Kansas City Chiefs Waive John Ross, WR Seeking Return to NFL
Kansas City is parting ways with its formerly retired wide receiver as he seeks a new opportunity.
JORDAN FOOTE16 HOURS AGO In this story: Kansas City Chiefs KANSAS CITY CHIEFS START CONVERSATION The other Ross...................... The Kansas City Chiefs made a transaction at the wide receiver position on Monday, but it wasn't one that anyone could have anticipated. Instead of a player entering the fold, one is officially parting ways with the franchise. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, as well as numerous other reports, Kansas City waived wideout John Ross from the reserve/retired list. The #Chiefs waived WR John Ross from the reserve/retired list today. The ninth overall pick in the 2017 Draft wants to make a return to the league and will look for an opportunity on a roster or practice squad. Despite being a vested veteran, Ross is subject to the waiver priority order in the aftermath of leaving Kansas City because it's past the trade deadline. Ross originally signed a reserve/future deal with the Chiefs in January. Sticking with the team for most of the offseason program and into the beginning of training camp, it was revealed that he was placed on the reserve/retired list on July 26. Just over four months since his retirement, it appears that Ross is seeking a chance to latch back on with a team and continue his professional career. In 37 career regular-season games of action, Ross has hauled in 62 passes on 143 targets for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns. His most successful seasons came back in 2018 and 2019, when he scored a combined 10 touchdowns and had 716 receiving yards as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. In addition to his time with the Chiefs, Ross played in 10 games for the New York Giants back in 2021. He's known for his blazing 4.22-second 40-yard dash time at the NFL Scouting Combine back in 2017, and he'll now look to bring that speed to a franchise on either a practice squad or active roster basis. Bring him in for a look?

A WR being waived from the Chiefs is like being underdressed at Walmart.
|
Remember when he retired and we all took it as a positive sign that our WR room was so stacked that this guy felt he couldn't even compete?
Ah, the halcyon days of training camp. |
All I saw was J and Ross. Figured the posts were going to be going ape shit.
I didn't even realize that we still had John Ross under contract. |
Yeah, wrong Ross in my mind as well. Don't give a shit about the fastest guy at the combine ever who never played a snap for us.
|
Hey John, hate to break it to you but if you can't beat out the Chiefs receivers I don't think you're gonna have much luck elsewhere.
|
We need another J Ross to compete as a WR. How about Good Ol' Jim Ross? Heard he can run like a scalded dog.
|
Y'all keep on f'n doubting John Ross!
|
Can he catch a pass?
|
This guy was a #9 overall draft pick

I’ll bet Andy looked at that 40 time like he looks at a cheeseburger and a side of curly fries

Being the guy picked before Mahomes isn't a job I'd want either
|
Welp if you need evidence that a fast 40 time rarely translates to NFL relevance:

Ross (9th pick) & Peters (18th pick)…. Two former first round draft picks released about 24 hours apart in November. NOVEMBER. Guessing that’s never happened before.
|
Always remember that the Bengals took him one pick before KC took Mahomes. So thankful the Bengals blew that pick.

We *ALL*?!?!?! You are speaking for the other personalities you share a body/mind with but certainly not for CP, right? I'm fairly certain the majority of the board didn't for a singular minute believe that our WR room was stacked... and certainly not because a guy whose peak year was 506 yards decided to retire. I gotta think most of us knew our WR room was dogshit regardless of what Ross did/does. |
