How honorable is QuikTrip?

1 Attachment(s)
A few years ago I was working on cleaning out my storage building and in a box of random crap, I found a Squart in pristine condition. I held on to it because I tend to hold on to odd shit. For example, my current hobby is going to estate and garage sales ISO weird shit I can tuck away in the house so after I’m gone, the people cleaning out my crap can mutter, “What the ****, Bob?”.

But I digress. Contrary to their stated strategy of the mid 1980s where they closed stores outside metro areas (that’s how I ended up in KC), they recently opened a store in Texarkana, roughly 150 miles from a division office.

So now I have the opportunity to again get my 49 cent fountain refills! Or do I?

I’m going to try to find someone to accompany me and video my attempt to refill this 35 year old relic while the employees who have no idea this item ever existed try to figure out what the hell to do.

mlyonsd 09-29-2023 08:27 PM

I'll check my schedule and send you a PM with my available dates to make the trip.

threebag 09-29-2023 08:28 PM

Seems legit, enjoy the 49¢ refills :thumb:

I don’t recall an expiration date, and I can’t find an appropriate email address to ask on their website. Hell, the people at corporate probably weren’t around and have no idea what this is.

Megatron96 09-29-2023 08:38 PM

take video.

displacedinMN 09-29-2023 08:48 PM

had one. long gone

MarkDavis'Haircut 09-29-2023 08:50 PM

If they say yes, your bladder will have a QuikTrip.

Kiimo 09-29-2023 08:59 PM

Just checking in to say if there was one solitary company/franchise that I could pluck out of KC and bring to LA it would be QuickTrip. You don't know how lucky you have it.

Taco Via was close, though.

I'm guessing you put this on "X" or Facebook and tag QT in a post, you're going to get a king ransom...

Taco Via was close, though.

QT has been building all over the place around Austin the last couple of years. There are 2 within 3 miles of me and they are building a third.

threebag 09-29-2023 09:19 PM

They always have the happiest clerks, it’s like they have mounds of coke in the break room.

Megatron96 09-29-2023 09:21 PM

I would bet money that they honor the thing though.

Would be great marketing for this event.

jerryaldini 09-29-2023 10:01 PM

Get yourself a junkyard dog. Tell them Lamar sent you.

trndobrd 09-29-2023 10:05 PM

Based on some quik internet reseach and calculations:

A single three gallon box of syrup is about $90 retail....lets ball park $50 for massive bulk purchaser like QT. Makes 2300 fl oz of soda / 32 oz Squart refills = 71.8 Squart refills.

Syrup cost for QT is $0.704 per refill....will round up to $0.71 since each store has overhead. $0.71-$0.49= a loss of $0.22 for each refill of your squart.

QT is a privately held company, so I can't find the market cap. Annual sales are more than 500 million. At a loss of $0.22 per refill, you will bring QT to their knees in no time!

.....It's also possible the dude running checkout will realize he doesn't have a button for the item, and will just say 'cool bottle dude' and send you on your way...then later tell his buddies about some old guy who brought in a nasty old squeeze bottle for a refill.

PunkinDrublic 09-29-2023 10:06 PM

Hell if I were a QT manager, I’d let you fill it with your choice of booze for 49 cents.

New World Order 09-29-2023 10:15 PM

QT is gud

Last couple of time I had Taco Via were...yecht...Having said that they used to be one of my favorites. Yes Quiktrip is the best convenience/gas chain in the country.

KCrockaholic 09-29-2023 11:26 PM

QuikTrip is a smart and badass company/gas station. They’re also pretty honorable. Now a new employee may be confused at the cash register but he or she doesn’t represent the entire company. Regardless, give it a shot! QuikTrip is a great place.

Simply Red 09-29-2023 11:42 PM

A few things,

If you like to go to Swaps and Estate sales you're probably in the epicenter for those sorts.

I Found a Fonzie light up mini juke AM Radio from 1976 a few months ago up around Blood Mountain at this weird Estate Sale, also got a super creepy batman bust that was vintage. Find some badass stuff at them, I really need to call you to talk on this, some time.

I've noticed QuickTrip has gone WAY downhill starting maybe 1.5ish years ago, they struggle getting you in and out efficiently - Racetrac is now better (who'd have thought?) they're constantly out of ice and soda machine is constantly ****ed up to McDonald's broken ice-cream machine levels of ****t.

