96 05-10-2023 08:22 PM

It does seem odd that we'd play DET in week 1.

If it’s real don’t the Lions have lots of suspensions? Are they season long or weeks? Could be a good time to play them if the latter.

tk13 05-10-2023 09:34 PM

Yeah that's the only issue I see is that Jameson Williams is suspended. Otherwise I could see it, that offense is super legit. Beast of an offensive line and great skill position players. Great bet for a high scoring game.

Bump 05-10-2023 09:36 PM

Lions turned into a good team the second half of last season. We'll put them off to another bad start.

Apparently, DET cut one of the offenders and the other two are suspended indefinitely, I guess until the NFL reviews their cases?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but when the NFL says 'indefinitely,' that's usually a year.

FloridaMan88 05-10-2023 10:52 PM

Last time Detroit played at Arrowhead… Trent Green vs Joey Harrington… it’s been a minute.

Buns 05-10-2023 10:57 PM

Detroit makes sense. The kickoff hasn’t been a rivalry game or one with a narrative, not counting Bears-Packers for the NFL 100 season, since Giants-Cowboys in 2012.

They put a game they hope is going to be competitive, but not a game with any buzz. The first game doesn’t need any buzz; almost every Chiefs game has buzz. Bears would be a good pick, if that game isn’t in Europe.

Detroit makes no sense. Detroit would be the first non playoff team to be in the opening game, I'm pretty sure. They always put another playoff team. Detroit sucks shit.

ThyKingdomCome15 05-11-2023 02:00 AM

I didn't want to play a real team week 1 anyway. Remember that time Alex Smith and company spoiled NE's banner night? That was amazing!! But now that the shoe is on the other foot... eff that. LMAO

Eh. May not be justified, but there's a lot of hype about the Lions finally taking that step forward into true contender this year. Look at most power rankings and they're pretty consistently only behind the Eagles and 49ers while being interchangeable with the Cowboys and Giants.

100%.

The biggest issue with the Lions is that they're perpetually waffling between worst team in the league to "almost there". Kind of like the Browns.

In general, I hope this next season is the year they put it together and make some waves in the NFC playoffs, but would rather their season get on the right track after week 1, obviously.

I mean, they did okay. They were beating teams like the Jets, Bears, and Packers. Their best win of the season was probably beating the Jaguars, and they managed to split with the Vikings.

I expect them to be fired up and give us a game, but Campbell/Goff aren't coming into Arrowhead and beating Reid/Mahomes.

Jesus, so much wrong on this post.

1) Momentum doesn’t carry over from the following year.

2) They lost Jamison to a BS suspension.

3) Lions draft was terribad. Spend 1sts on a RB and LB and other miscues.

They’ll probably win the North, but only because the division is bad.

35-20 beatdown.

Hoover 05-11-2023 07:33 AM

It's a great opportunity for the Lions to set the tone for their season. In someways I view it like when we opened the season vs the Patriots in 2017.

Now I think playing the Lions is perfect, because the advantage of opening your season on Thursday is you get a little mini bye which I think is an advantage. I'd rather see an NFC team get that then say the Dolphins (That is the season opener if I'm the NFL).

I don't disagree at all that the Lions are a fun matchup. They were a great watch last year in lots of their games (go check out the 4th quarter of their week 18 win against the Packers and some of that playcalling). It's just a VERY odd choice for the NFL that they had their pick of the Bills, Bengals, or Eagles for our opener, and they chose the Lions for the opening matchup. That is entirely against what they've done in prior seasons.

Ravens/Broncos
Pats/Steelers
Broncos/Panthers (SB rematch)
Pats/Chiefs
Bears/Packers (non-SB winner for the NFL's 100th season)
Bucs/Cowboys
Rams/Bills
Chiefs/Lions

Which of those games looks different from the others??

What do they really get out of it though? Are they getting ad revenue from ESPN coverage or I guess if people actually go to NFL.com to see all these leaks?

I get they've turned the NFL into a 12-month thing to be talked about, but it's not like people will suddenly forget it exists if they just released the ****ing schedule all at one... and unless there's some monetary benefit of these "leaks", I don't really see the point.

It is extremely stupid, but it's generating conversation and clicks which is all they care about. Eventually, you would think there is going to be an oversaturation problem but it sure doesn't seem to be happening yet. When you never really get a chance to miss football, it will take away some of the excitement.

It keeps them at the top of the news cycle. There's a tangible benefit to that.

Wisconsin_Chief 05-11-2023 07:41 AM

So in all seriousness, this is pretty cool for the Lions but the lights are going to be way too damn bright for them. Feels like the league is giving us an opening week showcase game to just steamroll an up and coming team and show how dominant we are. Detroit doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell to win this one.

apologize to me

If you would've posted it under the banner of a reputable news organization like the Chiefs Kingdom Editorial Board, we all would've believed you from the start.

Gonna find out quite a bit about Smith and Taylor at OT as they go against that Lions front, particularly James Houston IV who broke out in the 2nd half of the '22 season.

he was one of my sleepers headed into the '22 draft. Still can't believe we didn't poach him from the Lions practice squad.

I'd guess fox has the Philly game and blocked it to keep and CBS wants to keep Bills and Bengals.

As I posted yesterday, it still doesn't make sense... They could have had the Chargers, Raiders or Broncos, all better matchups to the average fan. No complaint from me though.

Raiders or Broncos....nah.

Chargers maybe, but I doubt anyone wants a division game to start the season?

With Dan Campbell being an energy kind of coach I fully expect the Lions to come out swinging. Theyll probably go for any 4th and short. Winning this game could be a trajectory changer for them on the season.
