Gabbert needs to be a better backup QB

I love that I am only worried a potential back up QB situation but Gabbert can't be throwing interceptions like today. If he is asked to step into a situation this season like Moore or Henne faced, I don't want him playing hero ball. Especially if the the Chiefs defense continues to play like this!

ThyKingdomCome15 09-24-2023 11:54 PM

Not everyone can be Chad Henne.

Bump 09-25-2023 12:19 AM

Ya getting a backup like Henne is a privilege not a normal thing.

BWillie 09-25-2023 12:29 AM

so glad we gave duechele to the bills

As I said in the level headed review thread - PTW got absolutely abused on the first Gabbert INT. Hard to tell exactly whose fault it was as the RDE was in Gabberts hip pocket when he threw the ball. The 2nd INT was all Rice. Ball hit him squarely in the hands he just vollyballed it to the defender. Can’t blame Gabbert for that.

Rice flat dropped pick 2

Bearcat 09-25-2023 05:02 AM

I think it's an easy assumption that Reid and everyone would be hammering the situation into his head if it was a playoff game or mattered at all, and play calling woild adjust for it... and hopeful he's not a butt ****ing moron and would understand the difference between a 41-0 game and pretty much any other situation.

He can **** around for a quarter and get some reps in a game like that though... who cares.

Yes. He let it bounce off his pads.

Yep. There is way more to this. Henne was damn good in his role.

You're saying we should bring in Stefon Diggs to tell Gabbert to be smart?

Or if we know of any good shrinks.

Bl00dyBizkitz 09-25-2023 05:38 AM

You know its the golden era of Chiefs football when people are making threads calling out our backup QB for not playing well enough in a blowout.

chiefzilla1501 09-25-2023 05:40 AM

I wasn't crazy about getting Gabbert. Still am not.

But man, Henne looked awful every time he was out there... except when games really mattered. So you kinda have to trust in Andy. But I don't entirely disagree with you.

Rainbarrel 09-25-2023 05:41 AM

They'll bring back Cam Irving to step on his foot if necessary

Dunerdr 09-25-2023 06:00 AM

Do you remember when our starters looked like our current back up out there? Peppridge farms remembers.

64 Chief 09-25-2023 06:01 AM

It looked like he was hit while throwing the first int and on the second the receiver had a catchable ball that he screwed up.

Direckshun 09-25-2023 06:06 AM

I never thought it would be a bad idea to spend some money for a Minshew- or Dalton-caliber backup.

Mahomes is a psychopath who will play through almost any injury, but he's been injured literally every year in the NFL. It's not inconceivable that he'll miss time any given season.

Get yourself a guy who can keep the ship afloat.

Monticore 09-25-2023 06:07 AM

This place is great , still finding things to complain about in a blowout win takes skill.

Brett Veach himself says the personnel department will turn over every stone to improve even the 53rd roster spot or the practice squad. That’s the same thing OP is saying. It’s not really a complaint.

He gets paid to do so , maybe they are paying some of you guys to whine about the team if so my bad.

Eleazar 09-25-2023 07:00 AM

He wasn't "playing hero ball", one of them bounced off Rice's chest and the other one it looked like he was getting hit. Did you even watch the game?

That's what I thought I saw also. I didn't find it important enough to track down a video on it. The beakers are never going to accept him but so what. Andy trusted him to be our best option for backup I believe in Andy over anyone on this board.

Wallcrawler 09-25-2023 07:44 AM

Lmfao.

Prince got beat like a government mule off the snap giving up the hit on Gabbert for the first pick, and if you want to complain about the second pick, then you must be furious with Mahomes for throwing the game away with a pick 6 to Detroit. Receivers get paid too bruh. Let's go ahead and give some criticism where it's ****ing due if the need to bitch after a blowout destruction is that overwhelming.

Imagine criticizing the backup qb in garbage time. Wow.

That's like saying the Chiefs need to play better defense for not shutting the bears out.

Correct on both accounts. Prince immitated OBJ at LT and Gabbert was hit on the first one, and Rice let the ball bounce off his pads on the 2nd one.