I found this Monster Aron from 1967 at a Flea here in midtown Atlanta - this bar invites all the freaks from Little Five to come in and bring their weird shit to sell. That same trip i got two Faces of Death VHS and some Ghost' Funko pops and concert local musician guides for super cheap -I think I sold my VHS for $70 for the pair - quick $60 profit.

It's interesting I am seeing complementary posts on QT in the few posts above - I often thought that - I think it's geography and not a widespread company issue. I really do. Been wanting to ask you guys, I actually was going to make up a thread on it. Our QTs are really bad down here, nothing like they were 3 short years ago. Racetrac has passed them up.

And while I'm at it - Walmart Customer Service is now better than Targets. At least down here. I buy a lot of collectibles is the only reason I have to frequent those store, oh who am I kiddin'? I'll buy a pound of sliced picnic ham from Walmart in a Got Damned minute, no ****s given!

TinyEvel 09-30-2023 12:03 AM

I am amazed at the amount of food items they can create to be warmed and sold on those rolly heat trays. That big QT near the stadium the hot rolly section must be 18 feet long.

scho63 09-30-2023 02:08 AM

QT's bathrooms got a long way to go to catch up to Kohl's.

That's highly debatable. Wawa and Buc-ees are far superior imo

I met Lamar twice when I worked for QT. He was actually pretty funny. Definitely changed what a C-store could be.

Buc-ee’s is great if you can manage to find one as you travel through Texas.

There are 2 in Florida with a third one being built about an hour north of me. Supposedly it's going to be the largest one. As their popularity grows, they'll start popping up everywhere. I'm excited about the one coming up in Ocala since my son and his family are moving there. Their brisket sandwich is phenomenal

Fishpicker 09-30-2023 06:33 AM

QT is awesome. I had a buddy that started working for them in the 90's right after high school. he still works for the company and does pretty well for himself.

they also have reliably clean restrooms

Jewish Rabbi 09-30-2023 06:44 AM

I’m gonna guess the burnout working the register doesn’t give a **** if you pay for your soda at all

The Bunk 09-30-2023 07:42 AM

I have seen people bring containers just short of a five gallon bucket in there for their daily Mountain Dew fix. They will let you dump fountain drinks into anything.

I worked for them in the 80s and made enough (with extra shifts) to buy a house while the wife was finishing her Masters. If you could get in a high volume store and run it right, the monthly bonus check was substantial.

displacedinMN 09-30-2023 07:54 AM

The only issue may be some young kid that says

"Dude, never seen that before, I have to check with my manager."

rfaulk34 09-30-2023 08:28 AM

This is why i never go to rap concerts with a Squart.

wazu 09-30-2023 08:35 AM

Ah, my beloved Squart. No doubt my mom threw it away while I was at college. Good luck, Bob. I'll bet they are fine with it.

17 year old kids routinely case race and they do nothing. I think you'll be ok.

KCJake 09-30-2023 09:24 AM

Haven't seen that style since I was 10 years old. I'd sport it

I would suspect that back in the day this particular promotion was formally ended, and that promotion cancellation would apply to all squarts / debbie downer

Buc-ees is great, but not a convince store. No one has ever ‘just run in real quick’ to a Buc-ees. Many have tried, but the siren song of “Fesh brisket on the board”, or an unexpected need for a deer feeder or Soda refill, or wine, or fishing pole, or pulled pork sandwich, or picture with Buc-ee, or, or, or….,

EPodolak 09-30-2023 02:23 PM

More QTs around here than anything. Except maybe dispensaries. And churches.

Looking forward to OP's video.

I bet they will honor it. Same with Silver Dollar City and when we bring in the old unlimited drink cups. No charge from the 90s to 00s.

I lived in Texas back in the 70's so I missed Buc-ee's. Back then it was 7/11 and then just a bunch of oddball gas stations everywhere. I do have a fondness for 7/11 even now. Too bad though because it looks great. We have big truck stop stores out here but not like that.

I have Wawa and Sheetz in my area. Both are awesome though I give a slight nod to Sheetz as they're always cleaner. We have 7-11's too but they're garbage in comparison.

Part of the appeal of wawa for me is their cleanliness. That and they have good breakfast sandwiches

teedubya 10-01-2023 11:23 AM

I can't even imagine how bad that SQUART bottle smells of old chemicals and plastic. LOL. I'm not sure the drink would even taste good enough for $0.49 heh
