Dan Snyder officially out of the NFL

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">A monumental Washington day: NFL owners now have unanimously approved the $6.05 billion sale of the Washington Commanders from Dan Snyder to a group led by Josh Harris, per league source.</p>&mdash; Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1682130421360852994?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 20, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Curious to see what laundry he airs now.

WhawhaWhat 07-20-2023 02:59 PM

Pathetic but I doubt he cares.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">In Dan Snyder’s 24 seasons as owner, Washington had six playoff appearances, two playoff wins, no NFC Championship Game appearances, 10 different head coaches, 27 different starting quarterbacks, and a .427 winning percentage, which ranked 27th in the NFL.</p>&mdash; Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1682131072178438145?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 20, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

LMAO More starting QBs than seasons.

TLO 07-20-2023 03:04 PM

The Commanders just traded their 1st and 2nd round pick for a running back in his honor.

So they appeared in as many NFC championships in 24 years as the Dallas Cowboys?

Now if we could only get rid of Roger Goodell.

chiefzilla1501 07-20-2023 03:30 PM

I mean after decades of incompetence and egregious misconduct he walks away with billions.

It's everything wrong with sports. Bad owners should feel some hurt when they do a shitty job. It might motivate to actually at least try to put a good product on the field

DJ's left nut 07-20-2023 03:33 PM

"Approved $6.05 Billion sale..."

Yeah, the NFL sure showed HIM...

Bought 'em for $800 million.

Now don't get me wrong, figures that large carry debt service, but they also get VERY good rates of return. 800 million at 10% would double roughly every 7 years and so he actually yielded LESS than a 10% annual ROI (which would've yielded in the $9 billion range over his 25 years of ownership) But that also assumes only break-even revenues on a year to year basis and that's almost certainly not the case.

Now a 10% ROI isn't easy to get, but remember what they say - "How do you make a large fortune? Start with a small one..." When you starting with $800 million in liquidity, it's more doable than you realize.

Sassy Squatch 07-20-2023 03:39 PM

Gruden is also lurking in the shadows ready to go scorched earth. Could be very intredasting soon

Chieftain 07-20-2023 03:48 PM

Harris also owns the Devils. He is a great owner that isn't afraid to spend money.
First thing he needs to do is change the team name.

Mecca 07-20-2023 03:50 PM

It's gonna be funny when they tank super hard for like 3 years to rebuild the team...

I think they should change their name to the Washington Whiskies.

Very little to none would be my guess. I’m sure the NFL buttoned him up with a non disclosure clause prior to the approval of the sale. Nobody will say so but I’d be very surprised if we hear much from Daniel Snyder again (at least in regards to the NFL).

So, magic johnson is part owner.
How much does he really own?

NBC is interviewing him and not the person with the deep pockets. Hmmm.

That is all the more into politics I will take this thread.

I just did a quick search and found this in an article, Magic owns 4% according to the article.

Harris' slice will obviously be the biggest, and he stands to have a 30 percent ownership stake in the franchise. The rest will be divided among his 17 limited partners, including Los Angeles Lakers icon and NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson and billionaire businessman Mitchell Rales. The latter's share will be 12 percent with Johnson set to hold four percent.

displacedinMN 07-21-2023 07:05 AM

wow 4%
And he gets an interview on NBC

jjchieffan 07-21-2023 09:54 AM

After finding out that he was fined $60M by the NFL, the $.05B part makes more sense. It looks like he added that in just to get the new ownership to pay most of his fine.

displacedinMN 07-21-2023 10:05 AM

60 M helps pay for the new Bills Stadium

Now a 10% ROI isn't easy to get, but remember what they say - "How do you make a large fortune? Start with a small one..." When you starting with $800 million in liquidity, it's more doable than you realize.

I mean, I get what youre saying. But it means that despite horrible performance for decades and all kinds of legal shit that forced him to sell at rock bottom, the worst you can say is he generated an average return.

So the absolute worst of the worst floor is average profit and the ceiling is massive riches. gotta be one of the safest investments imaginable. There's gotta be some skin in the game for owners. Cities shouldn't be handcuffed to the owner who has no accountability for bad performance.

spanky 52 07-22-2023 07:19 AM

I'm happy for Washington fans. Snyder was the worst owner in the NFL without a doubt.

chiefzilla1501 07-22-2023 07:21 AM

Don't worry, Detroit. All you need is for the Ford family to murder someone them thumb their nose at the legal process and there's an outside chance you might finally get an owner who knows how to win.

ThaVirus 07-22-2023 09:13 AM

I’ve got a lot of family in the DMV who were huge Redskins fans who had completely checked out over the last decade. I haven’t even heard anyone talking about this much, but I know everyone is happy.

I hope they change the name to something better and right the ship a bit. They don’t bother us much in the NFC East and they’re more likable than the Eagles or Cowboys.

wazu 07-22-2023 09:19 AM
