Working from home is great unless.........

your internet and TV provider suffers an outage. Cox hit the skids about 80 minutes ago.

If not back up, I'll go to my favorite local bar Fate and work from there while I drink alcohol.

Just won't make my usual phone calls.

Win-win!

That what I have done when needed. It is a great backup plan at least.

My working from home is great unless... story is a little different. My 84 year old dad has started to struggle some with day to day stuff. So, since I work from "home" I am now commuting again after 4 years so I can work from his place every day. It is great for him but not nearly so much for me.

Bearcat 09-18-2023 01:22 PM

Ask Fate if they're coming out with their barrel aged King Sized Candy Bar Stout this year.... they didn't last year and they haven't updated their FB page in like 3 months. :cuss:

BryanBusby 09-18-2023 01:23 PM

When that happens I take a nap. Win win

I think this is done every year. What location were you at? I'm pretty sure I had some last year.

They have the regular octane Candy Bar Stout every year (the blue cans if you buy the cans, ~8% and not barrel aged).

Last year was the first time in recent years they didn't make the King Sized version (red cans, ~11-12%, barrel aged)... no idea why or if it's coming back this year, but IMO it's easily the best beer they produce.

It's usually released right around Halloween, so I'd expect a FB announcement any day now.

Don’t you have 30 years of IT experience? Shouldn’t you be able to troubleshoot your own internet?

BigRichard 09-18-2023 02:50 PM

I am actually going to buy the gear for Starlink so I can have both eventually. We plan on living a couple of months in our 5th wheel down in Florida during winter. Going to use Starlink during that time for work. Just pay for Starlink when I need it.

It's better now, but there was a several year period during the covid work from home peak when Comcast internet in my area would routinely go out.

Like it was happening weekly. But there wasn't/isn't a viable alternative for broadband in my area. Don't you just love the free market monopoly?

Having no competition, they didn't have much incentive to fix their shit. At&t nominally provided broadband, but it was worse.

When it did go down, the cellular phone network got overwhelmed with traffic and became completely useless.

They are scheduled for release this year but the brewer thought last year's batch was subpar and they didn't release.

Sitting here now drinking and eating.

Sweet, thanks for checking on it! PBJ

I haven't been there in a while, but tend to go to the south Scottsdale location... IIRC, they've had slightly different menu options that I tend to go for.

Same issue with Sparklight... I even knew a couple who moved from a different part of town into the same neighborhood and said it went to shit. I was calling them 3 times/week at one point, even for small 5 minute outages, much less the half-day shit.

I went with TMobile Home Internet for a bit, but found out it was actually worse, and had to crawl back to Sparklight. :#

There isn't a house in my neighborhood under $500,000 (probably not one less $600K+, I haven't checked in a while) and the only option [discounting satellite, etc] is Comcast. Customer service sucks. The price sucks. And for several years the internet service itself used to go out on a near weekly basis.

kcfan75 09-19-2023 06:52 AM

In the Summer, I take my sons to the gym, pool, trampoline park, etc. and just work from there. Modern day phone hot spots are fast enough to get the basic's done.

I'm a software engineer so I wouldn't be doing much developing over it.

So do I.

A contractor cut the line and the need to redo a whole large section of relaying fiber underground.

Quite a cluster****.

His point wasn't a humble brag. He was countering the point that nicer neighborhoods have better internet service choices. I'm in the same boat. We have the choice of ATT Uverse or nothing (besides shitty cell internet)

BigRedChief 09-19-2023 04:05 PM

Yeah WTF, you living way out in the country? You can’t find a house around here for $500K. We paid $350K in 2013 at the very bottom of the market. The house we lived in lees summit for years we bought for $230K is now worth $500K.

LOL, that's not even a little true, unless "around here" means beachfront property... there's plenty of relatively cheap property around St. Pete.

Pablo 09-19-2023 05:17 PM

In my neighborhood every house is worth at least 1.5mm and we have nine choices of internet providers.

So... all of St Pete, minus that one stretch north of downtown and the beachfront stuff is poor and undesirable?

(and these are all listed as houses with at least one bed/one bath; no condos/studio apts/lots of land/etc.)

I have google too.
Dude why are you arguing? Just to argue? You think Dafsce is FOS too? WTF? Most of those houses are 800-1500 sq feet.

And yes, the only place that’s “most desirable” is downtown and on the water. Just like every other city in America.

I was the first to move from a traditional district office to home for a fortune 500. Tough working through the transition with staff

But the new office at home was a challenge as we had no high speed. Company paid for DSL.

Managed staff in 22 states and actually made the change great

But when it goes down.....kick back and relax, aint your fault.
