Ending of OSU ND game perfect example of how football is being ruined.
What a game it had been!! Comes down to 4th and goal at the 1 and half with ND clinging to a 4 point lead 3 seconds on the clock.OSU runs it, dives into the EZ breaking the plane on the last play!! Bucks win 16-14!!!
Just a few short years ago the fans would have been running onto the field in a state of euphoria as OSU walks off a great top 10 matchup. It's pandemonium....but nahhhh. We as fans in bars, parties, our living rooms and at the stadium were forced to just sit there for 7 or 8 minutes while the officials dissected every frame of the final play like it was footage of the Kennedy assassination. And as ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS(see Jets Pats today) there is miraculously 1 second on the clock. Now they have to kick the XP. Unimaginable that Ryan Day the head coach of a top NCAA program in the country DOES NOT KNOW THE RULES!!! Should have kneeled because kicking it has nothing to gain and everything to lose. If it is blocked and returned they could lose the game! With 1 sec left and your team kicking off there is no difference from being up 2 or 3. So now all the OSU fans are more stressed about that scenario, except for OSU bettors. After more commercials they come back for the kickoff. ND attempts a crazy lateral play that fails and the game is finally over. But by that time the whole experience of that all time great game was ruined. As OSU fans we weren't excited and joyful like we were when OSU scored on the "final play" We were just aggravated people saying"Can you believe what these fn refs put us through" By the time the clock got to 0:00 there was no joy left, just aggravation and relief. Crap like this is killing the game of football. |
Tyvm, it needed to be said sweetie, and you just said it.

You can’t enjoy a play anymore, I’m always waiting for a flag.

OP have money on the game?
I see zero problem with making sure it was a TD. What if it wasn’t? What if after the fact they realize there should have been 1 sec on the clock. |
Think that's bad? Try enjoying the first half of a blowout Chiefs game, and then the network switches the telecast to a Cardinals-Cowboys game at halftime.

I kind of see the point here and it does suck if it takes that long especially if it's not even close.
BUT, if your college program is expected to be good at the sport you are watching. It's highly frowned upon storming the field after a win. I remember at KU anytime we won a basketball game and if someone even suggested storming the court they'd get bitch slapped. Now football on the other hand, if they upset someone go right ahead and storm that field and tear down the goal posts lol. Except that one year they won the orange bowl. |
Would you rather they not get it right? Imagine if he was ruled short, no replay, but he actually broke the plane???
|
Why would Notre Dame fans rush the field in a loss lmao

What ruins football is an easily reviewable play not getting reviewed and then wondering "what if" years later. Cheapens the win for the winners, cuts deeper for the losers. It was a pretty obvious TD but also close enough that it should have been reviewed. I think most fans would rather they just get the call right.

You guys are making a huge deal over me saying fans would have stormed the field, wasn't the point. The point was the refs robbed the fans of that joyful feeling of the last second win. They weren't declared the winner of the game until a full 15 minutes after they scored on what should have been the final play. By the time that happened no one's mood was happy and psyched. It was just like "JFC it's finally over."
|
They need a ref in the booth who can see replays as quickly as the millions of people watching on TV and just call down to make the right call.
They need to get it right, but all the iPads and headsets and bullshit that each league uses is a ridiculous waste of time, especially when you know there's a good chance a play is going to result in a replay. It might still kill the buzz for a minute, but at least they'd get it right and there's no need to sit around for 5 minutes or more. |

Agreed on the review bit taking way too long, but, wasn't the game at Notre Dame? How many fans rush the field in a non-bowl away game? It has happened (Iowa taking the goofers goalposts was cheeky and fun) but is very rare. Also, this is Ohio State, not Navy or Hawaii, their fans have seen plenty of big games. Not sure they rush the field for anything other than beating Michigan or PedState.

To hell with both those teams
|
It's been like that for some time now. You can't go crazy anymore after any good play until the refs make up their ****ing minds. It's frustrating as a fan

Because the final touchdown was close enough to be reviewed, and was very important
I don’t think OSU would storm the field for beating ND, even if the game was played in Columbus When Missouri won 2 weeks ago we nailed the 61 yard kick and the fans immediately stormed the field. Reviews aren’t ruining CFB. Maybe if he had scored a no doubter touchdown against the 10-man Irish defense, there wouldn’t be a need for a review |

If Reid takes a knee to take away the chance of a block and return for 2 points that’s still a tie game. If we hit the extra point going up by 3 the worst that can happen on a return/flag/field goal is now a tie instead of the other team winning by 1 because you took a knee on that extra point. What’s higher odds? 1). Blocked extra point and returned by the defense for two points. OR 2). Kickoff return that has a flag attached to the end of the return to give the other team a long field goal chance? EXACTLY |
